I’ve done my own highlights many times. This type of kit doesn’t seem to be very popular anymore, but it works just fine. The main key is to make sure you leave the bleach in long enough, or else you will get orange, brassy highlights. Other commenters said that the hook was very flimsy, and I did notice that this time around. If you have a very small crochet hook, you might try using that, otherwise just be careful. I punched out the holes in the cap with a pencil before I put it on my head, which I think helped. It takes quite a while to prepare your hair with the cap, so make sure you leave time. I usually do as many holes as I can, thought I can’t get the back by myself. Start at the top and work down, and make sure your hair is combed out well. It’s always shocking when you haven’t colored your hair in a long time, so you might think it’s too light at first, but give your brain a few days to adjust to your new look and I think you’ll like it!

I have always had long hair. It costs, an average of $120, to salon color it. I am not great at home hair color. Especially highlighting. BUT, I manage great, with this product. I like the tint of the mixture. I don't use the caps..so the tint helps me visualize.. where I'm at in the process. Its pretty easy..its quick. Never damaged my hair. And, I always love the results. I definitely recommend the product. And, it's soooo affordable. I went from $120 every few months to $7. Can't beat that. A better conditioner, to be included in box, would be nice. But, im pretty happy, overall.

Always used the the frost and glow platinum on my med. to dark brown hair till they discontinued it. Worked great. Tried other brands and they leaked and turn some parts of my hair orange at the scalp. I bought my own metal hooks years ago so havent used the ones included. When pulling my hair thru the holes, I place my other hand on top of the cap and pull out my hair easily. Have to keep the frosting on close to 2 hrs. to get the platinum color but dont mind as I never had any problems of any damage to my hair in years. Will continue to buy.

SUPER HELPFUL INFO!! PLEASE READ! I was super impressed with this bleach kit on my black hair. I chose To do a few highlights beginning from the scalp of my head. I used foil to cover my bleached hair strands. I also brushed a thin coat of bleach on the foil to make sure the bleach saturated the top and back of my hair strands. This makes it so that the bleach on the hair does not dry and you get maximum lift from the bleach. I wish I bought a hair gloss or semi permanent hair dye that did not require mixing as the final step to tone my hair. Instead I used wella 8nw hair color to tone the brass. Super good but wella products are very potent smelling of strong chemicals. FYI I did use garnier 1B1 prior to the revlon frost kit to see if it would lighten my hair a bit. No. It didn't. It just lightened the hair at the top of my head ( gave hot roots) but even then it wasn't super brassy. Like if this review helped!! Also this is a bleach kit, that comes with a bleach powder packet and developer. This is not a hair color dye. You have to add toner or hair color after using this kit. Good luck. I would get this kit again. ****UPDATE***: I added a pic of the top of my hair after using about 3 bleach kits total and dyeing my hair over the bleach. This is the result after 3 months of lightening my hair. I only used the bleach hair cap once, then i freehanded my highlights with a brush and foil. This is in indoor lighting. It looks copper red but I'm in natural lighting it looks more honey/ strawberry blonde after using wella hair color.

I saw the Jessie James Decker video from years ago, she uses no cap, I like the cap cuz it controls where I put the highlights. I have dark blonde hair and use the Honey color for about 35 min. Comes out so natural looking with no harsh bleached white highlights. this is my favorite.

I recently tried this highlighter kit that claimed to be ammonia-free, which was a big plus for me. While the product itself is not organic, it seemed like a good option for my needs. The kit came with a cap and hook for highlighting, but I must say, I was not impressed with the quality of these accessories. The hook broke after just 5 minutes of use, which was incredibly frustrating. I ended up having to purchase a replacement hook from another store. Additionally, the cap provided in the kit was quite basic and did not fit snugly against my scalp. This made it difficult to achieve the precise highlights I was hoping for. On a positive note, the shampoo and conditioner included in the kit were decent and left my hair feeling soft and manageable.

I had used this brand FOREVER to highlight my hair. I had a bad box one time and tried other products for a while. I repurchased this one when it was time to highlight my hair and it did not disappoint. The results were amazing. I have short hair and I do highlights every 8-9 weeks. This last time looked like I literally had them done professionally. I will keep repurchasing this one from now on.
