I shopped long and hard while researching like a madwoman before purchasing this vacuum. My vacuum cleaner journey has been a hard one and fraught with disaster and disappointment. But I finally took the plunge and bought the Classic C1 cat and dog canister vacuum from Miele. This vacuum does NOT disappoint! It will suck your soul out of your body if you get too close to the end of the nozzle!! I hate carpet, but my house came with it and it’s really expensive to replace, so we make do with what we have to. Previously, I would shampoo my carpet and would have to stop frequently to clean my bissel shampooer because it would get clogged by pet hair and dirt left behind by my old vacuum. Not any more! The only time I stop now is to refill the water tank and empty the full dirty water tank. I actually enjoy vacuuming now. It picks up everything! I was also amazed at how quiet it was compared to my old vacuum cleaner. The cats still hate it, but they’ll actually stay in the room until I get close to them. My only complaint, is a common one that I saw while researching. The length of the power cord is a little bit on the short side. I wish it was about 2-3 feet longer. The ability to expand the length of the wand helps make up for it. The wand is a little on the heavy side. But it’s metal, so it’ll last forever and I’m not going to complain about that. I love having a canister vacuum that uses a bag. It contains the dirt and dust and is super easy to change out. I would give 6 stars if I could!

I have had this vacuum for about a month, and bought it to replace a Dyson DC41 Animal. I am owner of a couple dogs, and primarily bought this as the Dyson was not able to pull fur off surfaces in just one pass - the beater bar never seemed to cut the mustard. I learned that I do not like the suction-driven beater bars, and wanted an electric one. The Miele does as designed. I am super happy with it, and am able to clean dog fur off any surfaces after one pass, two at most if it's really bad. The adjustable head height makes it easy to find that perfect medium. I do like the fact I don't have to empty a cannister after every time I use it, meaning I use it more often. PROS: - The suction doesn't fool around. I think it's got a bit more than the Dyson at max setting. It's adjustable, which is really nice when dealing with loose rugs. Something the Dyson couldn't manage. (Even with the little pull trigger) - The electric beater bar is adjustable, heavy enough to stay in place, and does the trick. Also you can turn it on and off at will, instead of fussing with a suction trigger like the Dyson, that took a dozen tries sometimes. - It is QUIET. The first time you turn it on, I guarantee you will hit the button twice. It ramps up slowly. At max setting, it is still quieter than most vacuums I have used. At Eco, I could easily hold a conversation - and I have hearing loss. - The electric head weighs more than the cannister. Which is GOOD, as it makes the part you tug around lightweight. - All the accessories - ALL OF THEM - fit on the cannister and have their own homes. Even the hardwood floor brush. - Replacement bags (If you are buying OEM) come with replacement motor filters. CONS - - The cord is a little short. I felt this when going from the Dyson. - The beater bar head does not allow you to get under a bed or furniture as much as the Dyson does. You cannot lay it completely flat. (I miss this!) - Miele really screwed up when it comes to the wheels on this thing. On hardwood, it's fine. On carpet higher than berber, you will pull the cannister onto its side sometimes. It does not swivel well. I WOULD give it a 3/5 for Maneuverability, except the cannister is so light, you can just nudge it over with your foot, no big deal. 3.5/5 ? Overall, I am very happy with this purchase. It was a high price to pay, but not having to be frustrated was worth it. I could swear my carpets look better for half the effort.

I have had a Miele vacuum for 20 years. It is still working well but I need to get a new powerhead because it's so clogged with debris. Motor is still working great though. I took a leap of faith and decided you know what I'll just buy a new one, I figured I'll get the cat and dog C1 because it's supposed the most powerful and the best for all surfaces including carpets. Well let me tell you the minute it arrived I submitted a return. For one, it was missing a part. Secondly, the electro plus head is extremely heavy and has the same level of power as my original power Plus head. I was shocked. More bulk, more weight, more difficult to maneuver, but same level of suction that the original power Plus head had. They do not make vacuums like they used to just like they don't make a lot of things like they used to. I do not like this electric line and now I have decided I will buy parts that fit my original vacuum instead. Or I will purchase a regular non-electric new one which is under $400 instead of almost $700 and I will use the old attachment head on it. So so disappointed. I just can't say it enough. They should have kept the original line of vacuums and they could have added more attachments but this electric line sucks. Update: I ended up purchasing the miele C1 pure suction. This is different from the other C ones because it has the different attachment head specifically for rugs. The pure suction is amazing and works wonderfully. Way less bulk than the cat and dog electric one, much lighter and easier to maneuver and has just as good suction capabilities. Very very happy with the C1 pure suction!!! Also I will add that you can also purchase the mini turbo head and it is amazing. It's smaller, has incredible section, and can get into smaller spaces.

