  • Awesome vacuum, well worth the premium over something like the old Hoover Linx
I've owned this vacuum for about eight months now and I've been very pleased with its performance. This replaced a Hoover Linx, so I'll provide a comparison to that. Cat Litter: First off, the Linx could barely pick up cat litter, and often you'd lift up the vacuum and you'd have a pile of litter left on the floor. The HX1 has no trouble at all with litter. The collection canister: The Linx is very easy to empty, but if you even look at the Linx wrong, the canister is going to fall off the vacuum. The HX1 isn't quite as easy to empty, but I have no complaints about it, not even close to the levels of frustration mentioned by some reviewers. Once you know how it works it's pretty simple. There's no way the HX1 canister can fall off either. Battery: The Linx would give you 10-15min of runtime, but this runtime is at the cost of performance. I'm certain they did this to beat out other vacuums in reviews, but as the battery drains on the Linx, performance is lowered. You can hear the motor start to wind down, especially once you cross the 50% threshold. The last few minutes of power is worthless. The HX1 as far as I can tell does not suffer from this. I've used it for 20 minutes straight on high power and did not notice any loss of performance, and there was still battery left. Clogs: The Linx would clog up all the time. The internal port from the brush head to the canister is tiny, like my pinky finger barely fits in there. As a result, the thing would clog up constantly and I'd have to take it apart and use my shop vac and a screw driver to get it unclogged. I haven't had any issues like this at all with the HX1. Warranty: I haven't had to use the Miele warranty, but there's a dealer close by that's great. This same dealer is a Hoover repair center as well, and the original Linx battery stopped charging about about 10 months. It was super easy to fill out a form on the Hoover web site that then directed me to exchange the battery at said dealer. Ergonomics: The Linx doesn't have any real ergonomic issues, except that it has a hard time standing up on its own without the handle leaning on something. The Miele has no trouble standing, provided you have the motor mounted down low. The Miele allows you to mount the motor up high like a Dyson, or down low like the Linx, and there are trade-offs. If the motor is mounted low, there's no weight on your hands, wrists, and arms have to deal with, but then converting to a handheld is a bit more work. If the motor is mounted up high, it's very simple to switch to the handheld config, but then you have the weight up high. I don't use the Miele as a handheld personally. Brush head: The Linx is ok here, its problem is a lack of suction, but the brush works ok otherwise. The Miele brush is also great, but the automatic floor detection causes it to behave erratically. This the only complaint I have about the Miele HX1. I wish I could flip a switch and have the head run at full power all the time. I would gladly trade battery life for performance. It really only gives me trouble on low pile rugs and wood stairs. On low pile rugs you have to keep the vacuum moving quickly or else the brush head will seize up. On wood stairs, the brush often stops moving and then it'll ramp up to full power. I don't know what's going with that, but I'm sure it's the floor detection not working correctly as I'm lifting the vacuum up and sitting it back down on the next stair. ... show more

