Description

The compact and lightweight Binocular combines aspherical optical elements and BAK4 Porro prisms to deliver edge-to-edge image sharpness with a 51° apparent angle of view. The optical elements are also fully multi-coated to provide a high transmission of light. With a 8.5x magnification and 21mm objectives, you obtain a notable magnification, insignificant image jitter due to unsteady hands, and a compact form factor. You can easily spot your targets with a wide 6° angular field of view and quickly bring them into focus with a center focus wheel. In addition to observing distant scenes, birds and game, the minimum focus of 20" allows you to study in detail close objects like butterflies, animal footprints, marks or landscape features. To reduce image jitter while observing distant objects or for prolonged observations, you can connect the binocular to a tripod via an integrated 1/4"-20 socket. The binocular also features a 2.5mm exit pupil, a 15mm eye relief, an interpupillary and a diopter adjustments. Unique Uni-body design enhances durability by locking objective lenses in a single housing and synchronizing the eyepiece movement The binocular is very compact, lightweight, and features a single piece frame that houses objectives, which allows for a synchronized interpupillary adjustment. To accommodate eye glasses wearers, the binocular offers twist-up rubber eyecups. Also included are a carrying case, a neck strap, and eyepiece covers.

Style: Papilio II 8.5x21
These binoculars have made my walks take way longer. I got them because I was interested in looking at bugs and plants and other small things with the extremely close focusing distance. What I didn't expect was for it to not only do that extremely well (like seriously I have never seen tiny things in so much detail it's amazing) but to also kind of replace my regular birding nocs. Now let me be clear, these aren't going to do much for anything further than 50 yards maybe, but how light they are and easy to use with the single smooth focusing wheel, you can easily use these entirely single handed!(It's surprisingly good for casual backyard birding with a beer in hand, you can easily focus on a bird in a tree and effortlessly change focus to a bird that just landed on a feeder 4 feet away from you) For viewing small things I don't think it gets better than these. They make everything so interesting, every bug and flower and tiny thing just looks so amazing. The textures everything has is incredible to see, even looking into someone's eye blew me away. Now for cons if I have to give some, there isn't really any protection nor a cover for the front end sight piece, though it does come with covers for where you look through. Other than that though I guess it could have also come with a microfiber cloth for the lenses and the included strap is not the best. Overall I'd say these are excellent for the price and I would highly recommend them to anyone I know even remotely interested in the whole world around them, including the tinniest of details. ... show more

Style: Papilio II 8.5x21
This is a great product! I am legally blind due to a rare eye disease and my world ends at about 3” from my short nose (I often wish I was Pinocchio) but that not being the case I am always looking for something to aid my vision. Magnification is a great aid but most products on the market cost over $600. I am traveling to China in a few months and I was talking to my traveling partner about how I would really like to have something that could magnify things close up as well as at a distance. He suggested that I use binoculars. I said that they would not work at a close distance since they have a focal range usually from 20 feet or so to infinity I will bring a pair for distance but really would like to find something that would work close up. He told me about these great binoculars that have a focal length of 20 INCHES to infinity. When I received them I ran out right away and my world changed! I am able to see flowers, insects and can still use them for distance viewing. They are compact, light and easy to carry. They focus easily and have good quality optics. If they can bring a whole new world to a person with 20/700 vision just imagine what they can do for you with normal vision. One more thing they do not break the bank the cost is more than reasonable. Buy them use them and PLEASE take care of your eyes. Vision is a precious gift that can all to easily go away. ... show more

  • The ultimate botanical, butterfly and backpacking binoculars!
Style: Papilio II 8.5x21
We learned about these from Betty Gatewood during a class she gave at the 2018 Shenandoah Wildflower Weekend. Betty does exquisite flower illustrations ranging from simple journaling to rigorous botanical illustration. She needs to see what she is drawing VERY clearly. She is used to critical viewing, and can tell when a tool is above average. There are three big advantages to these: 1) crisp, clear, undistorted image and colors; 2) small, light, easily packed size; 3) ability to focus just about at the end of ones fingertips! Without #1 the other two really don't matter. But the image IS right up there. Pentax used a "porro" prism setup instead of the more popular "roof" prism design. This means the glass has more joints that moisture can seep into. Pretty sure Pentax thought of that... it feels VERY well sealed! But this also means that the light has a less tortured path through the glass, which help the clarity and color correctness. This also means that the far end of the glass (the "objective" end) can have lenses closer together, which allows a closer focus without the feeling of going cross-eyed. How important is the close focus? A butterfly won't settle at all if you get very close. But if you are three or four feet away a settled butterfly will stay put until the reason it landed goes away. An eight times magnification of a butterfly at four feet is a sight to behold! You can see details of wing patterns, antenae, legs, etc. that you would normally have to use a magnifying glass for on one that was dead. Folks who love looking at flowers in national parks and gardens know there is a "do not pick" policy. With the close focus you can see such flowers BETTER than if you held them in your hand... without having to bend over! And all this comes in a small light package. No, ultralight backpackers need not apply. This isn't THAT light. But it DOES pack easily in the brain or outer pocket of a pack, and weighs less than a lot of other FAR less capable glasses. This has to be the the ultimate botanical, butterfly, and backpacking binocular! ... show more
