  • Awesome vacuum, well worth the premium over something like the old Hoover Linx
Color: Lotus White Style: HX1
I've owned this vacuum for about eight months now and I've been very pleased with its performance. This replaced a Hoover Linx, so I'll provide a comparison to that. Cat Litter: First off, the Linx could barely pick up cat litter, and often you'd lift up the vacuum and you'd have a pile of litter left on the floor. The HX1 has no trouble at all with litter. The collection canister: The Linx is very easy to empty, but if you even look at the Linx wrong, the canister is going to fall off the vacuum. The HX1 isn't quite as easy to empty, but I have no complaints about it, not even close to the levels of frustration mentioned by some reviewers. Once you know how it works it's pretty simple. There's no way the HX1 canister can fall off either. Battery: The Linx would give you 10-15min of runtime, but this runtime is at the cost of performance. I'm certain they did this to beat out other vacuums in reviews, but as the battery drains on the Linx, performance is lowered. You can hear the motor start to wind down, especially once you cross the 50% threshold. The last few minutes of power is worthless. The HX1 as far as I can tell does not suffer from this. I've used it for 20 minutes straight on high power and did not notice any loss of performance, and there was still battery left. Clogs: The Linx would clog up all the time. The internal port from the brush head to the canister is tiny, like my pinky finger barely fits in there. As a result, the thing would clog up constantly and I'd have to take it apart and use my shop vac and a screw driver to get it unclogged. I haven't had any issues like this at all with the HX1. Warranty: I haven't had to use the Miele warranty, but there's a dealer close by that's great. This same dealer is a Hoover repair center as well, and the original Linx battery stopped charging about about 10 months. It was super easy to fill out a form on the Hoover web site that then directed me to exchange the battery at said dealer. Ergonomics: The Linx doesn't have any real ergonomic issues, except that it has a hard time standing up on its own without the handle leaning on something. The Miele has no trouble standing, provided you have the motor mounted down low. The Miele allows you to mount the motor up high like a Dyson, or down low like the Linx, and there are trade-offs. If the motor is mounted low, there's no weight on your hands, wrists, and arms have to deal with, but then converting to a handheld is a bit more work. If the motor is mounted up high, it's very simple to switch to the handheld config, but then you have the weight up high. I don't use the Miele as a handheld personally. Brush head: The Linx is ok here, its problem is a lack of suction, but the brush works ok otherwise. The Miele brush is also great, but the automatic floor detection causes it to behave erratically. This the only complaint I have about the Miele HX1. I wish I could flip a switch and have the head run at full power all the time. I would gladly trade battery life for performance. It really only gives me trouble on low pile rugs and wood stairs. On low pile rugs you have to keep the vacuum moving quickly or else the brush head will seize up. On wood stairs, the brush often stops moving and then it'll ramp up to full power. I don't know what's going with that, but I'm sure it's the floor detection not working correctly as I'm lifting the vacuum up and sitting it back down on the next stair. ... show more

  • Quality! Quality! Quality! We Named Her: The White Tornado!
Color: Lotus White Style: HX1
Hello, my name is Tim and I am addicted to vacuuming. Twice a day minimum with a few spot vacuuming as needed. Had two Dyson cordless vacuums over the past 8 years. The last one, V6, had the battery replaced, the long tube and the motor separated from the canister a few weeks ago. Thought I would get a Dyson V10.I realized I was on the Dyson upgrade merry go round. One cheaply made product that falls apart and fails after 12-18 months so I have to buy the next model. SOUND FAMILIAR? Did some research and choose the Meile. What I like: Suction is very good. We have 95% hardwood and marble tile floors. Picks everything up. The occasional kitty kibble needs a second pass, but other than that, it works great. Like that it stands up on it's own. No more looking for a safe place to lean the cordless to move something. Even on the highest power, I am getting 50 - 55 minutes per charge. Battery is easy to replace should I ever need to. Hepa filter is a must for us. Allergies. The dust collector is a plus. While it may be smaller than the Dyson, it is MUCH easier to dump the debris. Quality built machine. We bought a Meile corded vacuum, a Solaris, 18 years ago. Works like it did when it was new. We have a 19 year old Meile dishwasher. Works like new. We also have a Miele side loaded clothes washer that is 14 years old. See the trend? Meile makes quality appliances that last forever. I hope this is the last cordless vacuum we will ever buy. What I don't like: I really wanted a light on the vacuum like some $100 cordless vacuums have. To get one on the Meile you have to get the top of the line model. Since this is the first Meile cordless, I decided to not spend an additional $300 for a light on the machine. Plus, we really like the white color of the base model. It's a little heavier than the Dyson. Could it be because it's built to last? Overall, we are VERY happy with the White Tornado. UPDATE After 3 months, the battery died. I called Miele, was put on hold for 42 minutes, and the reluctantly acknowledged the battery was under warranty and they would ship one out to me. IN MARCH! At least a month out! The "Customer service" person question me and accused me of probably not properly charging the battery when I bought the product. Really? I followed instructions and it worked for 3 months. Miele does not have batteries but Amazon does. Miele has new products to sell why can't they pull a battery from a new vacuum? Beware! Update the replacement battery came. Does not charge. Worked for less than a minute. TOTAL JUNK!!!!!!!!!!!!! So Miele sent a replacement battery to me. Todays interaction: ustin from Miele called. He was very nice and informative. Explained that I may have overcharged the battery. Never heard of this and do not know if that is actually possible? I went through he refreshing of the battery as directed. After 30 minutes, as directed, I tested the vacuum. Worked for 30 seconds and died. Put charging cord back into the battery for 2 hours as directed. Kept flashing in the bottom cell and never moved to the middle or top cell.Justin claims if this does not work, it may be the charging cord or I may have to go to a Miele service center. I am not Miele’s service and delivery boy. I left Justin a message on his phone. This machine stoped working after two months! I DEMAND a replacement. I would ask for a refund if possible, however, AMAZON said it’s not. To date I have spent more time trying to get this fixed than I have using the product. ... show more
