  • Detailed & updated review: Encouraged read! Yeah, THAT good!
Ninja Foodi is rocking our world!!! Mother's day gift 2019. As of this review, We've made: roasted brussel sprouts, potato chips (1x me only; 2nd time my 14 yr old son made them), a whole roasted chicken, ahi tuna from frozen, french fries (1x me supervising/teaching my 12 yr old son - but I was "hand-off", and 2nd time he did it independently!), chicken soup, and a rack of baby back ribs! EVERYTHING has been spectacular! Yes, there IS a learning curve! I haven't followed the given cheat sheet to the letter, and I've researched recipes (Google/YouTube - be sure your search includes "Ninja Foodi," or make adjustments/be vigilant if the instructions are using a different cooker). Re: negative reviews about poor results: IMO it's lack of research or checking on it as you go. Regarding french fries: all perfect batches included 3 sneek peaks/stirrings (hint!) With only 1 stir, they came out like the potato "stix" you get in a can, lol (still yummy!). Seriously, I can't wait to make more! I'm excited to make yogurt. And for my upcoming birthday, I've asked for the dehydrator rack to make jerky. Perfect size for our family of 4. Be aware that potato chips and french fries require batches: basket isn't very wide. The size of this as a slow cooker is my "ideal." Noise: about the same as our microwave. Pressure cooking is kinda loud, but I'm new to pressure cooking. Smell (reported in other reviews): only with the initial use for us (or was it because I made brussel sprouts and haven't done that in years?). For everything else, the house smells of the wonderfulness of our creation. Cleaning: super easy! (& I hate cleaning, so this is HUGE!) Sneak-a-peek function is awesome to check and flip/shake basket. Be careful: the basket/pot is extremely hot! The unit is fairly large in size, and it's heavy! It has a designated place in our kitchen. My initial intention was to get an air fryer. I researched nearly every one on the market. I'm ecstatic about the Foodi because of it's versatility. I highly recommend the Ninja Foodi if you are looking for 1 device that takes the place of many, if you want to simplify cooking, if you want healthy air-fried foods, if you want to present awesomeness for meals, and if you want your kids to jump in and offer to make something! To me, 5 stars isn't enough. I only pray that it lasts because I seriously don't want to be without it! 11/19 update: Still LOVE it! Best device EVER! Other things I've made since initial review: yogurt (countless batches - HEAVEN in a pot!), steaks (yes, mine rival hubby's on the grill!), pork chops, 1/3 of Costco-sized (huge) pork loin, air-fried chicken, burger sliders, steamed rice, lasagna,1-pot dinners, baked potatoes, and I'm probably forgetting others. Most often: french fries, steaks, ribs, pork, chicken. I'm going to try baking a cake or brownies sometime soon! 3 super important keys to broiling: 1. PREHEAT the Foodi (~3 mins, with the rack in it) 2. Meat at room temperature before cooking 3. For pork/fish: Pat dry before cooking Husband's wondering if I'm going to ask for another one to be making ribs/burgers/steaks in 1, and french fries/roasted vegetables in the other. Kids even insisted we take it with us on one of our vacation trips (which we did!). Yeah, I don't want to be without it either! ... show more

  • The Ninja does about everything except...
I’m in the process of building a minimalist tiny vacation home (and rental) in the rainforest in Panama and since I live using a pressure cooker and fryer, I liked that this is all in one. You can basically do everything with this item EXCEPT use it as a slow-cooker but hey, who really needs to cook their food all day when it can be whipped up quickly and just as tasty in the pc? However, I did deduct one point because the slow feature didn’t impress. At all. Even though many answered my question as a “NO” about traveling with the Ninja foodie, I was easily able to pack it in a TSA approved storage trunk (can be purchased rather cheaply). It arrived in perfect condition. So it is possible to travel with this. Thankfully. So far, I’ve made several meals while in Panama using this foodi! My favorite was a chicken guidada. The chicken turned out very moist and flavorful. The pot was very easy to clean unlike my last pc which was ss and tended to burn on the bottom. Not the case with the foodi. The other best feature is the dehydrator. I had to order the accessories (racks) separately. I love this because we have several fruit trees on our property and mangos tend to fall and rot. Now I can make dried fruit and take it back with me to the USA! Very easy to use. This will make a nice addition in the new home. ... show more

  • Learning Curve
I waited to write this review. I’ve had my ninja foodie for about 2 1/2 weeks. There is definitely a learning curve. I am 53, and grew up watching my mother cook and I have always cooked very traditionally. I found a have to unlearn a lot of things. I have yet to have success making meat, Chicken or fish that is the same or better than an oven. It is great for vegetables! And the boiling feature to brown on top is excellent for instants cheese on top of cauliflower or broccoli. I am not giving us a bad review. I’m just warning but there is a learning curve. The book that comes with the ninja foodie is horrible. But there are plenty of YouTube videos that walk you through recipes. Before you buy I HIGHLY!! recommend watching a few videos ~The Salted Pepper~ YouTube videos. There are also a few really good Facebook groups to help. You can even be in the middle of making something it’s not coming out right. Make a quick post and you’ll usually get answers right away! Pay attention to the dimensions so you can see if it will fit on your counter. If you have low cabinets you will need clearance to open the lid. I have to slide mine forward to be able to open it. It is a big machine. An ideal situation would be to have it on a microwave type cart that is lower so you can see right into it and then you wouldn’t have to worry about clearance at all and you could store accessories. Oh yeah there is one lid that’s attached to it for broiling, air frying, baking. But there is a separate lid that is big for pressure cooking staining and slow cooking. So you will need storage for that. Many people that have a ninja foodie do not even use their oven anymore so this store right in the oven accessories and the lid. This is the 6.5 quart. I don’t think it’s large enough for a family a large Family. I got four chicken thighs and they’re very tight. I will try to come back and write an additional review/edit after I get more experience. ... show more