UPDATE - 8/18/20 - 2 months post purchase - the STB20 Mini Turbo Brush attachment broke today. See photos. There is a sleeve that attaches to the main head and tabs hold the sleeve on, and thus the attachment in place. 3 out of the 4 tiny tabs appear to have broken off. This is with limited use at this is not one of the attachments I use the most. Perhaps it was shipped broken and I didn’t notice it until it was completely loose? I only found one of the three tiny tabs that snapped off and that one was inside the head itself and fell out upon opening it. I am on hold waiting to talk to someone from Miele now and it’s been 25 minutes already... Sigh... This vacuum is my first Miele purchase. I had been using Panasonic vacuums for years, despite their shortcomings, because they had Hepa filtration and a powerful bypass motor for serious suction. When I started my search for a replacement Hepa filter vac, I found that Shark and Bissell seem to dominate the current market. The Bissell’s are underpowered, the Sharks have a trade-off of dirt cup size vs. power. More power = smaller dirt cup size. I also have always had upright vacuums. Since my home has both stairs and varied surfaces, I broadened my search to include canister vacs. In the canister vac market, Miele is a very pricey leader. While some of my pet owning friends are fans of Shark vacs, many were also fans of Miele vacs. I decided on the Miele C1 Cat and Dog based on the price point which got me what I wanted, which is a Hepa Filtration Vacuum as strong or stronger than the old Panasonic (which was 12 Volt), with the electric rotating roller vacuum head attachment (Model SEB228) and a decent filter bag volume capability. PROs - for this model -Hepa Filtration with Odor Control via AirClean bags (it works, will see if it odor control lasts until the bag is full) -Hepa Filter Replacement - easy snap in and Miele says replace once per year (again will see if it lasts that long) -Powerful yet Quiet (use of the SEB228 roller head is louder, but still very quiet for a vacuum) -Maneuverability 1. The sloping (<3” to max height 4.5” height of the SEB228 gets under more furniture. 2. The swivel head on the SEB228 helps get into corners and hard to reach places. 3. Canister vac design allows for easier vacuuming of stairs. -On Board Attachment Holder - allows easy access to 3 smaller included attachments (Upholstery nozzle Crevice nozzle and Dusting brush), but not the Small Parquet Floorhead SBB Parquet-3 or the Flexible Handheld Mini Turbo Brush STB 20. -Foot Buttons on SEB228 for Handle Release and Pile Height are easy to access and use. -Telescoping Wand - up to 43” max added distance when fully extended; comfortable for all heights of users and able to reach into far corners both high and low. -SEB 228 On-Wand Power Switch - easily accessible, yet not positioned to inadvertently be clicked allows you to quickLy switch from motor for carpet/rug to no motor for bare floors. -Variety and Capability of Included Attachments CONs - for this model - Bulky - the canister itself is small (18” x 11” x 8.5”), however then there is the storage of the wand + SEB228 (14” x 8.5“x 4.5”) which has a total height of 41.5”, not to mention the 2 attachments that cannot reside on board. Unlike any vacuum I have owned prior, the hose is rigid and not collapsible, making it take up even more space, and there is not attachment included to tame it. In my small home this is a HUGE Con. -Power Button, Cord Rewind Buttons and Selector Dial on Canister - the placement of all of these is on the bottom of the canister when the vacuum sits upright, requiring more bending over and turning of the unit. -Lack of rubber, non-mark leaving, bumper guards on either canister or, more importantly, the SEB228. -Lack of telescoping (or other) canister handle extender - the canister handle, when upright, is About 8” or so from my hand when I am standing upright, so you will need to stoop over to reach for it to move the vac as you vac. I purchased a 5” nylon luggage handle extender (less $ at Wal*mart). Hope it fits (hasn’t arrived yet). -Tippability of the canister - because you have to stoop to reach the canister handle, you are going to be tempted to pull the vac around by the hose instead which adds hose to canister attachment stress on the unit and also causes the canister to be more tippable. -More Filters to Change - air entry and exhaust filters for the engine require replacement with every bag change; replacement filters are included with the bags, but not in the same quantity (fewer than the number of bags). ADEQUATE (but could be better) -Cord length (18’ length) - I didn’t find myself wishing I had purchased a vacuum with a longer cord so would not switch from this model to another based on the cord, but having this vac with the longer cord would, of course, be better. -Attachment storage - I wish there was a way to store all 5 attachments on board with the three smaller on top as they are and the two larger inside like the C3 models. I don’t like that the 2 bulkier attachments cannot be stored with the unit. NICETY, not Necessity -Bag Change Indicator - maybe I will appreciate this more in the long run, shall see. I haven’t had one previously and likely changed bags more frequently than the indicator may indicate anyway. The indicator is in a good spot, right on top of the vacuum; hard to miss. -Cord flexibility - I like the cord itself better than my prior vacuums. Plus, with the canister vac it is easier to keep the cord out of your way while you are vacuuming. With an upright I usually wound up holding it to work around potential snags and avoid it popping out of the cord holder anyway. IN SUMMARY -. I LOVE how quiet yet powerful the Miele is. So far, it vacuums VERY well on low pile carpet, large area rugs, wood floors, stairs and laminate. This, plus the easy pushing of the, lighter than an upright vac, wand, make vacuuming easier. I like the performance of the included attachments. I like the telescoping wand. I prefer bags to bagless, had a Hepa Filter as a “must-have”, and wanted a large dirt accumulation capacity before needing to empty the cup / change the bag; this meets those criteria too. It did, however, take several days for me to like this vacuum. Right out of the box, I was annoyed by its overall bulkiness when assembled. In continued use, I am still unhappy with the placement of the power button and the floor type dial and inability to easily reach the top of the canister to move it. Both power button and dial should be on top of the canister when upright, not the bottom. Then canister handle should be made to be more accessible. The inability to tame the hose is an annoyance. I expect these to be non-issues when paying a premium price to a company engineering vacs as many years as Miele. This vacuum is expensive. The Miele warranty is ok, but not really that long for this price. Responsiveness of Miele customer service remains to be seen (poor Customer Service reviews were one of my turn-offs for Shark brand). For this price, I expect to not need to find out for a long time. If the Miele C1 Cat and Dog vacuum performs for over 14 years requiring only basic, at-home maintenance, then it will have surpassed my prior Panasonic vacuums, which cost about $140 each and commonly lasted 3 years (there was one part that continually broke each time resulting in the inability to use the vac as a push vac as vac would no longer remain upright for storage or maintain floor distance height). Speaking of maintenance, I cannot comment on the difficulty of changing any vacuum belts for this vac at this time since it is new and I haven’t even tried to figure out where it is yet. It is also worthy to note, I attempted to register this vac on the Miele website and (1) as of 6/19/20 this part of the website appears to be down as you wind up in a circular loop that doesn’t take you anywhere to register. I tried several links, none worked. (2) BEFORE you purchase a Miele vacuum, be sure to verify the seller is a Miele Authorized Dealer. This Amazon seller, Sara’s Vac Shack, IS on the Miele Authorized Dealer list (see pic). Purchase from an unauthorized dealer voids the product warranty. A Miele vacuum dealer on another site says the most common reason they have to service a Miele is for the hose, which on an electric model like this one costs about $125. He recommends never storing the vacuum with the hose attached to the wand as the gravitational stress on the hose will, over time, cause it to crack. As time proceeds, if I discover any more notable points I will update this review. As of right now, less than a week into ownership, I will keep it, despite its drawbacks, with the expectation of Miele Quality and that they will stand behind their product.

