  • Awesome Printer! Awesome Printer!
Size: LK5 Pro Upgrade
I am a newbie to 3D printing. This was my first venture into the 3D realm and was looking for a good quality printer for a reasonable price. The Longer LK 5 Pro was the best decision I have made! The package was the best of anything I have ever gotten online. Packaged very securely in foam as seen in my first picture. Everything was well thought out by this company. Hardware and tools needed for assembly were supplied, with the screws neatly packaged individually and labeled to match the instructions so you knew exactly what screws to use. It also came with a small bag of "Extra Parts" which I later found out was a filament feeder, a strain relief and 2 small caps which I have yet to figure out where they go. These are not listed on the instruction sheet, but videos are provided on the USB drive. Instructions were intelligent and well written. There was one printing error I found, but I figured it out easily. To keep this short, I'll list my Pros & Cons: Pros: Well packaged. Very good instructions, and there are YouTube videos that you can watch as well on assembly. I had trouble reading some of the instructions, simply because of the small print in some sections (my problem, not theirs). The unit is 90% pre-assembled, the rest is not difficult to assemble when following the instruction sheet. The printer can be operated as a stand alone, meaning you can load the files onto the micro SD card (provided), and load them into the printer. There IS a printer port if you wish to direct connect the printer to a computer, but it is not necessary. The USB/micro SD is loaded with Cura as well as several small projects for you to begin printing. Included in the package, is a small amount of filament for you to print your first item. The control panel is a touch screen panel, which I really like, and it is easy to navigate. My last picture is a short video of how quiet this unit is. The only noise it make is from the cooling fan. Cons: Not many, and they are more of suggestions. 1. Please don't put the reminder sticker OVER the voltage switch. (As seen in my 2nd pic). That switch should be easily accessible. 2. The supplied putty knife should be made of plastic. NOT metal. We are working with a glass bed and it certainly does not need to be scratched. All in all, you cannot go wrong buying this printer. I am presently printing my first item from their supplied file. While it is not yet completed, from what I am seeing, the build is very clean and smooth. I can hardly wait for it to be complete so I can play some more. The only issues I had on assembly, other than the small print, was getting an error 9 message when I attempted to level the bed. I found that one of my connectors was not fully seated. Easy fix. The other was not getting the filament fed into the unit far enough for it to start printing. Both, beginners errors.. I am one HAPPY lady! **UPDATE** Added my first test print.... LOVE this printer!! ... show more

  • All of the potential to be an excellent machine
Size: LK5 Pro Upgrade
All of the potential to be an excellent machine. 90% assembled as stated, final assembly and initial set up took less than an hour. Printed both benchmarks on the included micro SD card with zero adjustments or tuning. Both turned out excellent. A slicer program was included on the card which I used for both benchmarks, then switched over to Cura and re-printed both benchmarks. Again, with no adjustments or tweaking, excellent quality prints. This was where my troubles began. There are two cooling fans with the unit as it comes stock. One of them directly cools the hot end, and the other is mounted next to the hot end on a bracket, with a 3-D printed duct to cool the nozzle. About halfway through the third benchmark test, and a total printer run time of less than seven hours, the ducted nozzle fan stopped working. 10 minutes later, it started spinning again but it sounded as though either the fan bearings were bad or the blades and hub had come loose on the motor shaft. I contacted longer directly three days ago and have yet to hear back from them. I will wait a few more days and then contact Amazon directly. I think the one I got may have just been a dud, it happens, and this machine is otherwise worthy of five stars. I will update my review pending resolution of the issue with longer or Amazon. Update (next day): contacted Amazon directly and the only recourse seems to be disassembly and re-boxing the whole unit for a replacement, and assembling the replacement. Update: The cooling fan on the power supply took a dump mid-print this morning. Still no reply from Longer. Feeling frustrated. Will update review if anything changes. Do not recommend. FINAL EDIT: I’ve had this unit for nearly four months. Longer eventually contacted me after a few weeks and offered to send replacement fans, but by this point, I had ordered better quality fans (and a few spares) on my own. Disassembly of the machine and power supply was simple and straightforward. I also used this opportunity to upgrade the extrusion/hit end with an aluminum kit, replaced the Bowden tube, and PC4 tube fittings with a stronger design with better grip. These simple upgrades solved all issues I was experiencing with the machine. They cost a total of $40. Current run time on the machine is approaching 600 hours. Zero complaints since the upgrades. Is it worth it? Absolutely. Print area is huge for the price. Worked with minimal tweaking right out of the box. Upgrades were simple to do. It just runs — and it runs quite a bit. Their fan supplier might stink, but I feel it was money well spent. ... show more

