I recently got some backyard chicks. They are still too young to go in an outdoor coop, but I wanted to get one and set it up before they needed it. I have researched and looked at a ton of different coops online, looked at video and such. This seemed to be one of the better ones for someone wanting to keep the coop budget under $250. It’s pretty easy to put together, but I did need to follow the directions closely- it’s not self explanatory. It took me about an hour and a half to do it myself. It’s not super light, but not terribly heavy either. My eight year old and I moved it about 30 feet or so with no problems. There are issues with the bottom having areas that need to be reinforced in the corners or closed up so critters don’t get in. Also the nesting box bottom would need to be fixed so it can’t be pushed up. I will say one of the things that really made me go for this coop is it’s not wood. I live in Hawaii, an area where it rains a lot and wood doesn’t hold up so we’ll, not to mention I didn’t want to have to add anything else to the roof to make it water tight. Even though my chicks aren’t in it yet, it withstood 3 straight days of downpours and bad wind and when I opened the door to look inside it was dry. I also don’t have to worry about the wood swelling or termites which is what happened to our old playhouse that I was planning to turn into a coop. It seems pretty spacious for my 4 mid-sized girls. I’ll update if I find there to be issues. I didn’t like it being directly on the ground so I put it on top of a makeshift dust bath area. I just need to build a ramp for them to walk into it and they will be good to go. ... show more

    • Great big puzzle to put together, but engineering needs a little help!

Overall, a nice chicken house but the nest area was poorly designed and not flush so the lifting roof portion actually broke a part off once it was assembled and given a test run. Clearly they did not allow a flush, squared union between the sides, flooring and roof, so when the roof was put on per instructions (it was preassembled) it lacked enough spacing for it to lift without providing enough relief and immediately snapped off a piece of the actual roof junction. But thank God for capable husbands who work on jumbo jets and have a natural saavy for fixing poorly designed 'unions'. He applied his own knowledge and high speed grinder to create a larger and more relaxed fit, then reinserted the roof after altering the lack of square to the nesting area and wallah, it was useable. Not as pretty as we desired since a piece of the roof was snapped off, but functional, which is priority. We had purchased two of these units, and the 2nd one was properly fitted with the nest roof, so no issues with squareness at all. So 4 stars for the overall concept, longevity as a washable and non-wood structure, and cuteness, plus the fast puzzle put-together concept with tongue and groove method. 1 less star for a poorly designed roof that did end up damaged due to a factory mishappened piece. ... show more

I put this coop together fairly quickly by myself. I made a rookie mistake while putting it together and had to start all over again. Even still, it was a lot faster to put together than my Eglu Omlet! The quality seems pretty good and should definitely last longer than a wooden coop of the same price. I wish it came with a run. For the price, it should. I caved and bought the run for an extra $150 which is incredibly high for what it is. It's awfully small too for the high price tag. Comes with a 10 year warranty which was a big selling point to me. I'll be housing a few silkies in here. I'll add more pictures once I put the run on. ... show more

Easy to put together and move around. I built a platform and ramp for it to keep it off the ground. I also purchased a silicone under the sink mat, the size of the interior of the coop for easy dropping cleanup. No complaints other than some of the screw holes had broke off but the manufacturer sent me new pieces for free. ... show more

This is heavy duty plastic, almost like the composite decking you can get these days. Which is why I bought it as the thin wood coops you buy don’t last me a year. However, this one is a pain to clean out as you have to remove the planks piece by piece off the roof. It seems like they could have figured out a roof that would open. So instead of keeping their solid floor in, I replaced that with 1” wire mesh so poop falls through. Then I just move the coop over to clean it up, or move it around and fertilize the ground. I still have to remove hay and wipe clean in the nest box, but that has an easy lift top. It fits 4 large hens fine. 6 medium hens ok. Mine don’t seem to like the roosts, I did screw them in as they pop out easy if you don’t. ... show more

This coop seems to have everything you'd need, good for 4 standard size hens. A lot of the reviews complain about having to take the roof off to clean, which almost deterred me from buying, but decided to try it out anyway. I'm glad I did, taking the roof off is incredibly easy. All you have to do it take two simple bolts out && slide the roof off. I also plan to add more ventilation && a few cinders for height, but overall seems like a great coop. Oh && the door is a little crooked, but closes fine. ... show more

I love how easy this was to put together. The instructions were very clear and every piece was labeled. It took me about 30min a to put together. The only downfall is the it is hard to clean out as the big covered part does not open up (only the nesting box part can).