I've used my C1 Cat and Dog now for a couple of weeks and I'm loving it! Easy to move around with 3 wheels vs 4 and ggrrreat cleaning!!! So much quieter too!! The only thing I see negative are 2 things. The Wand. It's a lot heavier than the plastic one I had on my 35 yr+ (?) old Eletrolux and it makes sense as it's metal. Sturdy. Doing overhead work, I need use both hands now to maneuver. All the wires are encased which was not so on the Elextrolux and would occasionally unplug. Pain in the ars. I had to replace my plastic one several times as it was dropped or rolled downstairs and cracked. So with that, I'm glad it's metal. I will build muscles. The other thing is the handle on the hose which I do like, but it should of been made smaller for a woman's hand. (Don't the engineers consult with the people who will be mostly using it?) This is the only thing I don't really like. The diff between the C1 & C3 Cat & Dog that I remember is, length of the electrical cord (C3 6' longer), 3 attachments go inside the C3 so it's larger and heavier vs C1 which are stored on top, bumpers around the canister on the C3 (would be a nice feature to have on the C1), some dials or something on C3 and I think that was all. So for several hundred $$$ more for those, I choose the C1. I can live without them. The power head swivels so effortlessly! This is FANTASTIC! My old one didn't. Arg. Easy peasy vacuuming now. There is a toggle button on the handle to turn it on or off which I find so convenient. Oh, the hair cleaning attachment is a little smaller on the C1, but that's ok. It works pretty good too. No more getting a glove on and wiping and wiping hair into a pile to suck up. These are great attachments!!! My new little friend follows me so easily around the house. Turns on a dime. The only thing with the C1 and not the C3 is that it can tip over. It's happened to me 2x and I think it's when I'm turning it coming off carpeting to wood flooring. I just have to watch it when I do so. No big deal. Stairs. Mind are wood. C1 is light enough for me to carry as I go (much lighter than the Electrolux, but it was old) and the older I get this is becoming important. You can buy a cheaper vacuum that performs good also, but they will be replaced in 5 years or so. I'm expecting this beauty to last 2 decades or more without issues. So I'm lovin' vaccing the house!!! I just wonder when the honeymoon will be over! :-)

