This is a great machine for beginners of all ages, however, supervise children until certain that they know what they are doing and can operate it safely alone. Any sewing machine is dangerous and can quickly injure fingers or cause eye injury from flying pieces of broken needles. That being said this is a safe machine and I believe that children can use it on their own after training, without supervision and proper precautions. There are two speeds so you can take it slow and easy in the beginning. It doesn't have the power of my Brother embroidery combo, but I wouldn't expect it to for the price. This is a set complete enough that all you need to add are the pins, the pattern, the material, and the dressmaking sheers. It includes threads in basic useful colors, many preloaded bobbins, seam ripper, small clipping scissors, a tape measure, a few buttons, a needle threader, 5 needles, and a thimble. The foot pedal is small but quite easy to use. The power cord is long enough to plug in from a desk or worktable. There are a few adjustments for seam width. The hand crank on the side allows you to move forward or backstitch slowly. It is a typical and easy threading pattern. The thread is held securely and doesn't slip off. This is a good value for the price, and you get a really good set. It will last a long time with proper cleaning and maintenance.

Excellent machine for this price range. It comes with everything you need to operate it. The manual itself isn't all that helpful if you're a complete beginner. However, if you browse the internet, you shouldnt have a problem learning how to properly operate it. It performs well for light fabrics. It is much faster than hand sewing. However, reconsider if you're purchasing for professional work or for use on heavy fabric.

It's a useable novelty. Comes in handy for small projects, rather than hauling out the big machine. Hemming will be a breeze. Comes with lots of extra bobbins & threads. Very noisy, but works good.
