Few have the experience with batteries and charging systems that I have. I'm 68 years old and a retired professional mechanic who SPECIALIZED in batteries, starters, alternators and electrical systems. This is what I did for a living and managed a specialty battery store then my own shop that sold virtually every battery for vehicles, diagnosed and installed all related charging and starting system parts. The number one cause of alternator failure is a LOW BATTERY. The alternator is NOT A BATTERY CHARGER. It will not charge up a discharged low battery. Many many folks have heard to jump start a dead battery and let it run or drive the vehicle and it will charge up. I will NOT and puts only a small surface charge on the battery. Essentially the battery is 99% discharged. I have seven vehicles and only one doesn't have a maintainer on it. That vehicle is a non-computerized F-100 Ford. However, my Winnebago RV, 2023 ATV, Honda Sabre M/C, Honda Fit, Ford Ranger and my Dodge Caravan all have maintainers on them. Computerized vehicles that are not used daily that sit for any amount of time get low on charge. That's a fact. As a professional, I can tell you that if you want to do yourself a HUGE favor, use charger maintainers. I use the Noco Genius 1 on many things I own and this Genius 2 now just installed on my Honda Fit. Little is worse than going out to a low or dead batteries. Just as bad is starting a car with a low battery then driving it. It's very bad on the charging system and related components. These Noco products feature wide compatibility, are highly functional and are very simple to use. It really is a plug in and forget product that is highly useful. I bought this for winter storage for my Harley and I wasn't disappointed. Works perfect. Supercheap and super effective. Will work with any 12v system. Will also charge a dead battery in a few hours. Smaller than I expected but much easier to install because of its size. The mounting strap has two holes to install the plastic snap-on back to the metal of the vehicle inside the engine compartment using two self-tapping screws (provided). There are two lugs on the snap-on back that accommodate a velcro strap (also provided) which ties down the charger in addition to the snap-on back that is latched to the charger. A well thought out system to ensure that the charger cannot shake loose when the vehicle is moving. In my case I have attached the charger to the wall above the front passenger tire well of my Silverado truck. That way, the charging leads can easily reach the battery although the power lead is too short to go anywhere near the front grill (Maybe 2-3 ft long). My GFI socket is on the side of my garage, about 45ft away from the engine compartment but it's easy to run a 50ft outside-rated cable (SJTW 12/3) to the charger power cable under the hood. With the temperatures around 31 to 42 degrees F right now and a new battery I am able to keep the battery fully charged in a truck that sometimes sits on an outside concrete pad for 2-3 weeks at a time. I am very pleased with this product. It gives me piece of mind that I will always be able to crank my engine whatever the weather. It will also help me to prolong the battery life. I now own two NOCO chargers, both are able to condition a battery as well as charge it. My other NOCO charger is a NOCO GENIUS 10A waterproof marine charger which can be used for several different battery types and does a great job for my lawn tractor and 12v shed battery for LED lights. It can handle lithium batteries also which works for my kayak. My neighbors call me when they need help with charging because they now understand the problems caused by sulphates which NOCO battery chargers can deal with. NOCO make great products. I recently installed the Genius 2-D On-Board Charger on my RZR, and it has completely simplified how I maintain my battery. The charger itself is compact, efficient, and perfect for powersports vehicles like my RZR. I mounted it securely on the frame in a convenient spot, making sure it had proper ventilation and easy access to the plug. The installation process was pretty straightforward. I connected the charger leads to the battery terminals, then mounted the charger using the included hardware. Once installed, I routed the plug to an easy-to-reach spot so I can just plug it in whenever I want—no more removing panels or fishing for wires. Performance-wise, the Genius 2-D has been fantastic. Works great! I do wish that the battery connector terminals were slightly smaller holes but it works with a washer, it's a 2 w so it's going to charging speed at 2 w speed. It's easy to use. It appears to be compatible cuz it's automatic. It has the features I needed. It looks to be sealed and safe. One thing I have a problem with is the mounting clamp is just really cheap. It cracked on me in both screw holes. So I ended up having to Jerry rig it with some zip ties because the provided mounting mechanism is an absolute piece of junk. ... show more

I got this partially because I need a SLA charger and maintainer but a little bit also because of it restoration function. Some newer charger/maintainers like this also have the ability to apply a pulse that can help break up crystalization inside the battery. While this will not bring an old or damaged battery back to a new state, it does help with things like when a battery is allowed to discharge too far at least once but not significantly damaged otherwise. I didn't know for sure if it would help with my own car's battery, but decided to try it anyway. It actually did indeed seem to help. Before using this it would only last a few minutes with the radio powered on after the car was shut off before it would shut it down due to low voltage. Now it lasts about 30 minutes. This also translates to holding up much better when sitting over time. This is not magic, so it is very limited in what it is able to do (more serious damage may not even be repairable short of basically rebuilding the battery,) but in cases of one of the more common minor causes of SLA battery capacity loss it does indeed help. As for the actual charging and maintenance functions, these seem to work quite well. It's only a 2A maximum charge rate (it lowers twice in later stages of the charge process) so not well suited to large batteries such as those of a car except as a maintainer (which needs very little actual current,) but will do in a pinch if you have the time (I believe it listed 60 hours as the time required to 100% fully charge a car battery -- although it will likely crank in much less time than that.) You will probably want one of the larger ones for those. However, it does have the advantage of being able to safely work on practically any SLA battery you can reasonably throw at it -- provided you can spare the time for a larger battery. I am also using this to maintain (and hopefully restore) a much smaller battery and so far it seems to be working just fine. I'm not clear on the difference between this one and the 2D model. This one also comes with a mount if you would like to more permanently mount it (such as inside your car.) Interestingly they seem to have made the alligator clips that come with it have screw-mounted rings that can be removed for permanent installation at the terminal screws. This way you don't need a separate set of connectors for each as the 2D model did. So this is an option for those who need to do this. ... show more

I bought one of these for each of my two cars. Got them installed yesterday and they seem to be working well so far. If they fail or something goes wrong, I'll update my review. Turns out that all new cars keep running off the battery even when the ignition is off due to on-board computers, etc. And it really is necessary to keep the battery topped off if you want it to last a long time. Even after a long drive, my new Cadillac still needs the battery charged up. My 11-year old Audi does too, but charges more quickly. As others have stated, there are no installation instructions (not really needed), but there are no instructions as to what the indicator lights mean either. Seems like that should be something included, but its not. The Amazon website has all the Noco factory instructions shown, so I had to print them out so that I would know what to look for by the indications. The unit is small and compact, but the leads are fairly short at only 24". The Positive lead to the battery has a fuse built in that's placed too close to the eyelet. This made connections a bit difficult. Seems like they could have put the fuse closer to the charger itself. Once installed, they are really easy to use. Just open the hood, and plug it in. I made the hood opening mandatory so that both my wife and myself would remember to disconnect it before driving off! I also didn't like the idea of an electrical plug hanging out the front of my cars. At only 2 amps, charging can be a bit slow, like with the Cadillac, but I doubt they could have gotten a larger capacity unit to fit under the hood. ... show more
