I bought this because my glass top stove advised against using a pressure cooker. I had a regular coil single burner that could only get the pressure cooker up to 13 psi. This one gets it up to the required 15psi. You do need to let it heat up and burn off the coating on the burner before you use it for the first time but that's not a big deal. The only thing you need to be careful of is how hot the unit gets. Do not touch any part of this unit while it's running. Do not even turn the knob to shut it off unless you use some type of protection for your hand. I simply unplug the unit and let it sit until it cools. I'm quite pleased with this. Contrary to what many have said, there was absolutely NO SMOKING NOR SMELL when I first turned it on. None. It cooks nearly as well as my cooktop. The cast iron burner hold heat so incredibly well that a pot of water kept a rolling boil for probably another 5 minutes. Wish I'd timed it. I thought I'd forgotten to turn it off and kept checking it! Wipes clean SO easily, even after using it to fry hamburgers. Yes, I would definitely recommend this little worker bee! ... show more

    • Lots of carryover heat

I bought this due to my old range dying. I normally only use 1 burner, so this will get me by for the time. I unboxed it, turned it on max, and performed the burn-off they want us to do before the first use. I let it burn for about 4 minutes, then placed an 8" stainless clad pan on the burner. I poured in 16 ounces of water. I was surprised how fast the water boiled on the already hot surface. It got to a very energetic boil in about 3 minutes. I added another 16 ounces of cols water, it quickly came right back to boiling like mad. I turned it off. The water continued to boil for about 6 to 8 minutes longer. This style of burner element can be tricky to cook with as the heat doesn't end by turning the control off. Amazon was so fast delivering this, I was able to cook breakfast on it this morning after I ordered it around 7pm the night before. First, the bacon went in and it handily cooked it on low satisfactorily. I turned the burner off, and the bacon was still sizzling 5-6 minutes later. The big challenge here is if you try to cook rice on one of these. We are expected to boil rice for 1 minute, turn the burner to low, and cook covered for 25 minutes. This will still have water boiling in a covered pot 10 minutes later due to the heat retention. I had a range with these burners and rice was always difficult to cook on this style for this reason. Overall, I like this, and I have a rice cooker that plugs into the wall and nails it every time, so this hot plate that takes a long time to cool doesn't bother me. I believe that with quality cookware, this gets hot enough to do about anything. ... show more

I’ve had this before and I actually made a mistake on the last one that I had and put some plastic mat on it and it melted it but anyway I got this again and it works well it does what it’s supposed to. It’s a nice looking appliance also.

Exceeded expectations. This unit heats as good as a stove top. It takes a little getting used to but with a little experience you will love it. It heats up a little slower than a regular stove top but once it gets going it is super hot. One example, when you hard boil eggs.     • Works Well but Has Safety Issues

First off, the blue option is absolutely gorgeous. I love this unit having an On/Off dial. This stove top cooks things really well and so far I don't have any issues with food taking ridiculously long to cook. I do want to mention that this unit has two huge flaws that are safety issues and is the reason for my rating. The dials get HOT. If the dial is set to max and you want to adjust the heat later on, you WILL BURN YOUR FINGERS. Since this unit would be my everyday cook-top, it is especially annoying to need an oven mitt to adjust the temperature every time I cook. I have never had this issue with any other hot plate I've bought. Highly recommend this company adds a turning dial - what's the point of the safety On/Off switch if you sometimes burn your hand to use it? The second issue is that the feet's "grips" are plastic. Yes. Plastic. This means if you are using it on a tile countertop, the entire unit will slide if it accidentally gets pushed or pressed. This is not safe! I've bought many hot plates in the past and the feet grips were never an issue - they were always rubber and gripped well. Highly recommend this company update this issue, as it should be an easy fix. If you are willing to put up with the hot dials and perhaps buy your own rubberized grips for the feet, the stove top actually works really well and I highly recommend the blue one, as it is especially pretty :) ... show more

Takes quite a few minutes to heat up. But heat is constant and controls are easy and accurate.
