Recently my eight year old air cleaner stopped working. So I when decided to look for a replacement I looked at several brands. Since I had recently purchased a Pure Humidifier and liked it a lot since it didn't make any mess, was silent and worked great I decided to look at their air cleaner which I had remembered from seeing on their product page when I registered my humidifier. In most regards, the Pure air cleaner was identical to my old one in all important aspects: HEPA filter, charcoal filter, dust filter, catalytic filter and UV light. Pure added an ion generator, greater CFM air flow and Energy star Rating for about 60 percent of the cost of my old air cleaner and added a Five-year warranty. The replacement filters are a lot less expensive as well and easier to change. All in all, made it an easy decision to switch. Controls are simple and easy to use. Just like my old one, has an auto-mode plus a timer mode for people who don't want to run it all the time. Just like my humidifier, very quiet. Hard to go wrong with this choice if you are looking for an air cleaner. I didn't even mention that it looks a lot better than my old one which was the size of R2D2 from Star Wars, lol. ... show more

This does not have the carbon built into the filter like the ORIGINAL filter did. It's just a filter as far as I can see. But it looks like the filter will catch dust and pollen - that's all I care about. The black mesh hair catcher thing has some spackling of black stuff... I guess that's carbon that's been spray glued to the mesh? The mesh thing also doesn't cover the entire filter area... There's like 1.5 inch gap on the top and bottom and half and inch on the left and right. ... show more
