  • Chicken coop turned Fancy Feral Motel!
We’re using this coop for a FERAL KITTY HOME inside of a barn. It went together very easily and of course is sturdy enough for chickens. However since we’re repurposing it, we would have liked to have seen as lightly wider wood piece under the floor boards so the flooring could be a bit more secure for the weight of young cats. Short of doing that, we just used Gorilla glue along the wood that the floor boards rest on, and it solved the problem just fine. We did air everything out for two or three days to rid of any strong wood or glue scents. For more insulation from cold, we did a few extra things. First, we used extra some extra pieces of flooring with rubber backing that we happened to have, over the top of the coop wood. This took out any floor draft between the slats. Then to be sure it was insulated even a bit more, we used a roll of inexpensive rubbery shelf paper (like you use for open wire shelving in a garage.) Next, we had an mini-crib foam pad we weren’t using—fit perfectly! We covered that with super thin carpet roll (used for shelving) and cut it with scissors to just larger than the mattress and used some duct tape to keep it in place. Looks awesome and is a nice place for a cat to lie down on in the summer! But to be snuggly in winter cold, we added some large shoe boxes with body-heat reflective Sherpa type blankets (Amazon) and a (Walmart) type Sherpa throw tossed over it and around the boxes. This should be plenty, washable, and especially protected inside the barn, to keep any cats warm, while giving the family room to have space of their own. The little side box area is nice because we removed the divider so it’s like a den. If it seems they’re still not warm enough in very bad cold I have a heating pad made specifically for cats/ dogs with chew proof cord and cover, and an auto turn-off if it should somehow get too warm or spike. But honestly, I’m pretty sure we won’t need it. Having the two entries is nice in case they feel trapped, but this is one family of ferals so they are not at odds with other cats or animals or territory. Having just one entry is probably ok. We’re using the one on the end so it stays warmer everywhere else. Another idea we had to make it completely free if we had needed to, was to glue those 3” free samples of flooring and carpet (you get at DIY stores) on the floors and walls. But we happened to have almost everything so it worked out. I wish they’d just come inside, but since they’re afraid to, this is the best idea I could think of to make winter warm. ... show more

  • Great coop!
Great size and not horrible to build. There were a few spots I had to drill in to get the screws to go through completely but chicks are happy and feels sturdy.e

  • Love this!
Color: Grey
This is a great purchase! For the price you can’t beat it! I’m not sure if it’s real wood or not but right out of the box, it smelled like cedar and feels like real wood. It has 8 simple steps to assemble, maybe took us 30 minutes. We obviously painted ours and coated it with a UV resistant spray. I love the heart door latch. Perfect for our 3 ducks! I’m very impressed! Only improvement I could say is the hinges, mine have bent after a short amount of use. I plan on replacing them. ... show more

  • Amazing, affordable, well built
Very easy to put together and very sturdy. The price was right and the size is perfect. We took fertilized eggs to my daughters first grade class and since we couldn’t put the chicks with our chickens and roosters we got them their own coop so my daughter and take care of them. I recommend putting it on a ply board of some type and screw it in. I didn’t want rodents burrowing under the dirt. The chicks seem very happy. Another point was shipping was EXTREMELY FAST! Ordered I believe Monday and it came Thursday! ... show more

  • A good starter coop, but has issues
I bought this as a starter coop. At the time, I was not too sure if I would keep with the chickens or not. I have since found I am really enjoying my small flock of 3. The coop is easy to assemble and easy to disassemble to clean. My issues with the coop are that 1). It is flimsy. Every time I move it I fear I will break it. On the other hand, it is light weight enough to move; 2). The nest box does not screw together. It is held in place with dowels (pegs). As such, the nest box has actually fallen apart a couple of times now and I have had to put it back together; 3). I keep the coop inside an old pen I had for my dogs. I use it as the run. The chickens will hop on the roof and perch there, which also means a lot of poop. I did not fasten the roof so I could have access to the interior (it sits in place just fine). Since I have to periodically remove the roof to hose it down, it has taken a beating. It was not built for that type of abuse. My chickens moved into the coop in of May last year. I think it is probably good for another year. Already looking at replacements ... show more

  • The girls are happy with the coop
The coop is wonderful! My 13 yr old grandson assembled it with in a couple of hours. I did supply him with a drill. Using the screwdriver is monotonous. The lift door for gathering eggs needed coverage in the crack because of rain. I recommend this coop for up to 4 chickens. It' sturdy, easy to assemble & the girls (hens) love it. ... show more

  • Don’t waste your money
Spend the $200+ and buy some lumber to do it yourself. Bought for my ducks and while it will be good enough, I had to alter the box. The middle floor panel did not fit and had nothing to fit into so the floor kept falling out of the box. Had to cut a notch in it so it would fit a little better. The nesting box floor has HOLES in the bottom, for what purpose I have no idea but that is a safety concern. Rodents, minks and weasels all would likely be able to enter inside the locked box and prey on your animals. I will need to either fill in those holes somehow or just cut out new flooring all together. I will not put my ducks in it until the box is sturdy and completely sealed. The wood is thin pine and I will be using bails of straw to build up and around it in the winter for insulation. The instructions and labeling were not helpful either but luckily it is easy enough to put together without them. In conclusion: not good quality and too many ways inside for small predators. I’m really disappointed in this especially for the price. ... show more

  • Decent - but keep out of wet weather
Cute little coop. Holds 4-6 of my little Serama chickens nicely. If I had regular size chickens in here, 2 maybe 3 would fit. within the first week it rained and the ramp got wet, the wood swelled and it would not close. Finally was able to close it but it remains closed now. Unusable. We use the swing door for their in and out. It is kept in a covered run so the rest has held up ok, it is a bit on the thin side but with a nice layer of pine shaving the chickens stay cozy inside. I ended up removing the screws on the roof after a while as it is difficult to clean if not. I suggest hinges and a latch for the roof instead of the screw that are included for attaching. ... show more
