After spending many hours reading reviews, features and prices of numerous makes and models, I kept coming back to this one after narrowing it down to 4 no frills possibilities. Couldn't justify the price of a battery saw considering how few times I need one each year. Primarily use is for cutting down trees here and there on the property. Used strictly gas saws for decades. When they run, they're great. When they don't, you're worn out from trying to start them before you have a chance to start cutting, only to conclude, it's time to rebuild the fuel system. That gets old quick. Here is what I found after using this electric saw a couple of times.. -The low profile chain it comes with cuts faster than I expected it to. -Power is decent for a corded saw. -Well balanced weight. -So much quieter than gas and no fumes. Smell the wood instead of exhaust. -The instant stop safely features are nice. -Have not experienced any oil weeping after a month of sitting while using big box store bar and chain SAE 30 weight oil. The saw is stored at room temp on plastic as a precaution with the reservoir half full. This may prove different in a very hot garage during the summer. Time will tell. Very pleased at the moment. -I was very skeptical of a tool-less chain adjuster. Not as precise as a threaded adjuster. It works fine once you get a feel for it. Shortens the time making adjustments. No negatives. Overall, does what I need it to do. Happy with the purchase.

Amazing Chainsaw: affordable quality, corded electric with strong motor and low kick-back chain

I probably should admit right from the start that this wasn't the chainsaw I had wanted to buy. When it comes to tools I tend to evaluate how likely I'm to keep using it and if so I'm happy to pay a premium for a good quality tool that will last me a long time. If it is just for a single project or short term usage I rather look for something cheap to buy and I'm only checking reviews to see whether or not it will work for the intended purpose and what (if any) risks it poses to me or any property I'm using it on. This chainsaw doesn't fit into either the top quality (Stihl) or the bargain basement category. I had already determined that I would probably never need this chainsaw again. I only needed it for some overgrown weeds that resisted even a foot-long sawz-all blade. I was happy to discover a chainsaw at the big box stores that was getting reasonably good reviews (WEN 4017) and was even cheaper then the model offered by everybody's bargain tool supplier HF. However when I tried to buy it, nobody had it in stock. Even Amazon couldn't provide a firm delivery date for that chainsaw. However Amazon, being ever so helpful, promptly alerted me to a special offer for Oregon CS1400 and CS1500 chainsaws with next day delivery. Thanks to the special offer the Oregon CS1400 was priced just 20% higher then the bargain chainsaw I had been looking for but it also has a 20% stronger motor. This meant I ended up with a quality brand name product at a reasonable price. Having only limited chainsaw experience, I paid attention the manual (especially all the safety issues) and tips from other reviewers. I made sure the oil reservoir was full with chainsaw oil and also let the motor run idle until oil gets delivered to the chain before attempting to cut anything. Another important tip was to carefully tension the chain (there is some interaction between the tension wheel and the open/close screw for the lid) before turning it on briefly and then checking the tension again (just as some other reviewers have observed, after a brief initial run the chain tension was loose). I found the CS1400 easy to assemble and easy to use. However I do wish to remind everybody that chainsaws are inherently dangerous tools and to read and follow all safety instructions. This is a good chainsaw and i'm very happy with this purchase.

Nice saw but a bit difficult to assemble and initially adjust

Bought this for cutting firewood to woodstove sizes, mostly 6' or smaller logs. Saw seems well made and cuts well but the instructions and assembly process were difficult. Instructions show how to assemble the tension system to the bar but it came already assembled which was a good thing but with no real info on adjustments. I'm used to the old fashioned two bolt system so getting everything lined up and screwed together was a bit difficult. Got to say though that so far this tool-less tensioning works much better than that on another saw I have which constantly throws its chain and is so hard to adjust I wish it used the old 2 bolt system. This Oregon rig does not seem to throw chains once you have it properly assembled. Unfortunatley, the screw that holds the tensioning assembly to the bar on my Oregon cs1400 was frozen in place due to being screwed on at the factory at a bit of an angle. It was soft and would not unscrew when I tried to remove it, trying to just wiped out the Phillips head grooves, so if I put on a new bar, I will have to also order a new tensioning assembly. It only runs about $16 or so though so not real expensive, but with a new bar it would still cost almost as much as just buying a new saw. Not a big deal as these little rigs usually get replaced periodically anyway. I do wish these came with the old two bolt system for adjustment. To me, it seems every time manufacturers try to make things easier and idiot proof, they wind up messing up a good thing that actually worked well.

Five Years In: Still Going Strong, Worth a Review

I’ve been using this chainsaw for over five years now, and it’s cleared at least 50 full-sized trees’ worth of cuts in that time. It’s taken more abuse than it probably should’ve and still runs strong without any major issues. One of the things I appreciate most is how safe it feels to use. The chain stops instantly when I let off the trigger, which has probably saved me from a few close calls. It’s also just easier to work with, on the quieter side for me personally, and light enough I can almost handle it with one hand, but prolonged work means that it's still a little heavier than I'd like it. But that's the cost of a strong motor. The only real issue is Oil leaking. It does that. But that's not really a problem for me - just put it in a bag until it stops or until I need it again. Honestly, I didn’t expect it to last this long, but it’s been solid. With a sharp chain and a decent extension cord, it cuts fast and clean. Still one of the best tools I’ve bought. I'd rate it up there with my Worx Jawsaw.

I love my Oregon electric chainsaw

I have a variety of Stihl chainsaws and brush cutters. They are fine tools and have stood the test of time. I would not give them up without a fight. But, this electric saw is a most convenient tool for cutting wood close to the house. i have found it convenient to cut pieces of tree trunk in the woods and then carry and haul them to my back yard to cut into stove-wood lengths using this electric saw. The chips produced by this saw are uniformly sized and will provide mulch for garden and yard. I love that the chain stops instantly when the trigger is released while the motor slows to a stop. I do not have to deal with a constantly running gasoline motor. This saw is lighter and more maneuverable and yet cuts extremely well. The chain needed tightening pretty soon after first using it but after it wore the paint off the bar edge and wore in it has stayed tight after cutting quite a pile of firewood. It does drip a little oil when in storage but not as much as my gas saws. That was expected. The chain tensioning system is new to me and I love it. I am amazed by the quality of this useful and convenient tool.

I do not recommend Oregon brand electric chainsaws.

I purchased the saw new and used it without issue the first 5 to 7 times. It was used to trim tree branches and cared for. After the 7th usage, I found that it had leaked all of its bar oil on my garage floor. I refilled it and used the saw without issue and left it in a plastic tub in case the oil leaked out again, which it did. In the end I used it about 10 times before the motor had a burned smell and would stop running for about 30 seconds. The value for the money of this electric saw is not good. I trust Oregon chains but I won't purchase another Oregon saw. The durability of this unit is very poor. The quality is very low.

In love with my Oregon!

Looking for a 14 inch chainsaw I found the Oregon 16 inch. Initially I did not want anything too heavy, due to my health condition. At 11 pounds, it's a bit heavier than I was expecting, but boy this toy have lots of power. Very easy to use and maintain. It may take you a while to properly get the chain installed, so be mindful of the instructions. Other than that, the machine works great, cuts trees like butter and is super easy to adjust with no tools. I love the safety features that the chain stops completely when you depress the trigger or activate the hand brake. It makes it a very safe unit to work. Great machine at a great price. A good brand with lots of support and parts to keep it running.
