This is just like all of the other ceramic ring filter media on Amazon and in the fish shops. It is very porous and has a lot of surface area for beneficial bacteria to grow. It comes in a mesh bag that you can drop directly into your tank, sump, canister filter or a large hang on back filter.

    • Good size for multiple applications
I like this size of bio ring because it fits well for several different filter types that I have. I used this in a little hang on back mini canister and they seem to be doing well. They were easy to rinse and low dust and they weren’t all broken up so I’m happy with them.

This filter media works really great. I added most of it to my two aquariums to refresh the filters a bit. There was no spikes in the water quality which was great. I also kept a handful out for when I clip my stem plants back. I use they add little weights around them so I can use the trimmings to replant. ... show more

these ceramic rings are great at helping cycle the tank and developing beneficial bacteria colonies to keep the nitrite and nitrate levels down. the micro pores and the shape of the ring makes it easy and flexible in usage. the 1lb bag is plenty for a ~50gal tank

Small so it's super good for my mini HOB filter. I have media rings from the other brands but it were all big so I could only use some of it in my HOB. This product here solves my problem.
