I'm taking an old wooden play structure apart and have tried to use these extractors on multiple types of rusted and/or old fasteners. I have had success with nut extraction on hex head bolts. I have had failures on carriage bolts (curse words ensue) and with most old screws of various sizes and lengths. Nut removal on a carriage bolt just results in the bolt spinning and spinning. I hate them so much. I tried to drill into the carriage head, but this extractor can't make a dent in those. I've also largely had failures on screws as they tend to be either rusted into the wood or so rusted that the heads break off and leave the body of the screw in the wood. I think there are better applications for this extractor set than what I'm trying to do, so I'm giving them 4 stars. It's possible that I'm being too generous, but I really don't think that the extractor can be held accountable to decade old screws that are sometimes more rust than metal. It would be nice if this set could help with the carriage bolts, but I just use a Sawzall to cut them in half and then hammer them out. Looking at other sets of this kind, it seems to be fairly priced. There definitely isn't one set out there that is all 5 stars. I don't have any major complaints about the carrying case, and the tools themselves seem very sturdy and well-made. There are clear instructions included, so that is helpful too. Don't buy this set thinking it's automatic win, but for the right application this could occasionally save the day.

I dont often write reviews but this set is worth my time to review. Highly recommend. I'm an older mechanic/ schooled & degreed mechanical engineer. This was a perfect set for a broken spark plug, where the porcelain was all gone and only the steel tube of spark plug threads remained. The hex flange where the socket inserted prevented the tool from dropping down inside the cylinder and with so many to chose from it was easy to get the perfect fit. I also like the shorter reverse thread section as compared to many other styles of tapered ez-outs. The reduced length helps prevent bottoming out prior to thread engagement in situations where there is a maximum insertion depth
