This is a quality Irrigation Controller once you get it installed properly. Has intermittent connection to my wireless router issues and was a little difficult to install initially as a result. The software is pretty easy and since my unit is in the garage, I paid a bit more for the outdoor model with ability to close the lid to protect from dirt and moisture. My only complaint with the software is why the programmers chose not to allow you to just hit one icon to run a program manually, as programmed; instead, you must input desire length of time you want the program to run. Since I have six rotating head zones and two spray head zones, the spray head zones should not run as long as the rotating head zones. My older rainbird allowed to hit one button and the entire program would run through each zone as configured. Also tried the Custom Program but you have to put a custom time for each zone which is time consuming. My solution to manually run all zones with the same length of time as the spray head zones when I need it to run manually off-schedule. 7/24/2022 Update: Now that I've been using this Controller for a while I wanted to update my review. I no longer recommend this controller as it's onboard panel is buggy and the software is even more buggy. The wireless interface consistently will not connect and often freezes up and causes the phones wireless connection to turn off. DO NOT BUY THIS CONTROLLER ... show more

My new house came with a Hunter sprinkler system with an X2 controller and I bought the WAND to connect it to WIFI. After 6 weeks of trying to connect (unsuccessfully) to WIFI, I trashed it and bought the Rainbird. It's somewhat pricey, but you get what you pay for. I had the Rainbird installed outside and connected to WIFI in about 45 minutes. It connected to WIFI on the second attempt and has held its connection now for weeks and is always immediately response to wireless commands. I have EERO mesh routers and WIFI signal is strong and I didn't have to turn off the 5G signal to get it to connect. Simply a product that works as advertised. It comes in a heavy duty case to protect from the elements, while some of the other controllers sell protective cases separately.     • Easy to install and set up. Did not need tech support at all. WiFi feature works great.

This was a snap to install. I replaced an older non-WiFi controller with this one. Since the WiFi module alone costs between $80 and $100 retail, this unit with the module already installed is a bargain. This is my second Rainbird controller on my farm, so I already had the app on my phone and had made it up the learning curve. I can understand the complaints regarding the poor visibility of the units display in bright light, but once the time and date are programmed everything else can be set up using the app on your phone from the comfort of your home. I did not have the need for tech support with either of my controllers, so I cannot comment pro or con. BTW, if you are mounting on drywall and need hardware, it is packed together with the batteries. I did not realize this and had to pause my installation to look in my shop for anchors and screws. Not until the final installation stage did I install the batteries as instructed and discovered that there was indeed supplied installation hardware. ... show more

    • Great concept but primitive Wi-Fi implementation

The concept is great. Your system adjusts based on the local weather conditions and the seasons which it downloads to the device. When you are trouble shooting your system, being able to start and stop a part of your system from your phone makes life much easier. The implementation of Wi-Fi is primitive and needs to be updated. It will only work on 2.4 GHz frequencies for Wi-Fi so be sure what your Wi-Fi system is. The Rainbird unit will not work if you have a VPN (Virtual Private Network) in place on your phone and the documentation does not tell you this. I spent 2 hours on the phone with the Rainbird helpline trying to get the system set. The final call with a different person had me go through my phone settings and turn off VPN then the system worked. My VPN was part of Norton Security so be aware. ... show more
