  • Very smooth
Style: New Model: CS5055
Really great machine. It’s super smooth and has lots of great decorative stitches. It makes my old Singer model look and feel like a toy. Really great value, and very easy to use so would be great for beginners to work with as well.

Its a simple machine. Has no has no needle position to the right. Needle stops in down position so you have to hand crank it. Nothing on keyboard to change that. Has plenty of stitches. Runs well. Bobbin easy to handle. Light weight to carry.

  • Better than (Famous Brand Name)
Style: New Model: CS5055
I needed to design and make the perfect outfit for meeting my brother that I never knew I had. I figured I could get a Brother, to help me meet my brother. Now dear reader, I thought the computerized component of the Brother CS5055 Computerized Sewing Machine meant that it would make my outfit without any help from me, like a good machine should. But boy was I mistaken. I had to go on Amazon and go to the reviews section of this machine where I read the most life changing review, much like the one you are reading right now. It said, there was a bit of a learning curve, and that's when I knew I was going to have to learn how to actually use it. After four days of continuous researching everywhere this machine was sold, I finally came to the realization that computerized doesn't mean that the robot will do the heavy lifting. It said that I needed to buy my own fabric and learn how to use this sucker like I was a seamstress in the 1800's. Once my research was complete, I took out my old grandmother, Georgina's antique fabrics and started to work. Now I will list out the steps of the sewing process. Step 1: Find you a phone. Step 2: Download the Fivver app. Step 3: Go onto Fivver and look up clothes maker people. Step 4: Locate the most expensive one and purchase their services. Step 5: Sit back and relax as you are getting the coolest outfit ever. Step 6: Enjoy a glass of lemonade while watching your Fivver seamstress use the heck out of your Brother CS5055. Now here's her review of this 5 Star Sewing Device: She says it hums like a chicken on an electric fence. She said it sewed with the speed and precision of Usain Bolt. She said that she dropped it on the way to her house a few times and it didn't even scratch. It was a SOLIDLY made machine. She said the 60 built in stitches made it worth every single one of the 13,400 pennies I spent on it. What a bargain! My Fivver Seamstress lives on the 5th floor of an apartment in Alaska with no elevator and she swears it was no heavier than carrying a baby squirrel. (True story-she does taxidermy on the side. Blame her, not me, vegans.) Overall, great product, even greater outfit, but my actual brother that I met, not even slightly as great as this machine. You win some, you lose some. ... show more

  • Good, but will it last?
Style: New Model: CS5055
I purchased this to replace a very basic machine that I've been using for 40 years. The first thing that I noticed was that this feels light and cheap. It does not feel like this will last 40 years like my old Kenmore did. Everything is plastic, and that's not good. Who makes these decisions? There was a bit of a learning curve for me, moving from a basic machine from 40 years ago to this machine. If the electric nannies don't like what you're doing, it will not sew. I found this out when I forgot to put the presser foot down. The machine did nothing. No beep, just nothing. I eventually noticed a warning icon on the LCD display, apparently "ERROR 1" means "Put the presser foot down, dummy!" and the problem was solved. The handle for the presser foot is plastic and feels cheap. It's not in the traditional location and disappears up into the machine sort of when it's up. It's going to take a lot of adjusting to get used to that. It was not difficult to get started sewing and within a very few minutes out of the box, I was doing just that. It sews well, and I hemmed a pair of pants and ran up the hems on a couple of curtains with no drama and no fuss. BUT! I tried the 03 stitch when repairing the handle on a reusable bag and while it worked as it should on 3 of the 4 handle attachment points, it made a heck of a mess out of the fourth, requiring the thread to be picked off and the job repeated. I have no idea what I did differently that one time, but it was frustrating. The machine sews quickly enough on the standard stitches and even on the specialty stiches that I've tried. It's not the fastest, but my experience has been that sewing fast doesn't always result in good work, so I'm not upset. I honestly don't know how I feel about value for the money. It does what it's supposed to do, and it was not hard to learn how to use it. On the other hand, it feels like I purchased it from the Dollar store. It's light and plasticky and things that truly should be metal, like the presser foot lever or the spool spindle are plastic. Only time will tell how long that stuff is going to last, but I am quite confident that I will not be getting anywhere near 40 years out of this machine. 4 stars for feeling light and cheap and for having important wear items like the spool spindle and the presser foot lever made out of plastic. ... show more
