    • Perfect and affordable for what I needed!
I have a wrap around porch with two large openings. I also have geese that decided the porch was the ideal place to sleep at night and so it was a daily fight to keep the poop off the porch. These are going to work perfectly. I wanted something affordable, something big enough to fit the openings and something that will keep the birds out. These check all the boxes. I got 2 gates for the price of most gates in this side range. Putting them together went pretty fast, it took around an hour to get all my supplies and build the two gates. (The second one took around 15 minutes so if you're handier and more organized than I am, then it shouldn't take you that long) My only real issue was one of them was missing a piece where you join the two sections. It was the smooth piece that you screw another screw into it. I imagine I can find one at home depot, but for the time being I just put a deck screw in it and that fixed it just fine. As for sturdiness, that's kind of up to you and what you're trying to keep out/in. I raised mine a few inches off the floor so that it's even with the rest of the porch railing. That means it's basically free floating on the 4 eye screws. It's going to be fine for the geese, but my goats and great dane puppy are going get past it pretty quickly. (They shouldn't be in that part of the yard so it's on me if they end up breaking it.) I love that it's easy to remove, and that it can swing all the out or just slide it enough for you to get by. This is an extra long baby gate. I have a 60lb pit mix that I want to keep confined in the kitchen when I'm at work. I looked around to find another gate this long without luck - I was skeptical of this gate due to the low price. This gate works perfect for me. My dog respects the gate even though she could easily jump over it or run right through it. Pros: 1) super long, 2) affordable, 3) easy to install, 4) low enough to step over but tall enough to create a barrier (i'm 5' 2") 5) neutral color. Cons: 1) not very sturdy, 2) hassle to lock and unlock the gate, 3) wood looks unfinished Overall, I'm very happy with this well priced, extra-long gate. ... show more

    • Great product for the price
I have to start with my general assessment, great product for the money, and go on from there. There are inherent weaknesses in wood gates that I was aware of before I bought the product knowing that I was going to modify the product to remedy and modify the product for my specific use. The inherent problem that I find in wood gates is the looseness in the sliding design, metal lips which I think have too much clearance with the gate sections (probably to allow for easy opening/closing without binding). This looseness allows a child to push the gate front to back to an alarming degree in my opinion and raises the possibility of the child being able to break the gate. The wider the gate and the more towards maximum the gate is opened, the greater the gate can be moved front to back. This issue can be addressed many ways with varying degrees of success, the simplest of which is to bang down the metal lips so that there is less and less clearance between the wood sections. Less clearance means less front to back movement with a proportionate increase in potential binding when the gate is expanded or closed. This is fine for casual use but we have a wide opening with active toddler twins who act in concert and I fear would easily overpower the gate so I decided to make the gate rigid and fit one specific location to eliminate front to back movement. I first installed the eye screws and installed the gate in the intended location. I then evenly spaced the sections and temporarily clamped them in place. I installed fasteners through the overlapped gate sections close to each end of the overlap. I utilized the supplied long barrel nuts and screws supplied to secure the ends of the two slider sections by drilling through at the start of my overlapped sections and installing the extended fasteners that I had and also used 1" countersunk decking screws when I ran out of the supplied extended fasteners. I then removed the clamps and the result was a fixed strong gate that fits only one location at the expense of expand-ability/collapse-ability. I had previously experienced the problem of excessive front to back movement with the twins pushing on another wood gate and turned their abandoned glee in wildly push/pulling the gate to and from with this fix into one of resigned captivity. Bottom line, great product for the money and even greater raw material to easily make a stronger fixed position gate. ... show more

    • just watch your screws, falling out does happen
well. they do work well, although a set of screws fell out so I had to re drill and replace with screws I have, but other than that, they do their job flawlessly. keeps my dog away from the deck to protect pads, furniture. great value, quick delivery
