    • Best purchase I’ve made in a while
My old screw drive garage door opener finally died after 25 years. While researching a new opener I became aware of the new direct drive systems. Did my research, watched YouTube videos and selected the Genie. I got the system with WiFi. Best purchase I’ve made in a long time. It was extremely easy to install. I’m 68 and I had no problems. The unit is light enough to lift and position on the winding bar fairly easily. One critical thing is properly position the cable tensioners. Initially I had them too far off the ground and they were popping off the cable. After moving them to the recommended 4 1/2” and making sure the gap between the door edge and the track was sufficient, it was smooth sailing. It took a couple tries to program the up and down settings but that was because I wasn’t pushing the button sequence correctly. After installation, the operation was flawless. I really like being able to open it with an app on my iPhone. I like to keep the garage closed when I’m working on the lawn in the back so there is no more need to carry a remote with me. The door is very quite. You can tell this is the way an opener should work. No more noisy operation the way the old opener did. One other thing to consider is that it requires an outlet near the unit. I had to have a new one installed. Besides that, I can’t think of any other negatives. ... show more

    • Great side opener for large doors.
For about a year my dad would manually raise and lower his shop door with a chain gear every single time he got in and out. Needless to say, multiple times a day over a year got old. The door was a 12x12 roll back so a regular opener wouldn’t cut it. I ended up getting him this one and he can’t stop telling me tank you for it. The install is straightforward, just make sure that you diligently follow the instructions and don’t skip steps like I did. Most importantly, make sure that you install the light that comes with this unit. This opener is not like a standard chain or belt opener. It’s designed to be mounted on the side of the door onto the rod. You may be required to get a key for the shaft so keep that in mind before getting started. I also needed to trim the rod slightly to get this mounted. You will also need to mount the beam safety’s at the bottom of the door, and will have to drill into your track to add the automatic locking mechanism. The install is straightforward. As for the operation of the unit, it is incredibly quiet. I’m amazed at how effortlessly it lifts the door and how it controls the decent. I haven’t had to use the battery backup yet, but I have no doubt it will take care of the job. The vehicle remote is a little frustrating to use as it doesn’t have a definite click like most garage door openers and the door has a slight delay when opening. You can also pair the door over WiFi and use an app to open remotely. This is a great opener and I wish I had gotten it for my dad much sooner. ... show more

I really want to like this opener. Super quiet, app connection is great but my remotes will not stay paired. The wall mount and app work great but the other remotes and keypad stop connecting after 10-15 minutes. The good: Very quiet Side mount profile opens up garage ceiling Easy install App connection Battery back up The bad: Remote will not stay paired Customer service, good luck reaching someone. Full story, installed 8/2/25, and connected 2 vehicles and the keypad. After about 20 minutes, I tested one of the vehicles and it would not open. I reset the remote and same problem. I tried with and without the battery connected, battery alone, disconnected/reconnected all devices and even factory reset the opener. Same problem. Overall spent about 3 hours troubleshooting this issue. I emailed Genie customer service that night, it’s now been 4 days without a reply. I called 8/3 and asked for a call back as wait times were over an hour. No call back. I called again on 8/5 and spoke with a representative, Michael, very kind but could not help. He said a manager would need to call me the next day. We agreed on 9-10am. No call. I called again 8/6 and requested a call. No luck. At this point, I have a 1/2 way functioning opener. The app still works, so that’s a plus, but frustrating to get a faulty device without support. UPDATE: Spoke with customer service. They sent out a new control board. Fairly easy install, but did take some time to do properly. This had no effect on performance. Able to reach another representative and explained the problem. They advised the wall console opener was at fault and sent out a new one. Installed it 8/19 and continue to have the same problem. At this point, need to see about a wired console or returning the opener and going with my back up option, a chamberlain device. ... show more