  • Definitely THE BEST cordless hard-floor & carpet vacuum you can get. Not great as a handheld.
Obviously we all have to start with comparisons to the current reigning champion of premium cordless vacuums: Dyson. I've used the V8, V10 and V11 over the last few years and always found that I really liked them as an easy, powerful and comfortable little handheld vac, but was always really disappointed with their floor performance. The Dysons aren't all that comfortable to use with all the weight at the top, and - omg, the worst: you couldn't stand it up. Like you've got to pause your floor vacuuming for some reason needed to pause... what the heck are you supposed to do with it?? You couldn't lean it against anything because it always slid down and crashed. It always ended up just awkwardly sprawled on the floor. Also, non-user replaceable batteries on significant appliances is against my religion. The Miele Triflex is essentially the opposite of the Dysons in all these ways. As a handheld vacuum, it's not comfortable at all because the weight of the battery is out in front of your hand so it feels really heavy and is hard on your wrists. It has SWAPABLE BATTERIES! Have a big place? Get two batteries. You're buying an $8,273 vacuum... you can afford another $60 for a second battery. But God Almighty is the floor experience on this thing AMAZING. Put it in the configuration with the suction unit at the bottom under the extension tube.... AND IT STANDS UP. Like, on its own! Just like a regular upright! Push it around, and if you need to stop, stand it up, it snaps into the upright position, and you just do whatever you want. It stands there, waiting patiently (and beautifully - this thing is classy looking) for your return. So let's talk about floor performance then. Miele knows how to make a good floor vacuum. I mean, it's like all they make. The Triflex is no exception. It hugs the floors, sucking up everything. It has these little rubber flange things on the bottom that focus the suction forward and to the sides. It is alarmingly good at sucking up everything right up to the baseboards. And CARPETS. Lordy lord it sounds, feels *and works* just like a big ol' corded upright vacuum. Using patented carpet fairy magic, the bristle brush kicks into high gear automatically when you roll it onto a carpet. The experience is unreal. If you're like me, you will basically never take it out of this floor configuration. The other variations are just not comfortable at all. I doubt you'll ever use them. So it's really a Monoflex. And I guess that's a bit disappointing. Also, who designed the canister removal and emptying system on this? It's rubbish. It's annoying and finicky and dumb and I hate it and I curse Hanz or Franz or Goldilocks or whatever boneheaded engineer came up with it. Still, I love this vacuum. It works perfectly for my home with a mix of concrete floors and carpet. It makes it a simple pleasure to just quickly vacuum up the kitchen or dining room in 30 seconds, any time I want. When your kids are home 24/7 for a whole year and can't go outside without risking immediate death... this will do more for you than your therapist. ... show more

  • Quality! Quality! Quality! We Named Her: The White Tornado!
Hello, my name is Tim and I am addicted to vacuuming. Twice a day minimum with a few spot vacuuming as needed. Had two Dyson cordless vacuums over the past 8 years. The last one, V6, had the battery replaced, the long tube and the motor separated from the canister a few weeks ago. Thought I would get a Dyson V10.I realized I was on the Dyson upgrade merry go round. One cheaply made product that falls apart and fails after 12-18 months so I have to buy the next model. SOUND FAMILIAR? Did some research and choose the Meile. What I like: Suction is very good. We have 95% hardwood and marble tile floors. Picks everything up. The occasional kitty kibble needs a second pass, but other than that, it works great. Like that it stands up on it's own. No more looking for a safe place to lean the cordless to move something. Even on the highest power, I am getting 50 - 55 minutes per charge. Battery is easy to replace should I ever need to. Hepa filter is a must for us. Allergies. The dust collector is a plus. While it may be smaller than the Dyson, it is MUCH easier to dump the debris. Quality built machine. We bought a Meile corded vacuum, a Solaris, 18 years ago. Works like it did when it was new. We have a 19 year old Meile dishwasher. Works like new. We also have a Miele side loaded clothes washer that is 14 years old. See the trend? Meile makes quality appliances that last forever. I hope this is the last cordless vacuum we will ever buy. What I don't like: I really wanted a light on the vacuum like some $100 cordless vacuums have. To get one on the Meile you have to get the top of the line model. Since this is the first Meile cordless, I decided to not spend an additional $300 for a light on the machine. Plus, we really like the white color of the base model. It's a little heavier than the Dyson. Could it be because it's built to last? Overall, we are VERY happy with the White Tornado. UPDATE After 3 months, the battery died. I called Miele, was put on hold for 42 minutes, and the reluctantly acknowledged the battery was under warranty and they would ship one out to me. IN MARCH! At least a month out! The "Customer service" person question me and accused me of probably not properly charging the battery when I bought the product. Really? I followed instructions and it worked for 3 months. Miele does not have batteries but Amazon does. Miele has new products to sell why can't they pull a battery from a new vacuum? Beware! Update the replacement battery came. Does not charge. Worked for less than a minute. TOTAL JUNK!!!!!!!!!!!!! So Miele sent a replacement battery to me. Todays interaction: ustin from Miele called. He was very nice and informative. Explained that I may have overcharged the battery. Never heard of this and do not know if that is actually possible? I went through he refreshing of the battery as directed. After 30 minutes, as directed, I tested the vacuum. Worked for 30 seconds and died. Put charging cord back into the battery for 2 hours as directed. Kept flashing in the bottom cell and never moved to the middle or top cell.Justin claims if this does not work, it may be the charging cord or I may have to go to a Miele service center. I am not Miele’s service and delivery boy. I left Justin a message on his phone. This machine stoped working after two months! I DEMAND a replacement. I would ask for a refund if possible, however, AMAZON said it’s not. To date I have spent more time trying to get this fixed than I have using the product. ... show more

