  • I Only Use Onkyo Receivers
I have owned well over a dozen Onkyo receivers in the past 50 years. They are reliable and perform as advertised. This one is no different. Easy to setup, powerful, and great for home theater or listening to music. I have purchased several receivers that were not refurbished by Onkyo, yet if I have an issue or a question, I can call Onlyo customer support. They are always friendly, very knowledgeable, and don’t care that I didn’t buy it from them. Their customer service is as good as their products. ... show more

  • Good features, including HDMI-CEC (ARC)
This thing needs a warning label in huge bright red letters that says "DO NOT HOOK UP THE ROOM CORRECTION MICROPHONE UNTIL THE SETUP WIZARD TELLS YOU TO!!!" I was dumb and thought I had received a DoA unit because it simply would not put out sound to the front speakers while I was setting it up. I guess that 3.5mm audio jack for the mic cuts out the front speakers most of the time. Also didn't help that 3 of 5 speakers I pulled out of the closet were dead / didn't pass the battery test after years in storage... This unit is replacing an older Onkyo receiver whose features are 20 years out of date, and doesn't respond to its remote anymore. That unit will work wonders in the garage. This one... HDMI-CEC was a primary function of interest and this does it. I know universal remotes exist; but my FireTV came with a perfectly functional remote, and it's nice being able to control volume from the same remote that's controlling the content on screen. Bluetooth streaming works, and pairing is easy, which was another primary interest. Sounds fine. Haven't played with a lot of the other features and services it offers yet. It's driving a pair of Polks that can handle far more power than what this will send, and a leftover pair of Magnolias serving duty as the rears of my now 4.1 setup, as well as a pre-out to my Yamaha 12" sub. My living room is only 16x19', and I have neighbors, so this will be more than enough to fill the room. ... show more

  • Great receiver
This model is very good due to have many outstanding features and the price is good. The quality of the sound is excellent and a combination with my preferred klipsch speaker this is another level with Atmos sound out of my TV

  • Sonos compatible!!!!!
Love the receiver bought so I could hook up with my Sonos speakers what the add fails to say is it’s only compatible after you buy the $500 dollar Sonos connect from Sonos. Would not have purchased if that was clearly stated in the ad.

  • Source detection is broken
I have and have had many receivers (including this units big brother) in my house with very similar setups to this one, but this receiver is absolutely broken. It refuses to see active sources and constantly sends a "no signal" input to the TV. Doing a full power reset does sometimes correct the issue for a short period of time, but not consistently, and obviously that shouldn't be a requirement. Looking for the refurbisher to honor a warranty claim for a replacement now. Edit: the seller refuses to correct any issues stating its outside their 30 day return window. ... show more

  • Bummed out about it
This is my Onkyo receiver, kind of a dream receiver for me. The problem is is now I turn it on and then it goes into protect mode. I've tried all of the types of resets and whatnot and I can get it to work with video and sound again but after a minute or two it goes back into protect mode. What sucks is that is not under warranty or anything and support can't do anything about it. :-( ... show more

  • Onkyo TX-NR696
I purchased this receiver to replace and old Yamaha from the 1990's and I was pleaseantly surprised all the features and the performance. I am easily able to run a 5.1.2 atmos system, the only short coming is that the receiver does not have any pre outs. But for the price you can't be it.
