Bought this to try out a hobby I'd been curious about for a while. The beach near us always has people losing stuff in the sand, so I figured that was a good place to start. Setup took me maybe two minutes and I didn't need any tools, just twisted the stem to my height and folded the armrest into place. First time out I mostly dug up bottle caps and foil, but once I switched to the disc mode it started ignoring most of the junk. About an hour in I got a clean solid tone and pulled up a woman's wedding band buried a few inches down. The pinpoint mode made it way easier to zero in instead of digging a giant hole. The screen showing target ID and depth actually helped me decide what was worth digging for. A few months later it's still holding up. I've taken it in shallow water at the shoreline and the coil handles it fine, though I'm careful to keep the control box dry since that part isn't fully waterproof. The included shovel and backpack are decent enough that I didn't have to go buy extras. One small thing, the headphones feel a little cheap and I ended up using my own earbuds instead. I bought this BOXTREN metal detector because apparently I’ve reached the stage of life where wandering around the yard waving a giant electronic stick sounds like a perfectly reasonable Saturday afternoon. 😂 Setup was surprisingly easy, and the large 12.8" coil covers a lot of ground. The LCD screen is easy to read, the different detection modes are handy, and the pinpoint function definitely helps narrow down where to start digging. The waterproof coil is also a big plus for beach trips and wet grass. It’s worth remembering that the coil is waterproof, not the control box, so don’t go full submarine with it. The best part? Finding something buried instantly turns you into an archaeologist. Finding a rusty bottle cap turns you into someone who suddenly has very strong opinions about recycling. 👍 Pros - Large 12.8" search coil covers plenty of ground - Easy to assemble and use - Clear backlit LCD display - Multiple detection modes - Waterproof coil for beaches and wet conditions - Adjustable and comfortable to swing - Comes with useful accessories - Extremely fun new hobby 👎 Cons - Apparently the ground contains approximately 47 billion pieces of junk metal - Takes a little practice to understand what the detector is telling you - The included shovel is more “starter shovel” than “Indiana Jones” - You may develop an unhealthy obsession with digging random holes Bottom line: This is a really fun detector for beginners and casual treasure hunters. I haven’t retired from my day job yet, but give me a few more weekends and I’m pretty sure I’ll be finding enough buried treasure to make that conversation awkward with my boss. 5 stars. This is a nice unit and works well. Great for a beginner. Used for finding gold in an area known for gold, unfortunately didnt find any. This unit is perfect and dont break the bank when needing a good quality tool for a reasonable price. Gonna operate this weekend at the beach and seeing what treasures I can find ... show more
