This is designed to be hung. Has an attachment at the top and they supply the chain. Chain with hooks was at 22 inches long, btw. The unit is about 9 and a half inches tall, then the pull string was just over 21 inches. This to give you and idea if you need any other hardware to hang this to make the pull string reachable. This unit is fairly light - just under 5 lbs. So this is a tubed based heater. It will generate very HIGH heat, btw. So head the instructions supplied with stickers on the top, as well in their description. You can easily burn something if this heater gets too close to flammable items. I pulled out my infrared thermometer and took a baseline while outside at 66 degrees with it off. One tug of the pull switch, poof, heat started coming out quickly. After a few mins I was getting temps of over 700 degrees directly off the coils. Remember, this does not push heat.. it radiates it. Thus, I'd suggest if you want to use this in an area that is cold, you'll need to give it some time to heat up the area, but it definitely will heat up space. I also suggest removing the two see thru plastic stickers from the top of the metal as that shield does start to heat up as well, I had it at around 115 degrees. The power sticker should be fine. The one thing that I struggled with on this unit was the power cord. Thus why I took off a star. It's mounted up at the top off to the side of the hanging mount. Thus if you don't have your power above it, instead it's off to the side it's going to have this unit (cause it's so light) appear to be cockeyed when just sitting there. But if your power drop is above, it will be fine. As it's a heavy duty cable thus easy for it to affect the orientation. This is a pretty nice heating product, just give is time to heat up the space where you need it. It is IP34, so don't think of using this out in the rain, etc.. But it is ok to have outside say in a gazebo. I've going to use this inside of a canopy.. perfect height for that, as well, just have to run the power line up across the cross bars. This is a well built heater and came very well packed so lets go over whats good and what is going to present challenges. In regards to built quality its all metal and looks very nice, the pull string is plenty long enough and so is the power cord. In the box you get a chain to hang it with as well as some zip ties so you can attach the plug to the chain to keep the heater from being lopsided. In regards to wattage output, on a kill-o-watt it was pulling 1450 watts when fully on so right on point for the power consumption its stated to pull which is good for safety and heat output. Now lets talk about the heat and some of the advantages this heater has and the disadvantages. In terms of mounting having it hanging from a change is safer then having a heater on the floor because people are not going to accidentally kick it over and assuming you hang it high enough (manual recommends 5.9 feet high with at least 2 feet of ceiling clearance) there is little risk to someone accidentally contacting the heater. However whats good for safety is bad for warming the space up, heat rises so when a heater is on the floor it must travel up and will cover the area from the floor to the ceiling, with this being hung up the heat will only travel from the heater to the ceiling. This means people under this heater are not getting direct heat from the elements but instead are getting it from the infrared light instead, this is not very efficient and as a result the spread of this heat to people under it is very limited. Once you are more than a foot away from the elements you barely feel anything so if someone is directly standing under it there head will be warm but the rest of the body will still be cold. The effect is even worse if your sitting under it, when my wife and I sat under it with it being 6 feet above the floor we could feel nothing. All the product listing photos show this being used outdoors on a covered deck which is where I installed it but this makes things even worse, the slightest breeze blows what little heat you feel away and it ends up just consuming a bunch of power without actually providing any heat to you. If you have a protected cover deck with wind blockers that would help but in general 1,500 watts of power is just a little over 5,000 BTU and that is only good for heating an area of 150 square feet (10 x 15) area that is sealed. So in summary the heater is well built and actually looks pretty cool but as a heater the hanging design of this coupled with the fact it has no fans to force the hot air down means its going to end up doing very little. As I took a bunch of time to mount this and run wires I'm going to leave it up for now mainly because it does look cool but I won't be turning it on as it just wastes power. ... show more

This heater just takes the chill out of the air and makes being outside all the more comfortable. It is a mounted heater, so be sure you think it's position and placement through. This is a great value for the money.

We really like this outdoor patio heater that hangs from a 19-inch chain overhead! It has two temps settings: on and off, with a pull string. The 1500-watt heater heats a nice wide radius, enough for everyone to enjoy. Shaped like a UFO, this hanging space heater is hot two seconds after you turn it on.
