The media could not be loaded. These pickleballs are easy to see when it gets dark, extending play time and enjoying the slightly different experience of night time play. They play well and not a noticeable difference from other pickleballs. Be very careful to not insert the battery too far into the plug. Insert to the line or slightly beyond the line on the battery and carefully insert the plug into the led hole and ensure the threads are lined up perfectly before carefully and slowly screwing in until the light is on and the plug bottoms out just below the surface. If the battery is inserted too far into the plug, contact will not occur and damage to the plug slot may occur as the plug is attempted to be screwed in to make contact. The soft plastic is easily deformed if care is not taken. Just unscrew so contact is not made when not in use to save battery life. That said, they are very fun to play with when it gets dark, as they are easily seen. Just take care with the installation of battery/plug and you’ll have an enjoyable experience.

This is my second purchase. This review explains. The first set, with balls preloaded with LED batteries, was spectacular; we loaned out spares in the early morning and inspired others to buy them (Seriously, I should get a cut.). This second set was different in that the balls were not preloaded with LED batteries; instead, batteries were provided separately in the package. I encountered a problem only because this separate battery package had apparently been opened by a previous consumer who had inserted a battery into a ball; said battery was dead. I got 4 balls, one dead. This made me cranky. Fast forward: I complained via an Amazon review, and PickleStar immediately offered a reimbursement. A great thing. So I changed my review of my own free will. If you want to dink in the dark (our group's name is Early Bird Dinkers), these balls are for you. They don't play exactly like outdoor balls, but, on their own, they create a great deal of fun and allow those of us who go early to grab a court an opportunity to dink in the dark. I will buy them again.

Overall, these light-up pickle balls are good with only some minor caveats. The whole point is to allow the fun to continue even into the night! I live near a pair of tennis/pickleball courts that are almost always occupied during the afternoon and evening hours. The lights are off at 9 P.M. every night at which point the courts become available to use. This is where these light-up pickle balls come in! First the good: - easy to see at night - decent weight and bounce that will not throw you off from standard pickle balls - long battery life + a good amount of included batteries if you only use one ball at a time The not so great: - proprietary battery design that needs to be screwed into the ball with an included tool. - susceptible to permanent damage due to overtightening of the battery which will cause the electrical contacts to bend and cause the ball not to light up anymore - batteries can only be sourced from the original manufacturer With all that in mind, it is still a good product and I've gotten my money's worth of enjoyment out of them.

The bounce seems identical to that of a traditional ball, using an unscientific 6-foot drop test. The little battery is easy to install. I remove it completely after playing to avoid unintentional activation even when the battery has been mostly unscrewed. Nice bright light. Durability seems fine, but time will tell.

The small part on the inside of the ball which the light bulbs screw into breaks loose and falls into the middle of the ball while playing. The small part which holds the light bulb on the inside of the ball is only attached to the ball by four tiny contact points which break when you play. First the light will start to hang sideways when you break some but not all of the four points that it connects to the inside of the ball. Then all four break and the part holding the light falls into the middle of the ball and bounces around inside the ball. I opened a new four pack of these balls with my friends last Monday evening. We played less than a game before the light bulb holder with the light bulb was broken from the ball and loosely bouncing around inside of the ball instead of still being attached to the inside of the ball. Then we tried another ball which also broke. I left that night and my friends were playing with a ball that had not broken yet and I took my last unbroken, unused ball home with me. These balls are cheap. The tiny part which holds the light bulb breaks off of the inside wall of the ball. I've attached a photo of a broken off piece from the inside of one of the balls. You can see the four tiny parts which broke off from the inside of the ball. I cut the ball open to retrieve this little broken off piece.

Have now played with these several times. They're more of a novelty, play with them for fun but not competitively as they are off balance and bounce funny. Also, 2 of the three lights didn't work.

These do bounce much better than gen 1 but 4 balls barely lasted a week. The battery/bulb literally was dim after an hour. They all died so fast, waste of money. I’ll take the gen 1 balls with less bounce because the lights in those actually last for more than a night. One ball had the bulb actually get stuck inside so we had to just let that one die out and on another ball the part that holds the bulb inside broke so then the bulb was stuck inside of ball and flying all around. obviously messed up the weight distribution and made it unplayable. Really wish these were better quality and/or longer lasting because they do bounce great and seem better designed than gen 1
