I used this to add a remote on off switch to my FMS Cessna 182 Model that is hanging in my office. It works perfectly. It can be a bit confusing until you understand how relays work. The Positive and Negative from your battery only trigger the relay, meaning it causes the relay contacts to close. The magic is on the other side of the relay where another set of contacts is used to actually control the flow of DC voltage. Those other contacts have three connections. One is common, meaning it's going to be used regardless of if you want to use the relay in a Normally Open (NO) state, or Normally Closed (NC) state. In my case I wanted Normally Open so that pressing the remote button completed the circuit and turned on the aircrafts lighting. So once you choose whether you want NO or NC, you connect the wires as shown between the relay and your load to complete the circuit when you press the button. Once you get it, it's very simple. I've found that the relay works down to about 3.5volts. Below that and it has trouble so it can run off of an 18650, 21700 or 21600 as long as the voltage doesn't drop below 3.5v (give or take because every relay can be slightly more or less sensitive. ... show more

Low power draw. Nice quality remote. Configurable. I installed it in a solar powered light so standby power draw was important to me. Power draw when in standby mode (relay off) = 5ma Power draw when in "on" mode (relay on) = 30ma I'm good with that. For my use case, the device will almost always be in standby mode. I compared that to a eWeLink wifi relay that drew 70ma in standby mode. Too high for what I wanted to do. The eWeLink relay drew 140ma in "on" mode. ... show more

Overall I am pleased with the unit. One issue that you will need to watch out for is the color coding in the wires as it does not match wiring diagram. However the circuit board is labeled so figuring out Normally open/ closed/ com is not bad, just don't trust the directions. The other thing is that it does not pass V+ you have to either provide V+ through the com wire or tie com and the V+ together and then tie V- to V- of the controlled item. This remote relay is exactly what I needed to remotely turn on/off my model train. I needed a SPDT (Single Pole Double Throw) and a two button on/off remote and this one has both at an excellent price! The small size is also a definite plus.

Thee coil that activates the relay requires 4.5V as printed on the device. If using a 3V device such as 3 C batteries, the relay will not will not pull and the attached device will not switch. One would need an extra 1.5V or an additional C battery to the circuit to make the switch pull. This would potential risk blowing out the connected component(s) such as flashing LED lights or similar ... show more
