  • Great Opener And Look Great On The Counter Too! Great Opener And Look Great On The Counter Too!
Style: Can Opener
I purchased this Oster 3147 Tall Can Opener by Oster to replace my old opener and because I needed an opener that could handle tall cans. I have used this almost daily for the past year and have no problems with cans, labels, or otherwise. This Oster can opener opens any size can. The pierce cutting mechanism opens and pierces cans easily and the auto stop feature shuts the can opener off after the can is opened, and the magnetic lid lifter allows for safe, easy removal of lids. It also has an auto stop feature that shuts the can opener off after the can is opened and on the back side there is a built-in knife sharpener and convenient cord storage. Dimensions are 9.4 X 5.2 X 5 inches. It is very quiet and the front lifts up so you can wipe the cutter clean when needed. I also chose this one because I have all stainless appliances and this is very sleek and stylish and has a nice stainless look. Overall a great can opener. I highly recommend it! ... show more

  • It opens cans
Style: Can Opener
I always read a bunch of reviews before I buy and as with this one, people get it broken in the box or it doesn't open a certain can and they rate it one star and that goes against the possible five star rating. I am a senior who has had a few can openers over the decades and they all did a good job as well as this one. The old can openers were made of metal and felt like more of a heavy duty machine but can openers all seem to have the same parts. I have had this opener for a few months and have opened everything from a small tuna can to a #10 can and all cans opened(quietly) in the manor I expected it to work. This opener is not built to open #10 cans (the really big commercial size)yet with a little balancing act, I was surprised that it worked. Some reviewers said that they found cans that would not open but that did not happen to me. Before I retired I was a caterer and I still do lots of home cooking and I buy many different can sizes and they all open as expected. It looks good and works well, I give it five stars. ... show more

  • Works on every can so far
Style: Can Opener
This is a very basic little can opener, but it gets the job done. It's light weight plastic, but doesn't tip over with larger cans; it has a small profile, so takes up little room on the shelf; and the stainless look lets it blend in unobtrusively. Some other reviewers noted the electrical cord is not really retractable. It's not, in the sense that it doesn't just retract automatically with the push of a button. But it only takes a few seconds to push the excess cord into the back of the can opener, which accomplishes what you want --getting the cord out of the way. I like that you can push down the lever, and then walk away. It will open the can, and then just stop ....works perfectly. I did have to fuss a little the first time or two I used this opener to find out just how to place the can, but it really took no time at all to get that down. ... show more

  • Great Product!
Style: Can Opener
This is an excellent electric can opener! I replaced a terrible Proctor Silex can opener (bought at Menard's) with this one, since the Proctor Silex one never worked correctly from the start. I was very disappointed to have spent any money at all on such a chinzy and inadequate appliance. Because that one didn't work, I needed to buy a new one, and I am SO very happy with this Oster can opener! It's quiet, works quickly and easily, is automatic (so you don't have to stand there and press the lever, it opens the can itself), it works on all can sizes and types, and it comes with a knife sharpener! It's a GREAT, sturdy, durable product and a great value -- I paid a mere $15.29 through Amazon, which free shipping. ... show more

  • I like the new version
Style: Can Opener
Seems like you need a new can opener every 10-15 years. We replaced our old Oster with this new one and I must say I like the new version. It is a bit more robust.

  • Disappointing
Style: Can Opener
This is an okay can opener. It looks great and is somewhat easy to use. It opens cans satisfactorily, but chews up the paper labels on the can when it first grabs the can and the cut on the lid is not smooth. The price is reasonable, however. If you're looking for a reasonably-priced can opener that opens cans but doesn't necessarily do it smoothly and cleanly, this one is for you. UPDATE: I've used this can opener now for 7 months or so, and I'm VERY DISAPPOINTED in it's usefulness! When I purchased this can opener, I thought a can opener was a can opener -- not a lot of difference in any of them. Boy, was I wrong. I previously owned a Sunbeam can opener (which had been quite inexpensive) for many years and was happy as a clam with it. Finally, one day it died. So I found this inexpensive Oster can opener and thought it would suffice. WRONG!!!! It doesn't compare to my old Sunbeam! This Oster still chews up the labels on cans and the cut on the lid -- WHEN YOU'RE ABLE TO GET IT TO CUT -- is quite jagged. Worst of all, it's almost impossible to get the opener to grab the can lid to open it! Tonight I had a mess to clean up while trying numerous times to open one 14.5 oz. can. I tried and tried, many many times, to get the opener to grab the lid on the can. Finally, I resorted to a hand-crank opener, which wasn't easy for me, since I have Rheumatoid Arthritis! The appearance of the lid and can once I finished with it would have been laughable if I hadn't been trying to open the darn thing!! So, I recommend you DO NOT PURCHASE this can opener. I put mine in the trash can tonight. ... show more

  • Difficult to use
Style: Can Opener
I don't know why they can't leave designs that work alone. Everyone in my house has to hold the can at precisely the right angle to get this can opener to work. My husband prefers the hand cranked can opener to this because it's so hard to get it to bite. When it does bite, it works fine, but who wants to spend several minutes getting it to line up just perfect just to open a can? And lord have mercy if you’ve got to open several cans. You’ll be there half an hour lining it up just so..er..here..no..ah there..no..oh finally! Yeah it’s that annoying! ... show more

  • One of the Best Can Openers Ever!
Style: Can Opener
This is by far the best can opener that I have ever had! I bought this can opener to share with my family, but when I move out of the house, I plan on buying myself the same exact model. It's that fantastic! This unit really is automatic, like it says it is, and setup is a breeze. All you do is plug the can opener into a wall outlet, lift up the top right-hand flap where you would press down, attach a can to the magnet, making sure that the blade is where it should be, then hold onto the can with one hand and press down on the button with the other hand. Although this device is a bit loud, it does the job the way it's supposed to. Best of all, it does stop automatically when the can is open, although you can also control when the machine stops by simply lifting up on the button that you press down. There are no flaws with this machine so far; we were using a handheld can opener before that got rusted out, so this automatic, electric one is by far a much better choice! ... show more
