Third time's a charm! This model, GX37, is a KEEPER - quiet motor, no rattles, smooth operation. Easy to thread, stitches are perfect! Couldn't be happier (knock on wood). I first ordered the Brother XM2701. Had high hopes for it but the bottom stitching was full of loops and pulls. Tried to remedy the problem but the manual was no help at all. Went to youtube for advice, rethreaded the top a few times making sure all was perfect, adjusted the tension but to no avail. Bye-bye XM2701. Second try was the Singer M3300 - clunky, rattly, noisy motor, very hard to turn the hand-wheel (ridiculous), also not the easiest machine to thread but what was most frustrating was the tangled bobbin mess that constantly brought sewing a simple seam to a halt. No rhyme or reason for it. Saw other reviewers mentioning the same problem. Off to Return Land it went. So glad I didn't give up. Happy with Brother GX37 ... show more

Purchased the GX37 machine because it was less expensive than getting my old basic Singer repaired! Amazon apparently combines the reviews for model GX37 and LM2701, although the LM2701 is several years older, has fewer functions, includes fewer accessories, and is $23 more expensive. Seemed liked a no-brainer to go with the cheaper, newer model GX37, which comes with more options and accessories. I am glad I did! I’ve been sewing a long time but usually only basic things—hems, face masks, seam repairs, drapes, etc. Don’t usually use the fancy stitches or make buttonholes. I was able to unpack the GX37, follow the sticker guides right on the machine to thread it and immediately sew a practice seam without reading any instructions or watching the video. It’s pretty easy to figure out if you’ve used a sewing machine before. It comes with a bobbin already threaded and inserted, and with a 90/14 needle (for medium weight fabric) already installed. So all you need to do is thread the top thread and you’re ready to go! The machine produces perfectly “balanced” seams—meaning the tension is perfect with no puckering or pulling. I took some photos to show you. Very easy to use this machine! What I don’t like is minor: (1) The built-in storage compartment at the front of the machine - when you slide it out to remove it, all the stuff inside falls out because it is shaped more like a “bookcase” (open on one side) instead of a “bin”. That is not a handy way of storing extra stuff like bobbins. (2) The LED light is a little too dim. (3) Raising the presser foot feels a little awkward—it’s a plastic lever that flips out to the side. Every machine have ever owned has had a metal lever that flips “up” toward the back of the machine. (4) To change the needle, you need a screwdriver. They provide a dime-sized tool that serves as a screwdriver. To me, that is just something I’ll have to look for when I need to change the needle, and something to lose. It would be better to just turn a knob with your finger to change the needle. Overall, I think this is a great machine at a very reasonable price, and it includes many very nice features including 74 stitch functions and 37 built in stitches. I was so excited about the needle threader, that I immediately did it three times! As I get older and it’s harder to see to thread a needle, that is a VERY HANDY feature indeed! Both models GX37 and XM2701 come with the needle threader. It does not come with a case—but no sewing machine I have ever owned came with one. It fits fine in my old universal sewing machine case. It does come with a dust cover but I can’t see using that because I would probably not leave the sewing machine out. Overall, I am REALLY pleased with this sewing machine. What a great buy, and easy to use with *clearly written* instructions. Thank you BROTHER! UPDATE: I like this sewing machine so much, that when my daughter-in-law said she would like to have a sewing machine for her birthday, I bought her the same one! Awesome little machine! It will take me a while to completely learn all it's functions since I don't use it but once a month but this summer I will need to make some items. This machine does an amazing amount of sewing patterns "For Me". I like that it came not only with a paper manual that I could read and comprehend but it came with a DVD to physically show you how it operates... And in a language I could understand. Singer was my first choice but they won't give you a paper manual or DVD, you have to have access to online broadband to access singers site. All the negative comments and they have gone down hill, letting millions of their users upset. I like my brother Machine and I really would recommend to anyone looking for a cost effective machine that will get the job done. Like a lot of my other purchase reviews, I will return in about a year and give everyone an update. Thank you brother for the fast shipping and a quality product. 👍🏻 ... show more

I purchased this sewing machine 8 months ago. I was brand new at sewing, this was my first time I’ve ever used a sewing machine in my life lol. I had to watch some video tutorials to get started, but I got my machine set up and some basic knowledge from that. It’s been such a great beginner friendly machine, because literally if I can figure it out, I know anyone could! I have made several things and I’m still enjoying learning to sew.
