    • Top choice out of five highly rated baby gates!

Let me simply start off by saying that I wanted the best of the best when it came time to buy our first baby gate for our son, and so, I did the research! After reading numerous reviews on the pros and cons of what felt like hundreds of baby gates I finally settled on my top five! My idea was to buy them all, inspect in person the quality and safety of each gate and then make my decision accordingly. The top 5 options were: 1. Regalo Easy Step Arched Décor Walk Thru Baby Gate (this one!) 2. Summer Infant Multi-Use Decorative Extra Tall Walk-Thru Gate 3. Regalo Easy-Open Wide Baby Gate 4. Evenflo Soft and Wide Gate 5. Regalo Super Wide Adjustable Gate and Play Yard I wanted to make sure to take multiple things into account such as security, safety, various wall attachments and extensions (if any), pressure mounted baby gates versus free standing, the ability for my little one to see me, the ease and functionality of the gate and the ability for it to work safely and securely with my staircase. I did decide to get a longer baby gate to get a wide variety of options as well! Overall, my experience can tell you that this is definitely one of my favorite baby gates, hands down - so if you want to ignore the rest, go ahead and do so and just buy this gate already!! If not, keep reading :). (Each baby gate has its own blurb so you can always skip the rest and just read that too!) The Summer Infant Multi-Use Decorative Extra Tall Walk-Thru Gate was very pretty in person, a lovely bronze color and had a beautiful arch. It installs easy, comes with all necessary pieces to pressure mount or screw it in to your wall etc. This baby gate felt very safe initially. Only downfall, the mechanism at the bottom that prevents the baby gate from swinging in the wrong direction broke off easily and not long after purchasing it! Also, my roommates felt it was one of the most difficult to open and because of the tension from what I can only assume is a self closing feature, it seemed somewhat dangerous when it quickly swung back at us with intense pressure! After using this one for months I would definitely say it was my least favorite and came in the #5 spot. The Regalo Easy-Open Wide Baby Gate was a solid, sturdy and well built baby gate that again came with every imaginable piece to safely install it depending on your needs. I felt as though it lasted a decently long time before the handle mechanism broke - even after this is still worked just with it's quirks. This was a simple white baby gate and did a great job but I'd rate it #4. The Evenflo Soft and Wide Gate in Emery was the perfect median of all of the baby gates. It adjusts to fit a large variety of spaces easily and felt impressively secure considering this bonus feature. (Most baby gates are not wide enough for certain doorways hence the extender bars which can sometimes make them too wide so this was an awesome choice for fitting those pain in the butt spaces!) I really enjoyed that my son could see me through this gate and I ended up using it to separate his play area from our living room. This one gets my #3 rating! The Regalo Super Wide Adjustable Gate and Play Yard is simply a beast of a baby gate. This thing is awesome!!! It self stands and can be configured in so many ways and is so sturdy and secure. I could go on and on - I LOVE this baby gate. We ended up using this baby gate to keep our little dude away from the fire place. Literally not one negative about it - but keep in mind, my search for a baby gate was for the top of the staircase, which is why this one came in the #2 spot! The Regalo Easy Step Arched Décor Walk Thru Baby Gate (this one!) trumped all and came in first place for me! (Although I did enjoy various features of the other gates for different purposes!) This gate is extremely well made, so sturdy and safe, connected beautifully to my wall and provided my little guy with the safest option for the tip of our stairs! My husband couldn't push this thing down if he tried! It's THAT secure. (That being said we did purchase stair rail adapters that worked the absolute best with this gate! Also highly recommend!) This gate is both functional, easy to use, absolutely beautiful and has withstood the test of a now 2 and 4 year old in addition to multiple roommates when others continued to break. This thing is awesome - stop your research and just buy it!!! ... show more

