⭐⭐⭐⭐ OBD2 scanner that works, with a bit of odd behavior I used this on a Lexus RX to diagnose a check engine light. When I later took the vehicle to a mechanic, they pulled the same codes I eventually got with this scanner, so the results themselves were accurate. That said, the behavior wasn’t perfectly consistent. On two separate occasions I could clearly see the check engine light illuminated on the dash, but the scanner reported no codes and indicated the light was off. On the third scan—done back-to-back—I was finally able to retrieve the fault code. That inconsistency was a little concerning, though once it did read the code, it matched the professional scan. I don't have much experience with OBD2 scanners so perhaps this is a thing they do? On the positive side, the unit is small, easy to use, and quick to navigate. It’s handy to keep around and does what it’s supposed to do once it connects properly. At $49.99 at the time of order, it feels reasonably priced for a basic code reader with live data, but the need for multiple scans to get results keeps it from being flawless in my experience. I also went through the menu and all the live data was available though I didn't have any use for it. This car has an intermittent issue which I don't think is from the knock sensor. I'm waiting for another code before I trace it further.

The VEHLIVE V850 Car Code Reader is a full-function OBD2 scanner with several features that go beyond simply scanning for stored trouble codes. For example, battery voltage can be monitored pre- and post-startup which gives insight into the health of the battery and the charging system. One of the features I like about the V850 is the curved sides which make one-handed operation easier. It’s about the same size as a large cellphone, but much thicker, which makes it possible to hold it in one hand and operate it with your thumb, presuming that’s your preferred phone operational style. I have a 1996 model vehicle that I always use to test the operation of OBD2 scanners, and this one worked just fine with my older vehicle. Many additional capabilities have been added to the newest vehicles to monitor numerous systems, functions and sensors. This scanner reads the vehicle identification number (VIN) on newer vehicles, but not on my 1996 truck. I got a “Not supported” message when I selected the VIN function. It displayed the VIN on my 2014 Toyota Tacoma. Some functions can be displayed graphically (parameter displayed over time) which provide meaningful information related to intermittent problems. Lifetime updates of the installed database are available free of charge and are installed using a computer and the included USB-A to USB-C cable. I did not test that capability. Printing reports is also done via computer (untested). The scanner’s screen, albeit relatively small at just under 3 inches diagonally, is similar in size to other scanners of this type and price range. The display is bright enough to easily read outdoors. The OBD2 connector cable is 35-1/2 inches long and the connector attached firmly to both of my vehicles. While the manufacturer claims there are over 100,000 codes in the installed database, I have no idea how to verify that claim. I loaned the V850 to my brother to do some checks on his 2007 Ford truck because his gas mileage suddenly dropped to 7 miles per gallon (mpg) but the check engine light has not come on. I’m waiting for him to report back to see if the scanner can find any fault with his truck. I’m aware of a specific potential issue related to the reference voltage in the electronic control module (ECM) that drastically affects fuel mileage which I hope the graphic display function may be able to see. For the price, this is an incredibly capable OBD2 scanner. Even if you don’t do your own testing automotive repairs, it’s good to know the reason behind the pesky check engine light on your dash before seeking repairs.