  • Nearly perfect for a small apartment
This is a wonderful vacuum. For starters, the design is beautiful. So much more grown up, understated and elegant than the Dyson counterparts — which look like action figure guns. This is, of course, subjective, but design matters, and Meile come through with classic understated german design sensibility. Aside from the looks, it's a very well thought out machine. The multiple configurations make it very versatile for every nook and cranny in your home. For me, I usually leave it configured with the motor lower to the ground, which makes it very easy to handle and allows the vacuum to stand upright on its own. This is great for storage as well when moving furniture around the house during vacuuming. Last but not least, suction power is incredible and it agitates the fibers in my carpet well, restoring the nap on even the most heavily trafficked areas. The lowest setting is light enough for throw rugs and mats, too. And, the battery power is good for two or three thorough vacuumings of my small apartment. Only complaints: – There's no quick charge for the battery. If it dies, it will require a good amount of time before it's able to be used. – After a few weeks the joints loosened up. Not bad, and the slack has stabilized. But still it doesn't have quite the same tightness as when it was new. – The waste canister is small. You have to empty it often, and emptying it is a bit of a pain. Dust gets lodged and I often need to use my fingers to get some of the fuzzy bits out. Plus, the dusty waste wants to stick to the soft touch plastics around the canister. – It makes a big loud "pop" noise when putting it in the upright position. Sounds like it's breaking, but this appears to be normal. I hope this doesn't loosen over time. That's it. The gripes really aren't a big deal, and I imagine they are things they'll solve in the next generation. This is a great vacuum for a small apartment. It's very powerful, very versatile, and very nice to look at. ... show more

  • This is pretty good
I got the base model, in white. I've been a Miele vacuum fan for years, owning a cannister and the older stick style vacuum they no longer make. The stick vacuum died after 16 years of almost daily use. I may try to repair it. The cannister is still going well, and is my heavy duty cleaner. I looked hard at all the cordless choices out there, compared reviews, specs and features. All brands and models will have issues for certain buyers and their expectations. I decided to go with a brand that had been reliable for me and other family members. Opening the box, assembly was rather intuitive and easy. Just choose the configuration that you like. I prefer the motor head lower, so it stands up on its own, something most the others can't do, and a big deal for me. But it is very easy to change around. I haven't decided if I will install the charging/storage cradle in my utility room or not yet. For now just plugging the charger into the battery will be fine. Initial vacuuming, this thing sucks.....up a lot of stuff. I was very pleased how it did with my medium pile carpet. It even leaves the nice "vacuum" marks on the carpet. I've found the highest power setting does the trick on the carpet. For the floors, the medium setting does just fine. When I finished the downstairs the lint cup was full. I was amazed of how much it picked up. Yeah emptying it is a bit messy, but I do it into my kitchen trash that has a liner. Bu t dust wasn't going all over etc. Bags are not cheap and I prefer this so far. Does it hold a lot? Maybe not as much as others but so be it, again I was using bags before and bags aren't cheap. I like that it fits all my other Miele attachments so far (extensions and bushes etc). The best being my Micro tools I use for the car. No more lugging out a corded vac to clean the car. This is a very big plus for me. Is it super noisy? No. I saw some reviews say it's louder. Compared to my old stick vac and Cannister it is not that loud to me. Maybe it's louder because it had such good suction? Overall, it looks nice, performs well. I'll update this more after using it for a few months (durability, battery life etc). This looks to be a good unit for the day to day touch ups and normal cleaning duties. I have a two story townhouse and it may be enough for cleaning both floors at the same time, though I rarely vacuum both floors the same day.... But so far, I like this. Update it works great on my medium pile carpet. Really get stuff out and leaves it looking like it was vacuumed by a bigger machine. Really using this as my go to vacuum now. ... show more

