  • Wow, I am impressed!
Needing a 4 quart saucepan to make larger batches of caramels, I decided to splurge on what I thought would be an upscale product. Having purchased many cookware and kitchen utensils over the decades, I knew which properties I wanted and this Made In suacepan exceeded my expectations. It has great weight and holds heat wonderfully, which I call thermal mass, so that the caramel doesn't cool too quickly as I'm pouring into molds. It is, by a substantial measure, the finest saucepan in my arsenal and when it's time to replace any of my pots and pans, I'm not going to bat an eyelash over splurging on Made In products. Oh yeah, it's beautiful, in addition to all it's other features! Kudos to the people who are spec'ing and sourcing this line. ... show more

  • Love it!
I love this pan. It is super easy to clean, nothing sticks. My only minor ding is that the handle seems too long and clunky. I can live with that since I love the pan otherwise.

  • Hard to argue with - solid functional saucepan. Cosmetic issue...
I'm an All-Clad guy. I have about 16 different All-Clad pans currently in my kitchen of all different sizes. Three ply, 5 ply, a couple of 7 ply, some copper core, a few non-stick, etc. Most of them are well-used and well-loved. I have both 2 and 3 quart copper-core saucepans that see very regular use at least a few times a week, especially the 3 quart. For years, I've wanted to fill the void between the 3 quart saucepan and the 5.5 quart Dutch oven, and multiple times I've considered buying a 4 quart saucepan or their 4 quart soup pot, but in my house, where we seldom cook for more than 2 people, it's just been very rare to need that in-between size. While it would make more sense to have the All-Clad pan since it is just a taller version of the 3 quart and uses the same lid, I decided to give this Made In pan a try and so far I'm mostly pleased. First of all, the Made In pan seems quite a bit lighter than typical All-Clad. I'm kind of partial to the All-Clad's weight and "heavy duty" feel, but sometimes it's just a little tedious, especially as I get older and have more joint troubles! I haven't broken out a scale, but I'm fairly certain that this 4 quart pan weighs less than my All-Clad copper core 3 quart. Secondly, I've never been a huge fan of the typical scalloped All-Clad handles present on most of their cookware. I know it's one of their trademarks and it looks cool and has some functionality, but sometimes I would simply prefer a plain rounded handle (AC's Thomas Keller series has these). The handle on this Made In pan is somewhere in between - it's rounded, but with a flat shape and an indention along the top side. An interesting compromise that feels good in the hand. I typically avoid nonstick cookware. Nonstick coatings have come a long way and can last a good long time, but a good pan without it can be used for a lifetime. I almost feel like, in a sauce pan, the only reason to have the nonstick would be simply for ease of cleaning and cosmetic value. It also eliminates the need to manufacture a pan with a perfectly polished interior. This may also be related to the grade of stainless steel used in these pans, which brings me to my only complaints. Stainless steel is often imperfect and there are many variations in alloys. There can also be inconsistencies within a given alloy - that's why that one piece of silverware in your drawer always gets a rust spot in the same place! To work with induction cooktops, clad stainless/aluminum cookware must have a magnetic or "ferritic" layer - That is the layer of 430 stainless used on the outside, since the inside layer is 304 stainless which has less iron and doesn't work with induction. Having more iron makes the outer layer slightly more prone to corrosion but still "stainless" steel. As I was looking my pan over closely to write this review, I noticed that under the lip of the pan around the outside edge, a few rust spots were visible (gasp!). I scrubbed a little to confirm that this was not just food matter imitating rust. They mostly polished away but were clearly coming from the metal itself. I may talk like I'm a stainless expert up to this point, but my Googling is going to end just short of learning why a formed (more heavily "worked" in manufacture) portion of the pan would be more prone to corrosion spots, but I'm going to guess that has something to do with why I see spots around the lip and (so far) nowhere else. Now, if this pan did NOT have a non-stick coating, rust should still never appear in the interior since 304 stainless contains a significant amount of nickel in place of some of the iron. Obviously, having a little surface rust on the outside of a pan is purely cosmetic and I don't foresee it being any real problem long term. All-Clad uses the same two types of stainless steel for their inner and outer layers, but I have never noticed rust spots on any of their pans. They may have a slightly different forming process that doesn't affect the metal the same, or they simply hold their raw materials to a higher standard. It's worth mentioning that, as of this writing, this Made-In pan undercuts the price of a comparable All-clad (without non-stick) by about 30% for entry-level D3 tri-ply and 44% for the All-Clad 5 ply D5 (the true equivalent). I still wouldn't consider this a "budget" pan, but it might be enough of a price difference to justify polishing off the occasional cosmetic rust spot (and I won't even get into the advantages of the less-pretty brushed stainless exterior). Your mileage may vary as far as the small surface rust spots, I've seen no other mention of them in reviews so maybe I just got one from a bad batch. I've seen no mention of a warranty from Made In, but I'm not too worried about the spots. Comparing this pan head-to-head with All-Clad isn't really fair considering the price difference, but I have to say this pan holds its own pretty well. I can't foresee possibly needing any more pieces of cookware in my kitchen, but if I find myself shopping for something, I would definitely see what Made In has to offer! ... show more

  • Horrible quality! Don’t waste your money!
Worst. Product. Ever. Bought two pots almost exactly two years ago my son cut his fingertips drying one because the coating is flaking around the rim. They both had the same deterioration and have not been placed in the dishwasher. I had been adding to pots I had from my wedding (another brand) for over 20 years. Customer service said they only stand by their products for one year but offered me a 20% off coupon to buy their product again. No thank you! ... show more

  • Avoid! Flaking non-stick coating
After losing my home to a wild fire, I was given a gift card for Made-In. It inspired me to add to it and make an extravagant splurge on a small set of their non-stick pans. It included a fry pan, saucier and sauce pan. I have had them a little over a year and have followed the care instructions meticulously. These were the most expensive cookware items I've ever bought. Yet the non-stick coating is scratched and worse yet flaking off the edges of the sauce pan. I only use silicone utensils, hand wash with mild soap and water, heat the pans slowly and store them carefully. If the flaking continues they will be useless. I advise getting the stainless pans or carbon steel and avoid the non-stick. I bought a Ballarini carbon steel frying pan on Amazon that is my go-to pan. It's ugly but after proper seasoning it is an unfailing non-stick, trouble free frying pan. It is half the cost of the Made-in version. ... show more
