Frankly I like European Ales, Lagers and Beers. What I prefer and will actually go out of my way to get is a nice dark Beer or Ale as in a Guinness Extra Stout or a Leinenkugel Bock or near impossible to find Schmidt Dark Beer! The ultimate is a "Micro" Brewed dark from KC MO that I can no longer remember the exact name of! This is the first time I used this kit and I started with just what it came with to determine whether it would be worth going to the next stage being brewing their Stout from this brand. I only used the Lager and threw the Mexican brew in the garbage since has never been anything I would drink. Like I said "Guinness"! So to cut to the chase this Lager is better than any brand name I have tried and there are dozens of them. It is smooth, great tasting, not bitter and doesn't leave that vile aftertaste you get from so many of the brand names. It has a very very minimal amount of sweet that makes it just right and not that overwhelming kind you get in some American beers. So since their Lager is such great quality I now can't wait to try the Stout which I bought at the same time hoping to get just what this turns out to be a really great Lager!

My husband and I like to do projects together, so being the supportive wife I am, I supervised while he had a great time. I saw weeks of excitement because we were brewing our own beer and then the day came it was ready. The much anticipated day arrived where we got to take a sip. Surprisingly it was awful and entirely due to user error, but we had a great time and will definitely be trying again, so if your husband wants a beer kit do it. Hopefully it's not gross, but it will be fun.

I'm a master distiller and at the distillery we like to play with different fermentations. I decided to play with this Mr Beer system. The instructions are simple and straightforward. We made our first batch and bottled it. Waited the prescribed 14 days then refrigerated the bottles for 48 hours as recommended. The beer came out really nice and fully carbonated. We are on our second batch and will be bottling today. If you are a beginner and looking for a system that will work and let you make a decent beer at home, you won't go wrong here. It's hard to screw it up. The beers are not world class, but they are very drinkable and I wouldn't be ashamed sharing this with other folks. Well worth the money. After making a number of these beers, you can then decide if you want to move to more complex systems or just enjoy continuing with these. We have had fun making these.

I received the Mr Beer two flavor kit earlier than expected and was excited to get started. The flavors that came with it were not the ones in the description. I have tried reaching out to Mr Beer but haven’t had any luck. I had already opened other things in the kit so I kept it. I only cared about the Oktoberfest. Hopefully the flavors I received will be good.

This is a really great way to get into home brewing. My wife bought me this for my birthday. She picked this kit because it includes everything you need to get started brewing. The only other thing you'll need is a pot for boiling water and mixing in the hop extract, and maybe a cheap thermometer to stick on the fermenter to keep an eye on the temperature (or just a plain old indoor thermometer). The fermenter is plastic, but it is durable. I've brewed both of my hop extracts, carefully following the included directions. They came out great. The bottles are plastic as well and worked just fine. They did not seem to leak any CO2. I measured out my own priming sugar and both batches were carbonated. The spigot works and saves you from needing a bottling wand or siphon. It didn't leak at all for me, but be gentle with it, don't over tighten it. I think the bottom line is this is a great way to try home brewing before spending a bunch of money on it. Sure, there are fancier bottles and bigger, more expensive fermenter made of steel, and more accessories you could buy. But it's great to have a feel for what you really need before you waste money on things that are not as crucial. I will be picking up bigger plastic fermenting buckets, but Mr Beer will stay in service for the foreseeable future. Before I go, two crucial tips: follow the directions slowly and carefully, and do not bother your yeast, they are busy. Give them the 2 weeks in the fermenter and 2 weeks to bottle condition and they will do a fine job :)

I ordered this kit expecting the advertised Canadian Blonde and Octoberfest Lager recipes shown in the listing photos and description. That is not what I received. Mismatched product: The listing photos and description do not match the actual contents shipped. Damaged fermenter: The included fermenter is noticeably lower quality than what's pictured — thin, flimsy plastic, comparable to a cheap disposable water bottle rather than a reusable fermenting vessel. Wrong valve: The kit does not include the spigot/valve shown in the product photos. Instead it ships with a cheaper, low quality substitute valve that was not what was advertised. Condition on arrival: The bottles were smashed, and everything in the box was dirty, as if it had been sitting open in a warehouse rather than sealed for retail sale. No returns policy: This listing does not allow returns. Amazon should make this more clear given the condition issues buyers are reporting. I'd strongly encourage reading the 1-star reviews before buying — I wish I had. You can make your own fermenter from a food grade bucket & valve that should last a lifetime for about $20 or less. Even if you can't drill a hole, I'm sure you know someone that can.