  • Save a Ton of Money with a Little Work and Know-How
Size: LK5 Pro Upgrade
This system is really great, especially considering the cost. Took about an hour to get running but I use these for work so I do have some prior experience. If you have not done this before, this is a decent starting point. You would get more hands-on with a RepRap kit but that can be intimidating if you don't have an electromechanical background. Even so, the LK5 gives you a more advanced platform and you also won't be running into trouble with things like fuses constantly blowing, extrusion issues or tables never leveling. You could spend thousands on something like a MakerBot and get features that are absolutely useless unless you're running a commercial farm (I can print from my phone! but someone still needs to prep the surface so no one cares...) or you can buy this and use the savings on everything else. The extruder works great, the stock metal hotend works great, the glass mat works great, the mechantronics are accurate, reliable and consistent, and the touchscreen interface is actually a lot better than I expected. Right off the bat you have access to a decent utility suite that will run you through just about everything. The only "problem" I have encountered is refresh related. If you are changing a temp and the system is not at the original temp yet, it will have to reach the old setpoint before it displays the progress on the new setpoint. In other words, it will occasionally look like it is not registering commands depend on how you do things but I have found that it is, and will update when it works through the command stack. I consider it a non-issue and it's really not enough to ding any points. Just pay attention. Lastly, the build volume is crazy for the price. This (and the stock hotend) is the main reason I bought the thing and as soon as I get my larger nozzles I plan on using all of it. Standard material issues apply, of course. Do some research and read about polymers. Build a shroud, use some hairspray/glue, understand when you shouldn't use a fan, etc. Do a little legwork and out-of-the-box you can print some relatively high-temperature materials with little frustration. Very few printers will let you print things like ABS or Nylon with zero understanding or input from the user and these are very expensive. On the other hand, all printers with capable hotends will print these materials successfully so long as the user puts in the effort. Be one of those people. As far as my personal use, I actually bought it for sci-fi pop culture models and paintable miniatures and the LK5 works great. Depending on the size I use a .1 or .2 setting and then finish with conventional methods like sanding or in the case of the miniatures I carefully use acetone fuming. Occasionally I make functional parts for work but only if we're at capacity (and only if they pay me!). Whether you are looking to settle for a less-capable $250 model or you are considering a $750+ I would absolutely recommend giving the LK5 consideration. This is an exceptional platform with few issues. ... show more

  • Works fine, but probably not the best first printer.
Size: LK5 Pro Upgrade
I bought this as a second printer to experiment with upgrades, and to have a larger build volume than my Prusa Mini. It set up pretty easily, most of the work of assembly is already done. The paper instructions are written in pretty good English. I will suggest getting the BLTouch probe kit straight off, as manual bed leveling is a bit of a chore. There are videos and guides online, however, that help with getting this first step sorted out. The printer comes with an antique version of Cura, I would suggest discarding this, and downloading the latest free version of Cura; there is a profile already available for the LLK5Pro in the newest version as of this writing. In my testing, the slicer that comes with the printer did not do a good job, and simply switching to Cura solved most of my issues. My first print stuck to the glass bed so hard it felt like I was going to slice my hand open trying to pry it loose with the supplied steel putty knife. I'm already spoiled by the flexible steel sheet on the Prusa, so I ordered the Fysetc build setup https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0861N8FH5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_image_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 which went on easily, and works brilliantly. There is a self adhesive magnetic base that goes on your heated bed, and the pei coated steel sheet pulls off so you can just flex it, and your model pops right off. Despite the obvious issues I had, I'm not going to ding any stars. I knew going in that this was going to take a little bit of messing with to get it working how I wanted, and the print quality is really good, now. I like the hotend on it, it is very similar to a dragonfly in appearance. Now I have a printer I'm not afraid to modify as needed, which has a rather large build volume. ... show more

