  • Roborock Exceeds Expectations!
We honestly had low expectations going into the smart vacuum realm. We felt buying something with alleged power and decent reviews at a good price was the way to go. Thus, we landed with the Roborock. We aren’t disappointed in the Roborock Q7. As a matter of fact, this device far exceeds our expectations. The build quality is solid, and it has a nice look as well. The performance really shines. The initial mapping was cool since we never saw this type of thing before. The Roborock went everywhere, including underneath beds. The mapping took over 90 minutes. The map is concise and really paints a detailed layout. The individual rooms are clearly delineated with different colors. The app is thin without fluff. It gives me what I need without me getting too far into the weeds. I was quickly setting zones and separate vacuum and mopping sessions. The app is WYSIWYG. You get pretty much all you need to see. Brass tacks: The vacuuming is better than expected. We have all tile with some throw rugs. This picks up very well on both surfaces. Please note: you have to use a conventional vacuum to get behind doors and hard to reach places the Roborock couldn’t access. This was to be expected. Next, the mop function did far better than expected. Our expectations were very low, but the device ran well and we had minimal areas to spot clean the tougher stains. Like any other robot vacuum this unit did hang up a couple of times and I had to rescue it. The vac started back to the job without issue. The app notifies you when it’s hung. I had to remediate a couple of areas. We have a large 3 door sliding glass door and one of the tracks for the doors is wide and deep. The vacuum is so thorough it tried to clean that area and got hung up. A piece of PVC in the track cured the problem. Overall I can’t recommend this product enough. ... show more

  • The perfect robot vacuum cleaner, but mopping feels like a gimmick.
This really is an outstanding robot vacuum cleaner. The LIDAR makes it so much more capable than “dumb” robot vacuum cleaners that just bounce around each room like a puck on an air hockey table until their battery wears out. The companion app is also very good. After you run the first cleaning cycle, the app will show a detailed floor plan of your home. You can then divide this map into rooms and add no-go/no-mop zones. I have an area rug in my living room, and it perfectly avoids it while in mopping mode. However, mopping mode does feel like a tacked-on gimmick to justify the expensive price tag. I had a couple of minor spots where a couple drops of a drink had spilled and the stickiness picked up some dirt over a couple of days. Typical good excuse to mop. So I attached the mop according to the instructions and tried it out, and it had literally zero affect on the spots, even after going into the app and telling it specifically to spot-mop the location. A damp paper towel made short work of the spots the robot failed to pick up, and really emphasized yo me how useless the mopping feature is. BUT, despite that, the vacuuming capability is about as good as I could possibly imagine it getting. I love how the ability to automatically dump the dirt into the docking station. With my old dumb robot vacuum cleaner, I had to dump the dirt bin after every run. I’m looking forward to not having to think about it again for months. Also, gratuitous photo attached to illustrate just how far off the size is when viewed through Amazon’s AR feature. I assume this is the fault of the manufacturer, but AR mode shows it about half the size that it should be. ... show more

  • Disappointed after a common start!
The media could not be loaded. I really wanted to like this robot vacuum. For the first couple of months, it worked well and did what it was supposed to do. After that, things went downhill fast. The suction dropped noticeably, and it started leaving debris all over the floor. It also began making a lot of noise without picking anything up. The brush holder eventually cracked, which makes no sense considering I live in a one-story flat with smooth flooring. The most it ever had to handle was transitioning to carpet. All the parts on this vacuum are original, so there’s no reason something like that should fail on a $300 machine. On top of that, the robot sometimes glitches and goes into areas I clearly restricted on the app. I’m not sure if this is a software issue or something on my end, but it definitely shouldn’t behave like that. I love the idea of a robot vacuum, but this experience hasn’t been great, especially with customer support. The vacuum feels like it was made with low-quality materials for the price, and being offered a discount on a replacement felt frustrating. I don’t understand why I’d want to buy another one after dealing with these issues. Overall, this just hasn’t been worth the cost. ... show more
