Marcy doesn't make the highest quality stuff. Their equipment lacks elegance and refinement. They use cheap plastics, simple (and not entirely accurate) displays, and the craftsmanship doesn't inspire confidence at first glance. At first it seems that the only positive aspect of Marcy equipment is its inexpensiveness, relative to other gym products. But looks and prices are deceiving. This rower is a sturdy, tough, monster. It seemed to be the only magnetic rower on the market and at a reasonable price point. I decided to buy it based on my experience with my Marcy stationary bike (another cheap and sturdy piece of equipment). I put it together within half an hour. When I sat on the rower it felt rickety and strange. I couldn't tell if I was too tall or too short for it. The foot pedals wobbled, the seat glided to easily, and the whole machine felt very strange. But with this product, you aren't paying for a quality, gym experience. No. You want something that works and keeps on working. This rower will do just that. The resistance is adjustable, perhaps a little too light (even on the highest setting). The resistance is magnetic, so it is limited in it's actual ability to resist. But that also means that it will never really lose its resistance. The seat is surprisingly comfortable. The handle bars and digital display get the job done. It folds quite nicely, but seeing as it's over 65 pounds I don't expect to move it around much.     • (Fairly) Easy to assemble, amazingly fun piece of equipment

This is so fun! I would give it five stars, but the assembly instructions left a little to be desired. Here are my added assembly steps: Before starting, gather the following items: Source of music (to reduce frustration), two AA batteries (not included). The instruction book- *None of the pieces are labeled, but you can pretty much figure everything out from the drawings. The nuts/bolts look very similar, but if you count them and look at the parts list, you'll know which is which. * Putting on the pedals can be hellish. I had a lot of trouble getting one on and lined up but the other one was no problem. Here's a tip for you non-experts. Put the washer and screw on one end. This will be the end away from the center. Put the ^%&%$** pedal on the bracket (heel cup on the bottom). Wiggle and push and swear until you get the axle all the way through. Stick your fingers in the teeny tiny space and attach the other washer and screw. Tighten it as much as you can with your fingers. IMPORTANT: Now, put one of the small allen wrenches in the inside (loose) screw and hold it still while you use the other allen wrench to turn it from the other side. It doesn't matter that the outside screw is already in, this will screw the axle onto the inner screw. SO much easier then trying to move the wrench around in the teeny area. (I know, because I did it the hard way first.) * The four holes on the rail go on the bottom. (Yes, I did it wrong at first.) After you attach and tighten the two screws on the top of the seat rail, pull the big pin out, put the rail in vertical position, and put the pin back in. This makes it MUCH easier to put the four screws in the bottom and add the rubber bumpers. Also, attach the other leg/support this way, making sure it's facing the right way. * Put the rail back down. Here's where I had the biggest problem...THERE WERE NO MORE INSTRUCTIONS!!! Maybe I was missing a page. I hope I was missing a page. At this point I have two screws, a seat, two bumpers, and two end caps that are still sitting on the floor. Honestly, it's not THAT hard to figure out what to do, but I really shouldn't have to. So: * Put the seat on FIRST. (Wheels go in the tracks.) Screw the rubber bumpers on just like you did the other ones with the only screws you have left. Stick the end caps in the end. (Funny: These are the only parts that are labeled.). * Open the little door on the back of the computer and put the batteries in. (You could probably do this before you attach the computer, but I left the batteries in the house so I haven't done this part yet.) **** Try it out. Holy crap! This is SO much fun! If you are old (like me) or out of shape (like me) you should make sure not to go overboard or you'll feel it later. PROS: Even with the sometimes lacking assembly instructions, I put this together in less than an hour. TOOLS ARE INCLUDED!! It folds up so it takes slightly less space. CONS: Honestly, the only complaint I have is the instructions. That was annoying, but not a real problem. So far, I would recommend this. Nicole ... show more

    • A good budget rower for a big guy

During the recent quarantine, I ordered this in to start a workout regimen. I have medical conditions that make cardio very difficult, especially with a large belly to work with. After almost two weeks with this machine, here are my quick thoughts. 1) The computer that comes with it is EXTREMELY minimal, and only measures in miles. In rowing communities, everyone focuses on their splits measured in meters, so bear that in mind. It also doesn't have a counter for "strokes per minute," although it does show the total number of strokes in the session. 2) I'm 6'5" with a 34" inseam, and feel like the length of the track is fine for myself, the only difficulty is that the position of the handle at its most retracted (during the "catch"), is too close for comfort. It's not enough to be a problem as I'm still working on my form and gut, but when I am able to reach further, I can see that I would want an Erg like a Concept2, something that has a little more stretch for the arms. 3) I started out just above 300 lbs, and that was a big reason I chose this machine (not to mention the price). It has held up fine to that. 4) It is pretty quiet, definitely quiter than an elliptical or treadmill. But the lubrication it comes with gets worn down and touching it up with lubricant along the seat track helps with that. The noisiest part so far has been the foot pedals. They tend to rattle and squeak a bit in high intensity. The buckle on the strap also bent open while I was tightening.     • I dont like the way it rows at all

I reviewed so many rowers before choosing this one. I regret purchasing this one and here is why, It does not row like the ones in the gym. I don't get the full glide and I feel like I run out of room on the forward movement. It is very quiet, and maybe a shorter person would like it better, but at 5'10" I wish I had chosen a different rower. and OMG, the assembly instructions are pathetic on this. Why cant manufactures spend a few extra bucks and make instructions that are clear and concise. This was like a puzzle. I had to go to you tube for help. ... show more