  • Self Distructing 3D printer and Dangerous

I have had 2 of these. The 1st one Almost burned my house down when the motherboard shorted out and started smoldering. Thank goodness I was home when this started as I could smell the burning smell and started looking for it right away and it was the motherboard that was smoldering. I turned off the unit immediately. Now this 2nd unit with my 1st print on the device 2 spools of PLA into a 6 day print 80+ hours into it this time I was outside mowing my lawn when I cam back in the print head had messed up so badly that it had bound up on the 3D print somehow and the metal clips on the bed flew half way across the room and glass bed was ready to fall on the floor and break it was printing a mess in midair. It had bent the fan cover and the fan cover was making the fan make a grinding sound. A screw had broken off and was laying on the ground and I can not figure out where that came from. I think it was the screw that broke off that may have caused the whole mess with this 2nd printer. Save yourself the frustration. The company will string you along with SUPER SLOW response times and seems to be an attempt to run you out of your return window. Plain and simple if you want a reliable printer this is not the one for you. I have a 2 strike rule when it comes to 3D printers and this one while inexpensive it is also CHEAPLY built. Buyer Be aware - lets review why: 1) May start your house on fire by burning motherboards or power supplies 2) May Self destruct after 80hrs of printing 3) POOR SLOW TECH SUPPORT I FEEL MAY BE INTENTIONAL ... show more

Size: LK5 Pro Upgrade
I ordered this machine in February and received it ahead of schedule. I waited to leave a review to make sure I had the machine dialed in and the chance to put it through its paces. This machine has a large build platform of 300mm by 300mm square. I use cura with a plug-in developed by Longer to slice and prep my files. The printed quality was far superior to anything I had dealt with in the past. I originally bought it to print larger buildings and pieces for table top gaming and other practical pieces. Again, I am truly impressed with not only the print quality but also the machine itself. It does arrive as a kit to assemble. There are both printed and video instructions. Any questions a person might encounter can be answered by their support center in a very reasonable and efficient amount of time. This printer is easy to use, but before anyone starts their printing hobby: do your research. 3D Printers take some patience. Understand that adjustments and calibrations need to be made to achieve the best prints and reach the printer's best potential. This is the case for any 3D Printer. The design of this printer is solid and intended for prolonged repetitive use. I would recommend this printer to anyone as it is the best printer for the price. Most printers in this price range do not have the ease of use or the large build platform. And you can connect it directly to your computer for direct printing. Other printers use an interface that is a bit clunky to navigate or a dial to move around within their software. This printer has a touch screen and a very easy to use and navigate user interface. I do recommend this printer for many reasons. This review touches the tip of the iceberg. ... show more

  • Great 3D printer for beginners. Great 3D printer for beginners.
Size: LK5 Pro Upgrade
This is my first 3D printer and my first foray into the realm of 3D printing. I chose the Longer LK5 Pro over the Ender 3 for the touch screen interface, larger build volume, and price. To me, they are all pretty much the same since they use the same open source design. I'm sure there may be differences in quality of stepper motors or hot ends and extruder, but I am too new to 3D printing to notice the difference. The Longer LK5 Pro is a great machine. Assembly was easy. It would have been easier if I had watched the assembly video provided on the SD card first. The photos on the written instructions are really bad (see photos). During assembly, I removed a white sticker from one of the vertical z- axis tracks. This was placed there to indicate the z-axis limiter switch. Tech support was quick to get back to me with the measurement for switch placement. Print quality is good, could probably be even better once I calibrate the extrution feeder. I used NovaMaker's Silk Green PLA filament for my test prints. The all-in-one printer test showed very good prints. The overhang test began to falter from 50⁰ to 80⁰. The bridging test was good all the way up to 25mm. The textured glass bed is nice. I use Elmer's Washable School Glue Stick to help with adherence to the bed. So far, all my prints have come off cleanly, once the bed has cooled to room temp. The Longer slicer program is rudimentary but very easy to use for beginners. It is a bare bones version of Cura, so it is easy to step up into more print features. Within a week, I have been able to learn enough Fusion 360 and Cura to go from design to prototype. I definitely recommend downloading the temperature tower and all-in-one printer test from Thingiverse. It really helps understand what your printer/filament combination can or can't do. ... show more
