  • Think Outside the Garage — This Keypad Does a Lot More Than Open Doors Think Outside the Garage — This Keypad Does a Lot More Than Open Doors
Style: VKP + Rechargeable Battery
By the time I ordered this, I already had two myQ video keypads installed — one on each of my garage doors. Both are wired, both work great. So why a third? Because I realized the myQ video keypad isn't just a garage door opener. It's a pretty capable outdoor camera with two-way audio, remote access, and app integration — and I needed exactly that at the back of my house. Here's what I did: I mounted this keypad at my back door, positioned at just the right height to give a wide-angle view across my entire yard. And it's changed how I use the whole property. When I'm out in the garden, I now have eyes on the garage from wherever I'm working. If I'm coming back in with both hands full of tools or plants, I can tap the app and have the garage door open before I even reach it. No fumbling for a remote, no setting everything down. The camera also means I get motion alerts if something — or someone — is moving around in the yard that shouldn't be. Deer getting into the vegetable beds, an unfamiliar face cutting through — I get notified and can check in real time from my phone. Day or night, the image quality is genuinely good. I went with the battery version for this installation rather than the wired adapter kit, which was the right call. There's no convenient outlet near my back door, and since this isn't being used to constantly trigger a garage door like the other two are, battery management is pretty workable. The kit comes with two rechargeable batteries, so one can charge while the other is in use — no downtime. Just be aware that these use micro-USB for charging rather than USB-C, which feels a little dated at this point. If you're already in the myQ ecosystem, it's worth asking yourself whether there are other places around your property where a smart camera with garage door integration would be useful. The obvious answer is "right next to the garage door," but I'd argue there's real value in thinking more creatively. A back door, a side gate, a workshop entrance — anywhere you want visibility and remote access control. The app ties everything together in one place, and adding a new device to an existing setup takes just a few minutes. One thing to be aware of going in: you'll need a subscription for recorded video history and AI-powered detection features. Basic live viewing and notifications are free, but the full feature requires a paid subscription. A 30-day trial is included so you can decide whether it's worth it for your situation. For a third device that I'm using in a completely unintended way, this has turned out to be one of the most useful things I've added to my property this year. ... show more

  • Not for me... Not for me...
Style: VKP + Rechargeable Battery
So I am sorry I even started down this path of myQ. My Overhead keypad worked perfectly fine, without issues for 5 years. With more drivers in the area receptive of the myQ concept, I figured I'd upgrade. The keypad looks nice. I like the design, but that's kind of where the fun ends. I have an Overhead Door Destiny 1200. After a lot of research, it turned out that I need the myQ hub for this to even function. Awesome. Installed the keypad, installed the hub, installed the door sensor. Tested the keypad, door worked fine. Tested a second time, it failed. Hub is mounted per instructions, about 8 feet from the opener. Tested a third time, it again failed. Then it informed me that after two failures, the system is locked out and would have to be operated via the OEM openers. Wonderful. I'm outside my garage locked out of my own home. I don't trust this device anymore and will be replacing it with a new keypad at the first opportunity. I need it to work consistently and it's already proven it cannot. The subscription is $15/mo which is criminal for a camera system as poor as this one, (1080p,) battery life well below advertised, and poor functionality. BTW, once I got back into my home, my OEM openers worked perfectly. There was no reason for the system to fail like it did. ... show more

