  • Not a bad printer, but I would go for the Ender 3 V2 or V3 at only a 20-50 dollar increase.
The Creality Ender 3 is a highly popular 3D printer, particularly among hobbyists and those new to the world of 3D printing. It boasts a budget-friendly price tag, a large and active online community, and a reputation for being relatively easy to use. However, after spending some time with the Ender 3, I've found it to be a bit of a mixed bag. Let's delve into the details to see if it's the right printer for you. Impressive Print Quality...For The Price (7/10): The Ender 3 is capable of producing decent prints, especially considering its affordable price tag. For stationary objects and models with minimal overhangs, the print quality is satisfactory. However, it's important to manage your expectations. More intricate details and objects with sharp corners may exhibit some visible layer lines and imperfections. If you require top-notch print quality for professional applications, you might need to look towards higher-end printers. Budget-Friendly Entry Point (8/10): One of the Ender 3's biggest strengths is its affordability. It's a very attractive option for beginners who want to experiment with 3D printing without breaking the bank. The price point makes it a great way to learn the ropes of 3D printing and its capabilities before potentially investing in a more advanced machine. There are even cheaper 3D printers on the market, but the Ender 3 generally offers better build quality and a larger user base for troubleshooting. Relatively Easy to Use, But Not Foolproof (8/10): The Ender 3 arrives as a kit that requires some assembly. While the process isn't overly complicated, it can be a bit daunting for absolute beginners. Thankfully, there are numerous online resources and tutorials that walk you through the assembly step-by-step. Once assembled, the printer itself is fairly user-friendly. The interface is basic but functional, and there are plenty of online communities and forums where you can find answers to your questions and troubleshoot any printing issues. Beware of Print-in-Place Limitations (5/10): If your heart is set on creating complex, moving parts with your 3D printer, the Ender 3 might not be the best choice. Due to limitations in print quality and potential tolerance issues, mechanisms that rely on tight-fitting parts often bind or seize up after printing. While it is possible to get creative with design and post-processing techniques to address these limitations, the Ender 3 isn't ideal for projects that require truly functional moving parts. The Verdict (7.75/10): The Creality Ender 3 occupies a particular niche in the 3D printing world. It's an affordable and accessible option for beginners who want to learn the basics of 3D printing and create simple to moderately complex objects. The large online community and wealth of resources make it a great platform for getting started. However, if you require top-notch print quality or want to create functional moving parts, you might need to consider a more advanced machine. Overall, the Ender 3 is a good value for the price, but it's important to be realistic about its capabilities. ... show more

  • Best printer out there for the beginner with room to grow.
This printer is very capable straight out of the box. I’m still learning something everytime I run it. It seems to be the benchmark standard for upgrades. There is a large aftermarket for maintaining and upgrading this platform in particular. There is a wealth of knowledge on YouTube for advise to set it up and use it well. Produces good prints without the need to re-invent the wheel. The learning curve is as steep or gradual as you like. I wish it had a standard USB jack or Wi-Fi , the micro-SD is a bit delicate and requires care to use regularly. Still learning how to adjust and tune this printer one piece at a time. Clean-clean-clean. I clean the build plate with a polyamide razor scraper and a spray bottle of isopropyl between each print, and glue is seldom necessary if the first pass has a large enough patch. There is 2020 slot cover strip on a roll from AMZN to fill all the openings in the extrusions to keep everything tidy, or print your own from Thingiverse. Leveling the bed is so simple that a probe is not required. With the Z travel limit switch set correctly, leaving zero gap with no pressure on the plate. Move Z+ 0.2mm and use a personal check 0.1mm thickness the gap the nozzle to the plate and you’re in the ballpark for sure. Check level everytime you move the machine and if adhesion suffers and a probe isn’t needed at all. The spider 3.0 hot end and a metal extruder has me running at 999% print speed with good results on PLA. A filament guide that keeps the crumbs and dust down near the Z-feed screw. I printed the usual Thingiverse favorites to test and adjust the printer before re-tightening hardware and adjusting it for greater speed and precision. Cheers and have fun! ... show more