  • Great, not perfect
Upgraded to 5 stars, June 30, 2021. I’ve used this for over a month now - the dust bin clean-out problem is solved by twisting the top to ‘nine o’clock’ and fully pulling out the filter, preferably over a deep garbage can. I’ve gotten used to manually plugging in the cord, and the unit’s weight has advantages, adding heft to the lower canister position, which is great for pile rugs. We love this high-quality, well thought-out vacuum. Original review: We have a 1,300 sq.ft. apartment in New York and need a light, grab and go model with a small footprint. We've had a Miele canister in the past, but there's no way we'll ever go back to storing such a clunker, winding and unwinding the cord, putting all the pieces together then breaking them down, bending up and down to plug it in, and lugging the whole thing around. Over the years, we've gone through 2 Ergorapidos (Electrolux) and 1 B&D, all good in their own ways, but not built to last, sadly. The Triflex is much heavier and more difficult to clean out, but the suction and filtration are far superior. It's not as svelte as the Ergorapido; the cradle is unusable, as it protrudes and takes up more real estate than it should. That means you have to reach around the back every time to feel for the hole to plug it in; and the cord just lies around. So, the Triflex really falls between a spot-check model and a full-blown plug-in on the ease-of-use vs. power continuum. It depends what your priorities are. We have a Makita model for quick pickups (excellent!), and use the Miele for relatively hassle-free rug cleaning. ... show more

  • Disappointing
This stick vacuum appears frequently on "best" reviews. Maybe it is Miele's PR department in action. Or maybe I just expected too much from a cordless stick vacuum, although I've had much respect for Miele's quality in the past. And I retired my old Dyson corded vacuum. In any case I just returned the Miele vacuum after discovering some small and large flaws in my opinion: For instance, it was extremely difficult to empty the quick-to-fill-up, small volume debris container. A real deal breaker. Stuff gets deep into the filter area. It's a dirty operation. Easily turning the "TwistToOpen" dust container is wishful thinking. My wife could not do it at all. So much for the ease of a cordless vacuum. The wider "electrobrush" touted as covering more area...usually does not fit easily between spaces. A small criticism but question what the benefit is, besides being heavier. Also, adjusting to different floor levels (carpet, hardwood etc.) just doesn't happen, you have to lift the vacuum to hop from tile to carpet for instance. In the lifting process, a bit of previously vacuumed debris which apparently is held in the electrobrush empties out onto the floor. In order to vacuum under chairs and beds, you need to reassemble the business end of the vacuum higher up on the handle, which is not small feat. And in that mode, the vacuum does not stand up on its own. At level ONE power the vacuum is fine for picking up dust, but you have to move to level TWO ot THREE to suck up anything of any weight. Also, I found level THREE is the only power stage strong enough to seriously vacuum a carpet or rug pile, evidenced by the tracks left. Unfortunately, operating on level THREE cuts vacuum time drastically before the vacuum needs to be recharged. Another peculiar feature: When the vacuum is fully charged, the charge light goes OUT...several times I had to check my electrical outlet to see if it was faulty. When I pull the plug and re-insert it into the wall outlet, the Miele light goes on...it was confusing. I also was surprised to discover the model I ordered had no HEADLIGHT, which is critical to see where the dust is. I have a Chinese stick vacuum I bought for less than $100 that lights up everything in its path. Guess I just assumed the Miele had one after seeing the picture on line with the headlight lit. Like I said earlier, maybe I expected too much from a cordless stick vacuum for almost $500. ... show more

I LOVE this! It is liking driving a plush new minimalistic, efficient, top of the line performance car after driving a used beater for the last 40 years. Light, sturdy, powerful and handy. Runs quite a while on a single charge. The engineers of this should be proud. I use it like a broom for my hardwood and tile floors. I take it outside to clean the rv. I use it to clean the furniture. The car is next. The quietest, cleanest, easiest. If I had one suggestion, it would be better instructions for first use (emptying, reconfiguring, etc).
