The Omlet Chicken Coop Automatic Door has been a game-changer for us. While it isn’t the cheapest option, it was the only auto door I could find that fit our used Eglu Coop, and it installed seamlessly. The instructions are thorough (a full manual comes with it), and there’s also a helpful video. Installation was straightforward, and based on the design, I think it would adapt well to many types of coops beyond the Eglu. Programming is simple. I chose the timed setting instead of the light sensor, since shady areas can confuse the sensor, and adjusting the times a couple of times per year with the seasons has been easy. The door has been consistent, reliable, and is still showing 100% battery life after regular use. The biggest benefit is convenience—especially when we’re away. We originally purchased it before a vacation so our neighbor didn’t need to open and close the coop twice daily. It’s also better for the hens, since they get let out earlier in the morning without waiting for us. There was a short adjustment period for the chickens. At first, one hen was hesitant and got locked out two nights in a row, but using the manual open button solved that, and now the flock has fully adjusted. I specifically chose this model over the Smart Auto Door after hearing reports of the smart version malfunctioning. So far, this model has been consistent, sturdy, and exactly what we needed. Highly recommend if you want peace of mind and reliable automation for your flock.

Definitely a must have especially in cold weather! This was such a game changer in our lock up the chicken routine that we ended up buying two for the second coop we have!! The only hiccup we had was a time when some wood chip or straw got stuck in the track and the door kept opening and closing ; one of our hens didn’t want to trust going inside-(understandable)-so my husband had to carry her in clean out the track and close the door! Just make sure your track stays clean and it’s still works even with a little bit falling in there so don’t be afraid of buying this. The first couple of days you’re gonna have to go out and make sure the hens went in because we had an issue on the second day where one of the older birds didn’t want to go inside and she spent the night in the hen yard, *which is fenced in and protected, but I don’t know how much fencing and protection you can do against raccoons and foxes if they really wanna chew through your fence. Once they got the hang of it, they go inside about an hour before it closes. We did not get the one where you can set it on your phone. Our is programmed at the outdoor connection box.

Update: 15 months later and I'm still on the original batteries. And it was well below freezing and no problems with the door. I highly recommend this door. First review: So far so good!! It hasn't gotten too cold yet but it works great! Hubby put it together easily. I'm not crazy about where the batteries are on the door. I will update on how long they last and ease of changing them and how the door does in the super cold but right now I'm happy and so are the girls! Timer is only military time. Or you can set for solar. I set for time because my coop is in a shaded area and on a stormy day it gets dark. You just have to adjust it periodically. I'm still amazed I don't have to rush out there before work! The quality is excellent. I'm thinking of purchasing another one for the run for when I let them free range.

I’ve had this for about a year now and let me tell you, I’ve owned a lot of different chicken doors over the years. This one is by far the best and most reliable one I’ve ever owned! It’s actually so good I bought a second one for my rabbit colony! The battery has lasted so far as long as we have owned it. We did buy the plug in cords just in case since I thought the batteries wouldn’t work well in our Alaska winters, but so far not a single issue. There are a couple cons, but in my opinion they are not worth not having this door over. The first con is it’s a pain in the butt to change out the batteries. I do understand why since they make them completely encased so they are impervious to the weather, but it’s still a pain. So far I haven’t had to change the original batteries, but I remember adding them when we first set it up… The second con is that our male turkey won’t fit through the door…. Yes it doesn’t really count since it’s a chicken door, not a turkey door- but I still included it just in case you’re thinking about it for your turkeys. So every morning we let the big guy out the man door and put him away at night. Our female turkeys fit just fine (we have royal palms which are small). I am looking forward to the day these guys make a turkey door!

Installed the door no problem. But it never worked. The first night it was set to close 40 min past sunset. It never closed so I manually closed it. The next morning it was set to open on light level 1, it never opened even though it was light for over an hour. I tried to manually open it and it said it was asleep even though deep sleep was supposed to end at 5 am and it was past 7 am. Then I see that the battery shows at 60% and thought it must not read the battery power correctly. By the time I get home from work, the things is offline and doesn’t shut even though it has the command to shut. Next morning same thing, but I re connect to the internet. This time it stays connected for only a few hours so I forget that whole idea of using internet. Miraculously the door opens and shuts on its own for 24 hours. I think to myself hey maybe there’s hope. Then on day 5 the batteries are dead. I used new Duracell batteries that are being used in other items around the house with no problem. This thing is worthless, buy another brand. On top of all of this, the seller is refusing to return or refund. I bought the item on September 4th but didn’t get to installing it about 6 weeks later. So it was outside the 30 day return window, but less than 60 days later.
