First and foremost important thing is to wear safety shoes or boots. I'm not kidding, if you get the 500 LBs mechanism and you drop it, it will break your toes or foot. The instant I picked it up I knew to do that. This is built like a tank and is as heavy too. I bought a top rated chair about 7 years ago. Now being a expensive chair you would think they would use a heavy duty mechanism like this. This is so much thicker and heavier that the one that came with the chair. If you have a good chair you want to keep, buy the 500 LBs one, it will be the last one you will ever buy. I give my highest recommendation on this tilt mechanism. P.S. If your chair goes, remove this mechanism and put it one your new one or save it for a spare. ... show more

I had to pay $50.00 EXTRA just to get this part to FIX the 500lbs(rated to hold) office chair I had purchased earlier from Amazon. That chair was JUNK...built with inferior parts that cracked(read the reviews many had the same problem as I did) and I almost fell out of the chair...and I DO NOT EVEN weigh 250 pounds!!! Now the chair is useable and feels very sturdy...I have faith that this part will give me long service life from the chair. I do think that Amazon should reimburse me for having to purchase this "FIX" for a chair that never should have broken...if it had been constructed with quality parts in the first place!!! ... show more

I purchased the #500 to get the sturdiest they had. Time will tell if it is really sturdy. It makes a thump sound at the very back and the very front leaning positions locked or unlocked. I put a little 3in1 oil on the metal to metal rub and it got quieter. Time will tell if it will not break like the original one. I am close to the #300 limit on the lighter one so I should be fine on the #500. I will report in a month or so to let you know if it is worth buying. ... show more

This was decent for the price, though the front-facing bolt-holes were a bit too 'wide' for the placement of the bolt holes for my chair. Not a problem! Carved out a space using some quality drill bits and a little finishing work with a small hacksaw, and it worked as intended and installed in less than 5 minutes. Should something change (within the next year), I will adjust the review as needed. ... show more

So I just installed this because I had to buy a new base and cylinder after destroying them trying to get them off (stubborn with strong tools) however, this is already better than the one that came with my chair. Just by the look you can visibly see that the metal is thicker, the welds are more secure and it is all together heavier. The tilt lock is extremely strong compared to any and every chair I've had, I leaned backwards with all of my weight and it didn't budge (I weigh around 300). To be honest it caught me off guard. I'll come back if I have any issues in the next six months. First picture is the new one, second picture is the failure point of the first, also this will make your chair taller. ... show more
