  • Impressive Home and Business Projector with true cinematic 3D
Color: Black
The Aurora's features recommend it as a complete replacement for a home or office Smart TV or conference or classroom display. In addition to the great sound system, there is a full entertainment menu, a special app store, and Alexa voice control integration. For home use: This projector is a great way to create a impressive 4K high definition theater-size experience on a large wall. And it's small enough to take to indoor or outdoor parties. For business use: At a price similar to the typical brands, you get a rugged device with clarity in partially-lit rooms, and a high-quality sound system. It would make a nice pairing with the Nexigo Meeting Camera 360. ------------- Features The Aurora is beautifully and sturdily packed. As with other Nexigo products, the original box also doubles as a robust carrying case with a handle. The device itself is smartly styled and scratch-resistant, and looks nice in a home or office. The first impression when the unit comes online is just as strong, opening into an extensive app store. Great safety feature! There is a motion detector to prevent people from looking into the laser beam. Also, the screen can be muted without shutting down. On-screen system settings menus are easy to use, logically organized, and offer extra levels of help, and sometimes visual guides, for example in determining screen placement. The remote can be paired via Infrared or via Bluetooth, according to preference. The Aurora can be mounted on the ceiling; however, it takes minimal space if set on top of a cabinet. It also supports rear screen projection. The fan is necessary in a projector and is relatively quiet. Its noise is not intrusive at a typical viewing distance. It seems to have two speeds and both are acceptable. The maximum image diagonal size of 150" is simply amazing. I evaluated the projector with 60", 70", and 120" diagonal images and the results were excellent, even on a typical wall. My initial thoughts were that a a white or off-white wall is best. After experimenting with walls that were light gray, I found the results to be just as good, in some cases the apparent contrast of images seemed better. The picture was of good quality even in a meeting room with downlighting as high as 500 lumens, but where I had separate dimming control of wall edge lighting. In this scenario, PowerPoint presentations and even bright videos with strong contrasts were easily viewed at distances of 30 feet from the screen. In a bedroom with three 600-lumen lights turned on and indirect sunlight from a window, the picture color and contrast played on a beige wall was quite acceptable at a 60"-70" diagonal. Two levels of brightness can be selected, giving the option to not overwhelm an audience in a dark room and to extend lamp life. There is also an option to shut off the laser completely, a good idea if you are playing music without video. The 25,000-hour lamp life will last many years assuming an average daily runtime of several hours. If the wall or screen is not perfectly flat, the image may be slightly distorted. Most distortions can be accommodated by using the focus, keystone and 4-to-8-point edge framing adjustments. These settings are saved when the unit is switched off. The manual focus screen is easy to use and stays in view until you release it. Of course, for maximum clarity a mounted screen is the best choice, but in my experience a special screen is not necessary. Inputs include Bluetooth audio, HDMI, HDMI ARC, two USB, and legacy A/V. Outputs include analog and Bluetooth audio. Network connections include Wi-Fi and wired Ethernet. Aurora's Bluetooth paired quickly to a Megaboom 3 for an audio output test and could be paired with a home theater sound system. It also paired with my phone as an audio input device. The system supports S/PDIF, but not through an optical link and I was unable to test it. Even expensive smart TVs have poor quality sound. But the Aurora's built-in 4-element, 60-watt speaker array is very good and rates this as an all-in-one solution. There are options to use various external casting protocols to to play videos without wired connections. I was pleased to discover that there is a built-in file manager that gives me access to 26GB of internal storage for all types of media - video, audio, still images and documents. External flash drives are quickly accessed through an auto-detect pop-up, via apps and the file manager. There is also support for linking to private servers. The 3D capability will allow a roomful of people to enjoy a cinematic experience. I was able to purchase and use standard DLP-type viewing glasses. Scenarios that worked best for me included 1) direct HDMI playback from a Fuji Finepix 3D camera, 2) 3D Blu-ray DVDs via HDMI, 3) direct play of 3D side-by-side (SBS) and top/bottom through Aurora's YouTube, and 