  • Firmware makes the device a brick
Color: EVSCOPE 2
I was very excited because this would be my first foray into astronomy. For the price, I figured the telescope and technology would be intuitive and easy. Unfortunately, they have an app that doesn’t work. When the firmware doesn’t update, you have a brick. I am not able to even use the telescope to even look at my discretion. I reached out to their customer service regarding the firmware update. Even requesting technical support is a big hurdle. So far I am not impressed. For the price, I have a brick that does nothing. If they reply, I will change my review. ... show more

  • Poor Battery quality and support
Color: EVSCOPE 2
I purchased the Unistellar EVscope2 in November of 2024. After 15 Months of use the battery has failed. They have a known problem with their power management and battery. But have done nothing to address the issue and resolve their customer problems. They did provide multiple procedures to try and wake the battery up. If they have procedure they know it’s an issue. However in my case it did not work. They advertise a 2 year warranty on the telescope. However when I tried to get the battery replaced i was told the battery only has a 6 month warranty. This scope retails for almost $5000 US. My interface with their customer service was fruitless. In addition some of my responses from them were in French, so that caused delays in communication. In my opinion this product is overpriced and sub standard. There are many other options that provide the same results at much more competitive pricing and have better quality. I am going to sell mine and try to cut my loses. I would not recommend this product to anyone. Very poor support and quality. I believe their marketing documents are very misleading to the cosumer. ... show more

  • Good design idea however not impressed by the planet view
Color: EVSCOPE 2
The setup was effortless. The backpack made the transport job easy and even passing through the TSA at the airport was smooth. The phone app worked very well with occasional freezing. The galaxy view is great and the pictures were clear. However, the Saturn looks like a blurred dot from a distance. Similarly I saw unimpressive images for other solar planets too. I eventually returned the telescope simply because I expected a better image quality for the planets to justify the high price. ... show more

  • Easy to use, buggy app, often less than stellar images.
Color: EVSCOPE 2
I purchased this model in 2022, along with the backpack (really needed), and recently upgraded to with the solar filter. First, it's very easy to use - when it works. The real problem is that the app is often buggy. I use an iPhone and when it works it's fine, but any time Unistellar upgrades the app you may be in for some software gymnastics. I often have to reinstall the app (2 or 3 times) and restart the scope. Once it works, it's fine. It's very easy to use overall, but you really need to use a bright star and the Bhanitov mask to get the focus just right. Columation is also recommended but not usually needed. OK, now, once you get it all working you can find quite a few deep sky objects rather easily. However, beware that 1) the images are not that great - really depends on the object. From my pictures you can see stellar nebulae are pretty good, but the fainter objects not so good. The unit will automatically do stacking (what they call 'Enhanced Vision'), but I have noted minimal improvements past about 5 minutes. Other smart scopes will consistently do better with longer times. I think this maybe that Unistellar fine tunes their imaging algorithms to produce better images sooner at the expense of longer time data, but this is only my speculation. While it works in the city, you get MUCH better results in less light polluted areas. Tripod is quite sturdy, but the unit is very sensitive to wind, which will disrupt the images, often preventing from working at all. Overall, this unit was very good for 1) helping me learn what Astrophotography is and what is out there, 2) entertaining the troops at star parties. However, for the price the results are often not so good. I do recommend getting a smart scope over a DIY approach, as telescopes are complicated and manually doing the image processing is not trivial. I think the next generation of smart scopes by Vaonis (refactor type, easier to use but slower due to the small aperture) and possible the new Celestron Origin (untested) are likely better than this unit. I would wait until the latest models of these companies come out. Also: 1) Unistellar support is fair - they really don't know what causes app difficulties. For example, recent upgrades have caused the inability to track the Moon - who knows why!, 2) Beware of app upgrades - always test the latest software before you take the scope out., 3) the sensor used is not native 7MB - this is done by pixel interpolation, which may be why the images often look poorer. Note that from the Sony webpages state that the Sony IMX347 used by this scope has Horizontal Resolution [px] 2688 and a Vertical Resolution [px] 1520, so some voodoo is going on to get 7MB images. Bottom line:, for the money there are now better options than back in 2022. If not sure - wait! ... show more

  • Technology that helps!
Color: EVSCOPE 2
Finally a technology that works for you vs against you. I set mine up and after the adjustments I was able to capture amazing deep space objects. Watching the stacking process culminate in an amazing image keeps me up at night. I wish they had a scheduling capability. Mine is an EQ2 and it’s an amazing pricey telescope. Having the eyepiece is a nice touch for others joining the session. The app works very well and is user friendly. I purchased a case for the scope to ease transport. I live at over 9000 feet in elevation and can be at 12000 feet in 15 minutes so I have an advantage of being at a high altitude with great bortle skies. I have two other larger scopes but I favor this one due to the fact it has onboard stacking and AI inhancement. It’s my quickest rig to get me the results I want! ... show more