    • Great choice for a pet gate
Color: Black - 30-35"w X 36"h
I have had dogs for years and my wife owned a groom shop so I have experience with trying to keep dogs in or out. This gate does the job. It was very easy to assemble and install (but keep in mind that I have dealt with pet gates for years). Based on how its constructed, its pretty much fool proof when putting it inside the door frame. It has a "stopper" tab on both sides of the gate so you can install it to swing in either direction which I thought was pretty smart. If I could give it a 4 1/2 stars, thats probably where it truly ranks for me because of 2 things. The handle/locking mechanism is a bit wonky. "Unlocking" the gate using the top handle mechanism takes some dexterity and concentration. There are two different things that have to be done at the same time to get the gate lock to open - one is like a trigger on the underside of the handle and the other is a sliding piece on the top. It doesnt take two hands to open, but it isnt all that easy with just one hand if you are not in the right position - its just weird and a bit of a pain. The second thing is the height. I bought the 36 inch gate which is what I needed, but that puts the gate almost exactly at the height of the door handle. The door still closes but I have to somewhat work it closed to get the handle to clear the gate and then work it back to open the door. If door handles are all at a standard height in homes, this could be an issue for some if they want to close the door. Overall, I do love the gate, its exactly what I needed. It looks great, its sturdy, and even better, the dog can now see down the hallway. I feel that it safely closes and secures so he doesnt have the run of the house if I'm gone. For the price, I havent found anything better and highly recommend! ... show more

    • much better than expected
Color: Black Wooden - 30-41.5"w X 30"h
This is exactly what we needed to segregate foster dogs from the general population until they settle in. Based on the reviews, i had several concerns. all of which have been dispelled. Concern 1: the gate is too small. i have the same concern when i put it together. it really looks like it won't work. i had ignored the giant yellow alert sign on the gate that i said.. don't worry about the gate size; trust us. and proceeded to rant. but they are right. once you install it, everything just works Concern 2: can't install due to having a baseboard. Because the top and bottom have separate mounting screws, the gate installed easily at different depths. The only way this wouldn't work is if your opening is s-under 30" (not including the baseboard). Concern 3: cheap looking. Someone complained about the middle not being real wood. i was worried it was plastic or something shoddy. it looks really nice. Concern 4: won't stand up to big excited dogs. I avoid pressure gates because the dogs can knock them over. This gate when screwed in tight has help thus far. But it also comes with screw in receptacles that the pressure cups sit in. this adds an extra level of security. i plan to install them today as a new dog is coming tomorrow. I will update with how that goes Concern #4: My husband hates the gates, because they make it hard to move his amps and other musical equipment. This causes us to have to uninstall reinstall gates whenever we get a new foster. This deign makes it easy to remove the gate when needed Concern #5: Sturdiness.. there's "sturdy enough for a toddler" then there's sturdy enough for a pack of labrador mixes. some gates just can't meet our needs. this gate is a steep frame - solid, and it can't be chewed up by a bored, teething puppy I just ordered 3 more of these gates. I love them 9/24/19: update. the gate held when the new dog was being segregated. So much so that we decided to take one of them down. And thats when we ran int trouble. Although the directions clearly state to make sure the gate was carefully aligned, i only eye-balled it. Then when I tried to remove the gate, I had a bear of a time removed it. I couldn't get the bottom "sockets" out of the cup. Advice, don't just eyeball it... or else, don't use the cup/socket option ... show more

    • Great Product and Reasonably Priced
Color: Black With Cherry Wood - 30-41.5"w X 37"h
Looks like wrought iron (black powder coated) for a fraction of the price. Super easy to install, and with the extra two extenders (included) it fit my doorway and hallway very nicely. The pressure mounting works well, sturdy enough that I didn't have to drill into the walls, but the wall caps and screws are included if needed for extra support (only had to use one extender on the two gates I installed, but would recommend hard wall mounting if using both extenders for added stability). As others have noted the opening is a little narrow, but not really an inconvenience (car seat fits through, but barely, also full 10-15 gallon trash bags not a problem). Overall very happy with the quality, costs more than the plastic gates but quality and appearance of this gate are far superior. Have friends who have the plastic gates and I hate them (ugly, and the release mechanisms always stick, so they keep out kids and adults!). The release on this gate is easy to use with one hand while holding Junior, and the gate is high enough that the little guy can't reach it (easy for grown ups, near impossible for toddlers). And I live in Hawaii, so the free shipping with Prime was an added bonus (usually large bulky items like this are not free shipping). Shipping was fast, and the gates (ordered two) were well packed with foam on the corners so it arrived unscathed with no scratches/damage to the gates. Note the wood inserts are darker than they appear in the picture. Would be 5 stars if the gate walk-thru were a bit wider (gap is only about 16", just 2 inches wider and you could fit a car seat through it without having to lift the car seat over the top (hint hint Regalo), other than that love the gate. ... show more

