Cranky to connect to Bluetooth and the software keeps force-closing on me. It comes right back when I reopen it, but that's annoying. When it works, the labels are great and it's cool that it's portable.

Disclaimer: I received this product to evaluate as part of the Amazon Vine program. My opinions are my own and represent my unbiased review of the product based on the way I intend to use it. YMMV. I got this as a replacement for a small Brother P-Touch labeler that I’ve had for years. I love it and it works very well, but typing anything but basic information on the little keyboard is a bit of a pain. So I figured, why not try one of these BT printers. Pros: 1) It’s very small and light. 2) It has a built-in rechargeable battery and the connector is USB-C. None of those micro-USB ports here, thank you very much. 3) It uses continuous label tape. I prefer this as you aren’t forced into a certain size of label. If you want it to be long, it can be long. Short, and it’s short. 4) It comes with a roll of label tape (pink, unfortunately) and the tape is pretty heavy duty feeling. 5) It’s easy to change out tape for different purposes, but you will end up wasting some every time just to so that you make sure that it will feed out when you do the first print. 6) The built-in cutter is nice and works well. Cons: None really at this point. I’ve only used it a few times. But I will point out a few things: 1) It’s very simple, but the only indicator is for power/charge. You have to keep track of the length of tape left. 2) Getting it to connect to the app the first time took a little bit of time. At first, the app didn’t see the printer, so I powered it down and back up and then it saw it and was able to print. I’m not sure if this will be a normal thing or not, so not removing any stars at this point. 3) I know that I ordered pink, bu tit’s very pink. And it came with pink tape. It would have been nice if it came with white. 4) The rolls of tape for these things can be pretty pricey. 5) The same button/slider controls the cutter and opening the unit. So it can sometimes be easy to accidentally open it up, forcing you to have to readjust the tape before closing it up. 6) It would be nice if there was a tape guide inside the unit to hold the tape in place as you close it. This would help avoid wasting tape because you have to extend it outside the unit to hold it in place when you close it so that the tape doesn’t curl back up and roll back into the unit. A bit of an annoyance, but not a dealbreaker. I haven’t really used the app that much, my initial use was for some simple text only labels. So I can’t comment on the selection of “sticker” or icons that it might have.

Going into ordering this product, I honestly did not have high expectations; each time I perused one of these types of label makers online I saw many shared concerns about core aspects of the device with this product being no exception. However, upon receiving and testing it out, I was delighted to find that the machine itself works great and the companion mobile app for making the labels themselves makes the entire process so quick, easy, and fun. We chose this label maker for labelling many items in our kitchen such as spices, flours, sugars, etc and this product did a fantastic job. However, there were some notable shortcomings that detracted mildly from the experience. For one, although it does not matter for most applications one would be using this product for, the label designs always seemed to print at least slightly off-center no matter how I adjusted the paper or the design layout. Again, this didn't effectively matter because the device includes enough padding on the label paper such that nothing got cut off, but this may bother the most detail-oriented folks. A more bothersome concern I noticed is that the app limits a number of features if you do not create an account, such as the ability to save and re-use label templates. I do not see any valid reason for requiring users to create an account for a hobbyist label maker such as this, and though it is presumably free to do so gating off such useful features arbitrarily was very annoying. Finally, my main critique is not directly with this product itself but with the label paper - the merchant seems to sell only colored refill roles at ~$13 for a pack of 3 small rolls. Being that this is more than 1/3 the cost of the machine itself (which includes a single roll with purchase), it seems to be quite expensive to continue using this machine if you exhaust your initial roll. You're also limited to using the red, blue, and green colored paper. I am assuming you can use other brands' refill products, but it is not totally clear what specific sizes would work here since the product specifications are so limited. Overall, I think that this is an excellent label maker for ~80% of the target market that will use this for a handful of simple labels around the house. However, if you expect to use this type of product continually beyond the amount of label tape included with initial purchase, I would recommend searching further for a more robust product with more clarity in terms of specifications and a more reasonable approach to tape refills.