4) 3D streaming over HDMI via a PC running Edge. The PC scenario was tested with YouTube, Amazon Prime and VUDU. When a usable 3D signal is being received, a 3D submenu will appear in the onscreen settings menu accessed through the remote and here you will choose your display mode. There is more discussion below. For greatest flexibility you will need to also install YouTube and an APK driver that supports 3D. At the time of testing 3D driver was a separate installation step. If you want to use this projector in a place that has a guest Wi-Fi login, you can do that using the Chrome Browser that can be installed from the Aurora app store. -------------- Areas for improvement The included paper manual is "cool" but difficult to read because of color and format. Buyers should download a PDF copy of the manual, available on the company website. The Aurora could be updated to support two simultaneous audio outputs at a time. I have partial hearing loss and I would like to have the Bluetooth or analog audio output active at the same time as the main speakers, so that I could adjust my own hearing through headphones. I would also like the option to add my own subwoofer to work in parallel with the internal speakers. The Aurora's 3D capability is a work in progress and needs documentation. When it works, it is quite stunning, better than any other personal solution I have seen. The support team was responsive to feedback, patient when I got lost, and promptly made adjustments. 3D users will need to experiment to get best results. When you enter the 3D settings menu, the Aurora will not tell you which display method to use (left-right, top-bottom, frame sequential etc.); you will need to make the selection. When viewing 3D streams from services like Amazon Prime from the PC via HDMI, the Aurora display worked nicely when the browser was full screen. If the browser is not full screen or otherwise the 3D is interrupted, the Aurora display may become unreadable. However, the Aurora display will recover so long as 3D is playing and the browser is set for full screen. Aurora could play 3D videos downloaded to my PC via YouTube Premium, but saved 3D videos from other sources would not play correctly. In my experience, improvements are well on the way to support reliable 3D streaming by means of the internal app store. Aurora has an impressive app store. I discovered that several of the Aurora store apps did not highlight choices if I navigated with the remote, making selections difficult. Nexigo suggested to use a mouse, and that worked! It eliminated the selection problem by taking on the tasks of cursor, left-click and scroll. But you will still need the remote to back up or escape and to get to the menus. I will happily accept this small inconvenience to be able to use the store and the built-in apps. The issue is moot of course for anyone who prefers to use an external streaming device such as a Roku or Fire Stick. Parental controls are not currently available, and that may be a consideration for a family entertainment system. Aurora runs on Android. It would be nice to have voice support for the Google Assistant. ---------------------------------- Conclusion: Rating = 5 The main considerations for this rating are that the Aurora delivers nearly everything I expected, and everything it does deliver is better than I expected. The product itself and my ability to understand it improved during testing because of Nexigo's quick responses. Software updates will resolve other issues. The competitive features of the Aurora are better than other UST projectors I have tried. In my opinion, the Aurora's overall quality, breadth of features, extreme portability and great sound make it an persuasive alternative to a Smart TV. Last comment. I took the Aurora to a nearby Community Center and set it up with a 10-foot wide wall display to demonstrate to the Center Director. She came in as a movie was playing. Truth: She gasped and gripped my arm and said to me "I cant believe this! Can we use this for movies at the center?. I said yes, of course!" Please note that I received consideration from Nexigo for performing this evaluation. My comments are objective based on extensive tests of the system and multiple dialogs with the product team. ... show more

  • After 18 months it has frozen pixels
Color: Black
After 18 months it started getting bad pixels or white dots that don’t go away and it gets more as time goes on. Spending that much money on a tv it shouldn’t start going bad after 18 months

  • Great specs for the price - updated
Color: Black
