  • Great product
Size: Large (Kit w/ Tools) Color: Black
I found the installation pretty easy, but I work on PCs and servers all the time so I am used to ripping computer equipment apart. There are plenty of videos on youtube that can assist. I believe OWC has a video that helps you go through the process. So a few years ago, like 8, I replaced the HDD on my late 2009 iMac with a 1TB model. If you are looking at this kit you know that only specific model HDD will control the fans on the iMAC. If you don't get a specific model and don't purchase the thermal sensor from OWC you fans will run at full blast 24x7. Back then I purchased the HDD model that was compatible with the iMAC to avoid having the fans run at full blast. I recently moved and the HDD finally failed so I decided to upgrade to a SSD so I purchased this kit along with NewerTech AdaptaDrive 2.5" to 3.5" Drive Converter Bracket and I had the SSD installed in well under 20 min. The NewerTech AdaptaDrive 2.5" to 3.5" Drive Converter Bracket is not needed and you could just use a 2.5 to 3.5 adapter, but the iMAC bracket might not fit right and I think the cables might be too short without that adapter. I purchased it because OWC uses that adapter in the kit they sell on their website so I figured it would make the install easier and quicker. Didn't bother trying with a regular adapter so I am not sure if it would have worked or not. Needless to say this kit works great and comes with all of the tools you need to get the job done. I spent $115 between this kit, the HDD adapter and a 480 GB SSD. Can't really complain considering my iMAC from 2009 runs quicker than some of the PCs at my job that are only 5 years old. As a tip, use a set of tweezers to hold the screws when putting the screws back in that mount the LCD screen to the frame; those magnets are pretty strong. ... show more

  • Little pricey but does the job.
Size: Small (Cable Only) Color: Black
Worked perfectly with iMac mid-2010 model. Replaced original HDD with Samsung EVO 850 500GV SSD. No fan issue, so this thing did its job. $40 for tiny little thing is excessive, IMO. It should at least include mounting bracket for this price. Use OWC and iFixit YouTube videos for step by step. One recommendation, I found connecting monitor cable back to motherboard when reassembling everything the hardest step, as there wasn’t enough room to insert and lock connector in its place. After several tries and almost damaging connector, I ended up removing the cable from the back of the monitor, then I was able to comfortably connect and secure it on motherboard. Connecting it back to the monitor was super easy afterwards. You may not run into the same but if you do you can avoid damaging connector this way. ... show more

  • Worked perfectly for a 2010 iMac!
Size: Small (Cable Only) Color: Black
My old iMac worked great until it didn't. Fantastic... The hard drive failed. They tend to do that. I replaced the HDD with a brand new SSD. But what I didn't realize is that fans will run at full speed when you're replacing a mechanical hard drive that doesn't have the connector for the built in temperature sensor (other HDDs I had didn't have it). They are loud and I didn't want them to get worn. Using this thermal sensor I was able to stick the actual sensor on the SSD and power it with the included SATA connector. Just be careful taking apart and tucking in this connector, I recommend going to iFixit's website to view some suggestions for whatever model you're using this on. ... show more

  • Works like it should.
Size: Small (Cable Only) Color: Black
Works well. If you can install a hard drive in an IMac this is easy enough. I feel it's a little more expensive than it should be but you don't have many other options. The only other way to stop hard drive fan from going full speed all the time is to install fan control software and that comes with its own problems. ... show more

  • Great for SSD upgrade in iMac
Size: Large (Kit w/ Tools) Color: Black
I just used this kit to install and SSD on a 2011 iMac which the drive failed on and it was much easier than I thought it would be with this kit. The inclusion of the temperature sensor is a huge bonus.

  • Saved money by upgrading my older iMac
Size: Large (Kit w/ Tools) Color: Black
Instead of spending $3 grand for a new iMac, I upgraded the Ram and installed a 2TB SSD in a old model iMac and it all works perfectly. The items I bought from OWC were essential to the process. Their online instructional videos were great and the kit I bought made everything install easier and perfect. I tripled the read/write speed of a mid-2010 iMac and doubled the size of my hard drive for less than $500. I might not be as fast as the 2019 iMac, but for what I'm doing I'm fast enough. And I still have the extra $2,500 bucks in my pocket. Thanks to OWC. ... show more

  • Great Kit!!
Size: Large (Kit w/ Tools) Color: Black
Had all the tools needed to SUCCESSFULLY install a 1TB Evo 860 into an aging 2010 iMac!! Computer now flies, temperature sensor and online video worked well. The hardest part of the install was reattaching that **** VESA cable. Everything else was very straightforward. Pro Tip: Don’t forget to buy a 2.5”->3.5” drive adapter when installing your ssd. I forgot and had to find one locally. Great product, just do it and thank me later !! ... show more

  • Great for My 27 Inch 2009 iMac (Model ID 11.1)
Size: Large (Kit w/ Tools) Color: Black
After my iMac's 3rd HDD died I decided to replace it myself. This kit fit the bill along with OWC's very informative how-to videos. The suction cups were very strong and taking the faceplate off was effortless. (The cups do leave marks on the faceplate which are easily cleaned off.) The plastic pry tool was also very useful. The torx screwdrivers were a bit small so I used my own full sized torx tools. The HDD temperature sensor was easy to install. Later on I used these tools to replace my iMac's optical drive. ... show more
