I purchased my first home and quickly the gold doorknobs began to wear on my soul. I was hesitant to make a commitment to 10 but I’m glad I pulled the trigger on these. My tips for installing! -The latch included with this knobs will need to be cut out in most cases. The latch is the part that moves in and out as you twist the knob. If you do not create an indent in the door for this latch, you will likely leave some scrapes on your nice new striker plate. I used a razor knife to do this and it’s was very quick and easy. You’re basically cutting out a 3/4”x2.5” rectangle for the latch to become flush with the door. -When putting the knob together through the door, ensure that the lock slides into its spot. If the lock does not slide into its spot you will not be able to lock the door and in most cases the knob will get stuck in a half way open position. The way I did this was by turning the lock side knob clockwise until I felt it drop into place. Give that knob a couple test turns to confirm that everything is seated properly. - The black paint is pretty durable for an affordable set of knobs, however. Be careful when tightening the 2 screws. I got impatient and went a little wild with my drill. I now have a knob with a small scratched off section of paint due to my negligence. Been 2 months and the knobs have held up great. I have 3 young kids so that is saying something. On a majority of the doors I installed these on, the door now closes better than it ever has. Take this time to make those small adjustments. If you install one of these improperly and you are having to yank the door, you are going to put unnecessary wear on the knob, latch and striker plate. I bought these some time ago and have been waiting to see how they hold up. We have had them about 6 months now. I have replaced every knob in my house which amounts to about 10 and I have had an issue with only 1 coming apart. Its in the kids bathroom and when my son pulled the door closed the knob came off in his hand. Its simple to put back together but just a pain to have to do it. The locking mechanism feels a little tougher to turn than i would like. The weight of the doorknob itself is very light and almost feels cheap. However, unlike the Kwikset privacy knobs i am replacing, these are all metal construction. I expect they will last longer since there are no plastic bits to break. They turn smoothly every time and the brass looks quite nice. If i could change one thing I would make the neck a little smaller because my door sign doesn't hang off as easily anymore.