It’s still pretty new but so far it has been pretty good. Buy a ALR screen if you’re going to invest in a 4k UTP the pic was on a white cinema screen but because the projection comes from the bottom, the light will reflect on top causing some drop in gain. The sound is plenty loud but if you’re in a larger space like a basement you might want to connect a sound bar for added bass. Over all the projector is built nicely and I did add the three year warranty for peace of mind. I have some other NexiGo products and never had problems with them so I figured I would give them a shot. The specs on this projector would easily make this a 3000+ projector so I would say this would be a good buy. I will provide another update with the ALR screen and show the difference why you want one. I purposely bought both for comparison because there is a lack of reviews for the Nexigo UST projector. Update: I have had some minor issues with the projector not waking up. I had to unplug and wait a minute or so then it was fine, this has happened a few times. I had gotten my ALR screen in and it was defective but still put it together for this review the colors pop for sure. I had actually setup a return to buy another projector through AWOL tripper laser but after seeing the quality of this projector I made a decision to keep it. It was acceptable for the price and probably only marginally different with a projector costing 300$ more. ... show more

  • Excellent Projector, great value for the money
Color: Black
The media could not be loaded. I’ve been using the PJ90 UST projector for about a week or so and overall, I would say it’s a fantastic unit, with a few caveats. For the price, I think you’re getting a very solid investment piece to build a home theater around that hopefully, with some tweaking on the software and app functionality side, will get even better with time. While the manufacturer suggest projection is best in the dark (as with most projectors), I still find the image quality superb with the lights on in the basement, meaning it can be used as a main tv watching station rather than just movie nights. Pros: 1) As a 4K unit, this delivers a stellar picture, I’ve watched a lot of the World Cup games in 4k and have loved every minute of it. 4k movies as well (see video review showing 4k picture) show bright, vibrant colors and crisp lines thanks to the laser technology. My mother in law walked in while watching the USA play and was like “Wow, it’s like you’re really there”, so that speaks volumes to how good the quality is. 2) The sound on this has far exceeded my expectations. The built in speakers provide a deep rich dolby experience, though the unit does have an ARC input if you want to plug in a sound bar/subwoofer. I have mine in the basement which is a large open space, and still found that with the dolby option turned on in the settings, there is no need for an additional sound bar. 3) The projector is super easy to set up straight out of the box. I didn’t have to do much in the way of calibrating (not to say that’s the norm) but the focus and keystone correction process are super easy to do via the remote, no manual correction knobs. There are adjustable legs to adjust the height as needed as well. 4) The unit it’s self is sturdy, and feels well made, constructed with good materials. Lightweight enough to move and adjust easily to find your best viewing position. 5) The menus are all easy and intuitive to navigate. 6) Offers the ability to easily cast from other devices (Apple cast, chrome cast, etc). Offers an App Store to find content 7) can use with Alexa Cons: I have 2 main issues with the unit (plus some other minor things): the remote, and the apps. 1) The remote is fairly simple (think along the lines of a fire stick or Roku remote), it’s great for navigating the units menus (very responsive, no lag), but it doesn’t however work in many of the apps you can download like Netflix or PrimeVideo. Rendering it useless for much of what you need it for. You physically can’t move within the apps themselves, meaning you can’t click on any icons, or videos to watch. I have not had much success finding a third party remote app which would give the full functionality needed. Which brings me to my second issue, the apps. 2) The apps are semi functional at best in its current state. Lots of apps you’d use day to day either don’t exist in the App Store (YouTube Tv, Hulu) or don’t work with the remote (Prime Video, Netflix). First world problem, I know, but you’re basically forced to use a third party streaming device like a Roku or Apple TV to really watch anything. The unit has no problem displaying content from other streaming devices, so no issues there, it’s just the fact that you’re forced to buy/use some other device after already having spent $2K+ on the projector, that’s a bit of a bummer. 3) There is no input select on the Home Screen or remote. Small creature comfort, but having the capability to quickly change devices would be nice, rather than having to dig through the settings menu prompts. Overall, this is a fantastic unit. Get yourself a streaming device to maximize its capabilities and you’re good to go. Highly recommend purchasing for any home theater. ... show more