  • MyQ Garage Door Opener good for initial setup -- reconfigure beware
Style: VKP + Rechargeable Battery
This myQ Smart Garage Door Video Keypad comes with the video keypad and includes TWO batteries, TWO charging cables, and the wedge for attaching to your garage door. What I really like about it is the first time setup was a breeze, walking you through connecting to the wifi and garage door. Build quality feels solid as the myQ video keypad seems well made with no obvious defects which gives support in this being of good build quality and long lasting (hopefully) durability. The color is accurate as shown. Performance wise, initial setup went straight forward, connecting with my garage door without any issues. Video quality, overall, is decent to good. It's on par with the other video cameras that I use and ones that video people ringing your doorbell. Sound quality is actually very good relative to others that I've used and this is definitely a highlight of the unit. Night vision is decent and similar to the ones that video people ringing your doorbell but not quite as good as other major brands that sell security systems. Functionally, initial setup is easy to do, simply charge the batteries which takes 8-10 hours using the included micro-USB cable -- hello myQ please change this to USB-C. Then after installing the batteries, open the myQ app on your phone and add the device. Walk through the screens to add the device and you are done. That out of the way, there are some cons. First -- there is no local storage on this device, so if you want to any historical video, you must subscribe to their service. Second -- and quite possibly the most frustrating is that if you have two garage door openers you can only program this for one garage door opening -- sort of. In my attempt to reprogram this to operate my second garage door only, it somehow retained the settings for the first garage door so I had both garage doors going up and down, sometimes out of sync. After this was connected to both garage doors, I could not get it unconnected, regardless of how many times of holding the reset button for 10 seconds and then another 10 seconds to supposedly "fully reset" the device. In the app, it does ask you for which garage door to connect to if you have a smart garage door and no amount of choosing the correct door after it had connected to both would result in the proper door being connected. I somehow landed on a workaround. After resetting the device, on the garage door that I did NOT want connected to the device, I would enter the programming mode for that garage door. This somehow "blocked" it from connecting to the myQ video keypad and the other garage door would connect as expected. Choose your initial setup wisely for changing your mind after the fact will result in massive frustration unless you know the workaround. That said, for the price, this myQ Smart Garage Door Video Keypad provides a a good amount of value. Overall, recommend this item. 4.25/5 ... show more

  • More Useful Than a Standard Garage Keypad More Useful Than a Standard Garage Keypad
Style: VKP + Rechargeable Battery
Before ordering, make sure your garage door opener is actually compatible with the myQ ecosystem. Once I got it set up, this quickly became one of those smart home upgrades that I didn’t realize I’d appreciate as much as I do. The build quality feels solid, the keypad buttons are responsive, and the camera quality is better than I expected for something that’s primarily a garage keypad. The real value for me has been the customizable access codes. Instead of handing out a permanent code to everyone, I’ve started creating unique codes for house sitters, family members, and visitors. Being able to know who came and went, and roughly when, has turned out to be far more useful than I originally thought. The camera adds another layer of convenience. If someone is accessing the garage while we’re away, it’s nice being able to quickly check what’s going on rather than guessing. The wide-angle view covers the area well, and the integration with the myQ app feels polished. Battery life has been good so far, and not having to run wiring was a huge plus. Installation took far less time than I expected. What started as a replacement for a basic garage keypad has ended up feeling more like a lightweight access management system for the house. Between the camera, individual PINs, activity tracking, and app integration, it offers a lot more functionality than a traditional keypad. If you’re already in the myQ ecosystem, this is an easy upgrade to recommend. Just double-check compatibility before ordering and you’ll likely be as happy with it as I am. The notifications even have a modern day AI solution to summarize what’s in views (even if it tells you it sees your car a lot) ... show more

  • Excellent Upgrade for Security, Convenience, and Peace of Mind Excellent Upgrade for Security, Convenience, and Peace of Mind
Style: VKP + Rechargeable Battery
The myQ Smart Garage Door Video Keypad has been one of the best additions to our home. Installation was straightforward, and the rechargeable battery is a huge improvement over constantly replacing disposable batteries. The keypad feels solid and well-built, and setup through the myQ app was quick and intuitive. The wide-angle camera provides a clear view of anyone approaching the garage, and the video quality is impressive both during the day and at night. I especially appreciate receiving real-time notifications and being able to check activity from my smartphone no matter where I am. The customizable PIN codes are incredibly convenient for family members, guests, service providers, and deliveries. It's easy to create, manage, or remove codes as needed, which adds an extra layer of security and flexibility. Integration with our Chamberlain garage door opener worked flawlessly, and it's great knowing it also supports LiftMaster and Craftsman openers. The ability to monitor and control the garage door remotely gives tremendous peace of mind, especially when traveling or away from home. Overall, this is a feature-packed smart garage accessory that combines security, convenience, and reliability in one device. Highly recommended for anyone looking to modernize their garage and improve home access management. ... show more

  • High recommended.
Style: VKP + Rechargeable Battery
I love these MyQ garage door keypads. We buy a lot from Amazon so we’ve signed up for Amazon Key which allows for deliveries inside the garage. The video keypad lets see who is approaching garage in addition to a way to manually open the door video keypad lets Battery life is already good on kits own but this package comes with two batteries so one can charge while the other is in use. Super easy no downtime. Since the keypad is always connected via WiFi so you can see a video of who is approaching your door. Quality of video is good at least for closeups. I like this because the recording is tied to the garage being open. ... show more