    • Easy to assemble and great latching
Color: Black Wooden - 30-41.5"w X 30"h
One minor quibble and the rest I love. And note, this is new. If the latching becomes problematic over time I will update. I bought two of these and based on my experience I am buying a third to replace a different model from another vendor that has a cranky latch. The packing was great. One box was damaged but everything inside was fine. Reading the instructions makes it seem more complicated, but you simply bolt the two main parts together at the bottom. Install the swinging gate by putting a pin in the bottom and inserting a loose pin into a hole at the top. Now either insert one or both extenders into the side, they just push on. With or without the extenders, insert the adjustment screws, they do not thread in. Place the unit in the area to be gated and start turning the middle plastic knob to force the adjustment screws out longer. Keep turning both sides, top and bottom until snug. Tighten the bottom pretty tight. If there is an uneven molding, you can lift it up a little. Adjust the top screws until the latch tongue is mostly inserted into the opening. That is it. Now peel off the warning sticker that says the gap is intentional. Say a thanks to the company for making the adhesive not too sticky as it peels right off cleanly. Now for the baby warning sticker, I guess they do not want you to remove it, perhaps for liability? I decided though it looks crap, I am leaving it on. It would take too long for me to remove all the adhesive and paper bits. As to the person who in the review mentioned it only opens one way. Nope! There are turnable locks on the bottom of the swinging gate that can stop the door from swinging through either way. If both locks are turned up, the door swings both ways. I find this to be a great feature as on one gate, I want it to swing both ways, the other gate I used one of the locks to limit the travel. So very happy. It feels solid and looks nice in my house. And now the rescue dogs will stay away from certain parts of the home. ... show more

    • Maybe not for small children but perfect for dogs.
Color: Black - 30-35"w X 36"h
I don't know that I would use this to contain children, it holds to the wall and/or newel post by pressure only. However, to block the stairs off to keep the dogs from bothering the cats, and still allowing easy access for people, it is fabulous. It's attractive, too. I'm very happy with it, it is exactly what I wanted. ... show more

    • So Much Parts and Work Involved
Color: Black - 30.5-58"w X 30"h
I’ll start by saying it’s well made. It’s just that there’s so many parts to it, and they aren’t permanent parts. I got it for my deck stairs when the little grandson comes to visit, but you can’t just easily put it up and remove it. You have to put it together and take it apart every time. It’s more labor intensive than I was expecting, and I’m sorry I got it. I suggest getting it only if you plan on it staying in place for a long period of time. There is a bar below the door which can be a trip hazard so try to remember it’s there! ... show more

    • Excellent Safety Gate for Top of Stairs
Color: Black - 30-35"w X 36"h
We purchased this gate specifically to use at the top of our stairs for our baby, and it has exceeded our expectations. The quality is excellent-sturdy, well-built, and very secure once installed. It gives us real peace of mind knowing our child is safely blocked from the stairs. Installation was straightforward, and the included hardware made it easy to mount properly. The gate opens and closes smoothly, and the locking mechanism feels solid and reliable. I also appreciate that it looks nice and blends well with our home instead of looking bulky or industrial. Overall, this is a high-quality safety gate that does exactly what it's supposed to do. I would absolutely recommend it to any parent looking for a safe, dependable option for the top of stairs.
