I haven’t written a review in Amazon a long time, but for someone who has grays that come in every four weeks and had to spend about average $300 to get professionally graded cause I could not find a box to cover my stubborn grays. this is golden. It covered all my grays. The trick is not to leave it on 35 minutes to do 45. I think I even left it on 50 to make sure you get a shade darker than your natural hair color so I’m medium brown got dark brown covered 100% on my grays this is for a fraction of the cost. I’d pay at a salon and it has such beautiful like a product with it along with shampoo, conditioner, cream for your hair so that you can put around the base of you’re head so you don’t get stained. Very thoughtfully packaged just a long review but you won’t regret getting this for anybody who has stubborn stubborn grays!!!! ... show more

Color: 5NGV - Dark Golden Brown with Warm Tones... Size: 1 Pack
I absolutely LOVE Madison Reed hair-color kits. Easy to use, gentle on hair, no strong odors, doesn't stain skin. My hair is curly, so it is porous. It soaks up the color initially and looks nearly black, but after 5 washes or so, it settles in to a nice warm dark brown. I have bought Madison Reed every 8 weeks for the last 3 years, and I will not use anything else. It's more expensive than typical drug-store products, but well worth the price. Also, if I am only coloring my roots, I can get 2 applications out of one box. I use a digital kitchen scale to make sure I am measuring the product in half precisely. I have quite a bit of gray and this covers it without issue. ... show more

I love the complete kit with everything you need and e-z, ready to use product. The smell of shampoo and conditioner are a beautiful scent. Less harmful chemicals than other brands. Nice shine on the hair when finished. May be a bit higher in price comparable to the other brands but well worth the extra spend. You get what you paid for. :) ... show more

I used Light Golden Red, &7NCG, Genova Red. On the package, the color looked like an exact match for my original hair color. (I have just enough grey, here & there throughout my hair, to want to cover it... for now, anyway. Vanity... right? lol ) I fell in love with Madison Reed's packaging and the thoughtfulness shown in this very complete hair color kit. The messaging in it dazzled me, as well. Using the product, I didn't care for the smell of it, but it wasn't nearly as bad as some ammonia-based hair color products. So far, so good. In addition, I was impressed by how much hair color was included. Even with long, thick hair, I was able to cover everything from the roots to the very longest tips of my hair, and do so completely. The included shampoo and conditioner were both lavish and generous. Again, as someone with very thick hair, this was appreciated. But then, fresh from the shower, I looked in the mirror. Umm... It looked like the color coverage wasn't consistent. Not even close. Worse, when my hair was dry, the color at the top of my head was spectacular, but starting at about ear level, the color was much darker. Indoors, it looks almost black. On someone as fair-skinned as me, the effect was jarring. Suddenly, every freckle and laugh line seemed more obvious. This was NOT flattering. Oddly, the ends of my hair barely took any color at all. That was fine, because naturally colored hair is usually lighter (sun bleached) at the ends. In the accompanying photo, my head is tilted, so I'm looking up. You're seeing the top of my head as well as my back. Also, that picture was taken on a slightly overcast day, so the variations in color aren't due to extreme lighting. It looks far worse indoors, but I think the photo conveys the essense of the problem. Note: It's been a few years since I was a hair model, but I picked up a lot of hair coloring tips from the pros. So, I'm still mindful of the importance of coloring my hair thoroughly and consistently, and following package directions - to the letter - for the best results. In other words, it's not as if I smothered the top of my head with hair dye, and just loosely spread the rest of my hair with far lighter coverage. Likewise, I didn't douse the middle (now darkest) band of my hair with extra color, or omit coloring the ends, either. To me, it looks like this hair color should not be used on long, previously colored hair. I'd ask for a refund if I had anything to return to the seller, but - of course - I used the complete package. So, at best, that was a waste of $30. I'm going to wait a week so my hair has time to recover, and then I'll be using an "oops!" products to remove the Madison Reed hair color. Fingers crossed, it'll restore how my hair looked before using Madison Reed's hair color. (If that doesn't work, Plan B is to streak my hair with blonde. At worst, it'll look "artsy.") I'll agree that the Madison Reed hair color at the top of my head looks exactly as I'd hoped. It's very close to the color shown on the product's packaging. The probem is: The rest of my hair looks awful. If your hair is short - and, preferably, has never been colored before - you may love Madison Reed. For me, this was an extremely distressing experience. Fortunately, I work at home. This week, only my family will see my hair. If I go out, I'll wear a hat. Then, my hair will look oddly dark with almost blonde sun-bleaching at the ends. Short-term, I'm okay with that. I was tempted to give this product two stars because the packaging was a delight to read, and the included gloves, cap, shampoo, and conditioner were wonderful extras. However, I'm so disappointed by the product itself, I have to give this one star, and share my experience with others, so they don't make a similar mistake. ... show more

Best box dye I've used yet! I switched from Clairol to this and wow!! There is no strong smell, my scalp didn't burn or itch, and I even did my eyebrows for 15 minutes without my eyes wanting to water. I have strawberry blonde hair and my last box color was 2.5 months ago. I needed a change and thought I'd go a bit darker. The Sardinia Red came out more plum red and darker than expected but my hair is light and soaked up the color so well! The whole kit is perfect. Good gloves, shower cap, shampoo/conditioner, skin barrier cream, and a cleansing cloth. I also got 2 boxes since I have long hair and used 1.75 of the 2 bottles. I’m male trying to cover some grey hairs. I think this is the 6th brand I’ve tried. The second time with a product that advertises no PPD in the ingredients. The first time (I forget the brand) had “no PPD” written on the box. Reminds me of Tommy Boy the movie. When asked why companies use guarantees, Tommy concludes: "Because they know all they sold ya was a guaranteed piece of sheet... Hey, if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, I will." Lol! I was swollen and itchy for a week. The Madison Reed actually works, no allergic reaction at all. It’s not the 5 minute rinse, this takes about 30 minutes but it’s worth it. It’s easy to use. No dripping mess, easy to get off my skin. It would be nice if they separated it into 2 sets. I used about a third or less of the product, the rest had to go in the trash. Overall, it’s a great product and more gentle on the hair and skin. ... show more

Color: 2NNA - Darkest Cool Black with Ash Under... Size: 1 Pack
Daaanng...Covers My Grays and STAYS! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I’ve spent hundreds of dollars trying different hair-color products, especially PPD-free options, and Madison Reed is the first one that has actually worked the way I expected it to. I’m a Black male, so I’m not sure how much my hair texture plays a role, but my experience with this product has been excellent. With other brands, my hair and grays would look perfect while the color was on, but as soon as I rinsed my hair, the grays would start showing again. Others might last a day or two at best. This one is completely different. The color actually took, covered my grays, and stayed after rinsing. That alone impressed me. Yes, it’s around $33, but I’ve spent close to $50 on other products 3x that didn’t perform anywhere near as well. For me, this was absolutely worth the money. I can’t speak for the people who gave it lower ratings, but based on my experience, Madison Reed delivered exactly what I was looking for. One tip if you only need a small amount at a time: don’t combine the entire developer and color at once. Measure out only the amounts you need in the correct ratio, using a separate non-metal container, and keep the unmixed portions sealed in their original containers for later. Once developer and color are mixed together, that mixture should be used right away and not stored. 5 stars from me. Finally found one that works! ... show more