Why did you pick this product vs others?: Such a great vacuum with very few negatives. Pros: The suction is adjustable so it works equally well on low-pile throw rugs (low) and hard wood floors (high). It consistently cleans the floor well with a single pass. The bag lasts a long time (even with a long-haired dog). The turbo attachment works great for the sofa and stairs. The hard floor attachment cleans well and picks up all dish and fur. I used to have to go over floor with swiffer before washing, but no more. Cons: Works on shag carpet, but you have to run the handle parallel to the floor or it will trip the power head off. The power cord is SHORT so I have to attach an extension cord every time I vacuum. The power head is adjustable (height) but it’s very sticky. I plan to take it to a vacuum shop while still under warranty to get it fixed.

This is a really well constructed machine. The vacuum capabilities definitely won’t disappoint so why did I give it just 3 stars? (A) It cleans well. Well, not life changing. Marketing has this vacuum so over hyped that if you watch any internet review you will feel let down by its actual capabilities. (B) Weight… again, over hyped. This is not what I would call heavy however as a late 30’s individual who goes to the gym daily and takes my “vitamins” I am here to tell you this vacuum is NOT light. Is it lighter than an upright? Probably not when you add all the weight together. Is it heavy no but there is no way I would expect my mother to carry this as an assembly up stairs on a regular basis. (C) Ease of use. My hose kinks and coils on myself but I suspect that will correct itself as the swivel joints wear in a bit but as of today it makes using the machine a chore. (D) Value… I bought this on sale for just under $700 with a regular cost of $1100+… Keeping in mind that likely 15% of the purchase cost, roughly $100 is for tariff would lead me to believe this would be a $600 machine and for $600 it may be ok but in reality this is a $400 to $500 plastic chassis with no real value other than it is not made in China. Would I buy it again. No. Will I keep it. No. It will be returned. Had this machine not been so overhyped I wouldn’t feel so disappointed and I’d likely have kept it.

I've had Mieles, Dysons, Hoovers, you name it. My favorite is and always has been Miele. My expectations for this vaccum were high, having used them in the past. This is my first new Miele in about a decade so I was excited to see the updates that had been made. The construction is light weight, but well made. A little more plastic than earlier models, but it all seems durable. The Pros: Suction - with adjustable settings it has the power for any job. On a low setting it is safe for curtains, duvet covers, furniture. On a high setting it has the ability to suck your curtains clean off the wall. Obviously you won't use the high setting there - just to illustrate a point. Quiet - especially for the amount of power and suction that this vaccum contains. Maneuverable - The power head is a little larger than I'm used to so it doesn't fit under quite as many ledges. It does hoever have very flexible joints so laying the handle flat and vacuuming at angles is a breeze. Pet Brush - The turbobrush is great for cleaning dog hair off of furniture. I've also been using it on a low suction setting to clean pine needles off of our chirstmas tree skirt. It does clog easily when using it to clean up pine needles - but it is not the use it was intended for. It is easy to open and clean and return to use. Cons Short Cord - as many have mentioned the power cord is just a little too short. I have a 2 bedroom apartment and I'm used to being able to use a central outlet to service the entire area. Unfortunately this cord comes up just a little too short. another 5 feet would have made all the diffference. Almost too light - The base of the vaccum is so light that it tips over on its 3 wheel base. This is really only an issue when pulling out the power cord as the base will become off balance. It's a minor inconvenience at worst and probably doesn't bother most people.
