Figured it was time to save some money and learn to brew my own fancy beer. Wanted to start small with a gallon kit incase I created a bad batch and didn't want to be stuck with a case of awful beer. This kit came with everything I needed to make my own home brew and feel like a craft brewer while doing it. The instructions were clear and easy to follow. They also help understand how to brew beer of any kind and what it takes to do so. The glass carboy with the built in pour valve is nice and works well once you figure out how to get the valve on tightly. I ended up purchasing 2 separate carboys and siphon my brews into this one with the built-in valve for bottling. The beer itself was tasty, got the Kama Citra, and so easy to brew that it is almost fool proof. Just follow the instructions, keep it in the carboy fermenting for an extra week, and you are good to go. One thing that I wish it did have, which I got separately, was a hydrometer to determine ABV of the beer, and that the bottles were those flip top lid kind instead of bottle caps.

The ingredients that come with this kit are excellent and came quite fresh. The bottles, capper, and sanitizer all seem to work very well also. The instructions are very clear and easy to understand. However, the Little Big Mouth Bubbler has some issues. The first one I got cracked when I put in the spigot. Northern Brewer was kind enough to replace it for me, so I would say their customer service is absolutely excellent. Unfortunately the replacement bubbler leaked at the spigot no matter what I did - I removed and replaced the spigot a dozen times before seeking out other options. Finally a friend recommended using silicone caulk to seal the area around the spigot. This worked, but will likely need to be redone with each new batch in order to maintain a sanitary environment. Northern Brewer's customer service is excellent, and this is largely a well thought out kit. However, the spigot system for the Little Big Mouth Bubbler needs work.

The whole process is simple the beer is good and it was a lot of fun! The one thing I didn’t know is the amount of time the brew day portion takes! Put aside a few hours but every step is fun and it smells amazing!

Making my first batch of beer was a lot of fun. The instructions are super simple. Just follow the directions, and it'll work. The kit comes with 12 bottles, but I got only 9 bottles of my one-gallon batch, which the internet says is about normal for a gallon of homebrew. The beer's pretty good, too!

I bought this kit as a Christmas gift for my husband. As he is new to brewing, he had some issues and he emailed the company. The company promptly helped him with all the steps. When a few things did not go the way they should ( as he was just learning how to brew), the company promptly stepped in to send items so that he could try again at no charge. We will definitely order from this company again. I highly recommend Northern Brewer!!
