  • Perfect for small pet litter box!
I have been using this as a litter box substrate for my 8 guinea pigs for about 4 months. This hemp hurd is low dust, hypoallergenic (unlike most wood shavings), EXTREMELY ABSORBENT, and has absolutely eliminated odor. I was really happy with kiln dried aspen prior to trying this product, but am 100% converted to hemp hurd. This would work very well for a chicken yard and as a soft surface for rabbit enclosures. ... show more

  • Hemp bedding
Game-Changer for My Coop I don’t usually leave reviews, but I had to share how impressed I am with RentACoop’s Extra-Soft Hemp Bedding. I’ve tried everything—pine shavings, straw, paper-based bedding—but nothing compares to this in terms of cleanliness, softness, and odor control. What I love: ✅ Super Absorbent – This stuff soaks up moisture incredibly well. I clean my coop far less often now, and there’s no soggy mess like with some other bedding types. ✅ Virtually Dust-Free – My chickens and bunnies have super sensitive respiratory systems, and I’ve noticed way less sneezing and dust in the air since switching. Huge win! ✅ Odor Control – I can’t believe how well this neutralizes smells. Even on hot days, there’s no noticeable odor when I open the coop or pet enclosures. ✅ Soft but Durable – It’s fluffy enough for nesting boxes (my hens LOVE it), yet it doesn’t compact or mat down quickly. Even my guinea pigs seem more comfortable. ✅ Multi-Purpose – I’ve used this same bag for my chickens, rabbit, and even as a base for my daughter’s hamster cage. One product, multiple uses = less clutter and more value. Bonus: It’s compostable and eco-friendly, which makes me feel better about using it in bulk. And speaking of bulk—300L sounds like a lot (because it is), but it compresses well and stores neatly in my garage. If you're on the fence: Just get it. It may seem a bit pricier up front than traditional bedding, but it lasts longer and performs WAY better. My coop and small pet cages have never been cleaner or fresher. The only down fall when cleaning you need to were a mask but still great ... show more

  • Expensive but worth it.
This is my favorite chicken bedding. It keeps everything dry and keeps odors down. It’s expensive, but worth it!

  • Duck-Keeper’s Dream Bedding – Finally Solved Our Mess & Odor Issues!
After struggling with soggy wood shavings in our duck coop, this hemp bedding has been revolutionary. The difference is night and day: ✔ Super absorbent – No more standing water (ducks can’t turn it into soup!) ✔ Odor control – Cut our coop smell by at least 70% ✔ Low dust – Doesn’t irritate human or bird lungs like pine shavings ✔ Surprisingly soft – Our ducks nestle right in Bonus Perks: • Lasts 2x longer than aspen shavings • Composts beautifully • Multi-species safe (we use extras in rabbit hutches too) Pro Tip: Layer 3-4” deep in high-traffic areas for best results. Verdict: 5/5 – Worth every penny for waterfowl owners. Our coop stays drier, cleaner, and fresher between changes. ... show more

  • Great Product + Price
I was using another well known brand and had no complaints, other then pricing. This is about $13 cheaper and is the same size. $13 isn't much savings but when you calculate that I go through about 6 of these a year... that's $78 in savings. If you've not used hemp and the deep liter method you have to try it. It works amazing. It helps keep the chickens warm in the winter because it decomposes naturally. You never have to clean it out except once a year and then straight into the compost bin (and it's mostly composted by then). You just add a little bit every month or two (I throw it on top and then rake it in a bit). It allows the chicken droppings to decompose naturally which is great for your garden and easier on maintenance. It also keeps the smell down a lot since it's naturally decomposing. And as I said in the winter it'll add a LITTLE heat (not a lot) from the decomposing method AND since you have a thick layer that helps keep the cold from coming up from the bottom of your coop. So it's great all around. ... show more

  • Absorbent, odorless and dustless
This is the best bedding bar none. We ran out and had to quickly buy some locally, the local bedding doesn’t even compare. This is the right size for chicks to scratch, doesn’t kick up dust, and we don’t have to change it daily because it’s more absorbent. I’m very happy with this bedding. My daughter went online and ordered two more because it’s that good. You won’t be disappointed. It holds the moisture, is easy to use and the chicks prefer it. ... show more

  • Perfect .....EXCEPT for the price
These bedding is exactly as promised. I use a kitty litter scooper to clean our nesting boxes and it's very easy. The size of the individual pieces slips right through my scoop, leaving only the poo from my chickens. It's very soft on their feet, doesn't poke like straw does, and creates significantly LESS dust in the coop. My ONLY complaint is the price as it's quite a bit more expensive when compared to pine flakes and/or shavings. ... show more

  • Perfect Bedding for a Clean, Odor-Free Coop!
As a first-time chicken owner, I wanted to ensure my coop was as clean and comfortable as possible for my flock, and this premium hemp bedding has met my expectations so far! The first thing I noticed was how absorbent it is—moisture is not an issue, and odors are practically nonexistent. Even after a few weeks of use, the coop stays fresh with the deep litter method, which makes my chores much easier to manage in winter. The quality is excellent. I love that it’s eco-friendly, pesticide-free, and produces minimal dust. It feels good knowing I’m providing a safe, healthy environment for my chickens while also choosing a sustainable product that will eventually make great compost for my garden. Yes, it’s a bit pricier than some alternatives, but the longevity more than makes up for it. A little goes a long way, and I can tell this bale will last me for quite some time. Overall, I’m thrilled with this purchase and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a superior bedding solution. ... show more
