abunda_amazon_reviews I used this Air Fryer for the first time to fry breaded Cod fillets. Here's how I did it and what I will do differently next time. I cut three (3) very large Cod fillets into 12 pieces and fried in batches of four (4). I breaded them in Louisiana Cajun Fish Fry. Point to note - I use this same breading in my deep fryer and noticed that when fried in this Air Fryer the coating retained ALL of its zing - VERY spicy - I guess because it wasn't being doused in the fryer oil. Next time I will use 50% Cajun and 50% regular breading to cut the zing! I placed the pieces (4 at a time) in the Air Fryer and sprayed with olive oil to coat them. I used the "fish" preset and set the timer to 12 mins for the thicker pieces and 10 mins for the rest. I paused the cooking halfway through, turned the fish with a spatula and then sprayed again with the olive oil to coat. I pushed the control button to resume and finish the cooking cycle. The fish came out very well with a nice crisp to them. Next time to help retain that crispiness I will cool them on a cooling rack versus putting them on a plate with paper towel (forgot I had so much less oil to worry about it - the paper towel was not necessary!) The fish was moist and delicious. My family and I were VERY impressed. Clean up was a breeze. I waited for the Air Fryer to cool, wiped the bottom plate to remove the crumbs and then placed all basket components in the dishwasher. EASY! It was wonderful not to have to drain fryer oil and dispose of it! We have a 2-person household, but the XXL interior allows us to cook for 2 without having to cook in batches. I am glad I stuck with the "traditional" basket air fryer style instead of going with an air fryer oven because the basket airfryer contains the mess, yet is easy to disassemble and clean; to clear out oil accumulating in the fan, I sometimes put a bowl of water in the airfryer to steam clean it. Prior to this purchase, I had acquired a Breville Smart Oven Air to replace a failing Cuisinart toaster oven; I knew from research that messy air fried foods would be a PIA to clean up, especially cleaning effectively and safely without accidentally harming the heating coils. For larger batches of air fried foods (potato wedges!), it is still more convenient to use the Breville. My husband surprised me by fulling endorsing the Philips XXL digital airfryer for 2 reasons: 1) potato wedges, and 2) "fried" fish. Chicken breasts and pork chops fared much better in an airfryer than in a pressure cooker, and air frying is more convenient than combining sous vide with pan searing. But, guess what? Frequently, if our dinner entree from the freezer is a bit scant, we augment our meal by airfrying hot dogs and then airfry the assembled dogs in buns - somehow the dogs taste extra special that way, and the inexpensive buns we buy don't disintegrate before we can polish off the dog.;;Reviewed in the United States on May 20, 2019;;5.0 out of 5 stars;;Worth the splurge!;;Kathy L.;;;Update: My air fryer still performs well, and there are many things I like about it. We’ve made a number of dishes in it. It will smoke if you are frying food that is quite oily (like a big pile of chicken wings), however, I think this is to be expected.
