  • 2TB + not detected, and installing drivers don't work
Capacity: 4TB
Background: I've had this same model from 2016 (bought new) and it was working really well, so I got another one since it was cheaper than other options, and I didn't need the fast write speeds. I plugged in this hard drive using an external hard drive adapter and initialized it as GPT (MBR only detects up to 2TB) and disk management only saw 1.6TB. Knowing this issue (since I had one of these), I installed Seagate's Extended Capacity Manager which essentially unlocks the remaining part of the disk. After installed all the needed drivers, I get a message that says "This drive already has the extended capacity", which it definitely doesn't as I'm still seeing 1.6TB. I restart my computer, I plug it into the onboard SATA port this time around, and still no dice. I download other hard drive partitioning programs to see if I can remediate this issue, but to no avail. Thankfully, this is an Amazon renewed product, so I can return it with peace of mind, so I got a replacement product, only to find out that the replacement acts the exact same way. Please note that these hard drives are fairly old, the two I received were manufactured on 05/2014 and has had all their SMART status wiped, so I don't know where it has been. TL;DR - 4TB only shows up as 1.6TB, seagate drivers don't work. Got a replacement, same problem. ... show more

  • Worked as expected, except that it failed after only 10 months.
Capacity: 4TB
Purchased this back in September. It has worked as one would expect for a new hard drive up until the last few days. Suddenly, it started making clicking noises and I have started having hard crashes from programs running on the drive and as of this morning the drive is completely inaccessible and HD Tune Pro reads the very few sectors it can access as damaged. The drive, nor the tower it is installed in have been moved since installation. So it is unlikely the damage is due to any external factors. Thankfully the drive was only use for programs and nothing was lost that cannot be recovered. However, after this experience I will likely never purchased "renewed" items again. ... show more

  • Not good for macs!
Capacity: 3 TB
This is an internal drive but I bought an external case. I formatted it on mac and pc and even with a PC it still says 800gb. It doesn't read 3TB even after formatting on a PC. The seller explained you would need a PC and a SATA Hard Drive Enclosure - USB 3.0 however I am unable to still get it to work. They did offer a refund I am not sure if I will do it yet or not. Even with a lot of computer knowledge I have never had this issue and am unable to get it. The drive is labeled as 3TB I have never seen or heard of this problem. The seller said its because its HDD, maybe I have just not heard of this issue but I have never had a drive act like this and I bought some. My understanding was HDD just made it faster but this is a little past my knowledge. If you are only using a Mac and want a 3TB drive don't buy this! ... show more

  • It's a big cheap refurbished HDD, I knew it was a gamble, and I won...so far
Capacity: 4TB
I do hear it spin up once in a while, but it's not loud. It is a 5400 RPM but with decent cache, just fine for most my games. Any big or intense games go on the SSD instead. The capacity read out to 3.7 TB which was more than I expected, there is always a little loss from the way it's measured etc. I always make it a rule to not buy second hand drives of any kind, but for the price, this was worth the risk. If it fails, it's just a bunch of games that cloud save user data so no loss risk at all except time. ... show more

  • You CAN teach an old dog new tricks
Capacity: 3 TB
I know nothing about computers other than how to turn them on and off and how to change the ink cartridges in the printer. You would never call me to help troubleshoot your desktop or latop. But, changing the hard drive was surprisingly easy and, my 10 year old Dell Inspiron is working again. So, you don't need to be a Rocket scientist. You'll just need to watch a few YouTube videos to get you started in the right direction. ... show more

  • 1 of 4 drives failed in 6 months, 2 more at 18 months
Capacity: 3 TB
Purchased 4 of these about 6 months ago, one is already reporting several hundred reallocated sectors. Be careful! EDIT: 2 more of these failed this week, about 18 months after purchase.

  • Refurbished, yes, but you wouldn't know it if you weren't told
Capacity: 1TB
I had to repair a home server project that had multiple failing pieces of hardware. Part way through the project, I discovered one of the hard disks failed. Thankfully, this disk is the same model number exactly and I was able to rebuild the mirror with no trouble and it's like a disk never failed. Recommendation: Buy. ... show more
