This is my second splitter. The first one was passed on in great shape. Very easy to use on dry wood. That’s the key. It will split wetter less seasoned logs but it will take awhile and it may get stuck on the log. A couple of whacks with a hammer on the log will get it to release. Size: Log Splitter
Even better than I expected! I wanted to split rounds as I brought them into my woodshed. There isn't enough room to swing an axe and I would have to run an extension cord for an electric splitter, so I decided a slide hammer splitter would be best. I chose the Logosol smart splitter because it allows the use of 2 hands and a comfortable distance to slide the weight without hitting bottom - in short, this is good ergonomics. It takes more strokes and doesn't drive the wood apart like a splitting axe. However, each stroke is quick and easy and hits the same spot. You can do 3 strokes to 1 with an axe and it usually splits in less than 6 strokes. So far I've split a half cord of wood and it has split every one. However, it is probably a bit slower than an axe. I tried using a chain and bungee to catch the splits but found that a simple rack made from wood scraps to catch them was quicker. My only beef is that I need to bend or go one knee to lift the wedge on top of each piece of wood. Since I have a bad back I used stiff wire to put a handle on top of the kindling portion of the splitter to allow me to set the wedge on top of the round without bending. But this is relatively minor and shipping with Amazon International was inexpensive and quick! ... show more

    • Great option if you don't want to swing an axe or maul

OK, first off: If you CAN swing an axe or maul, that will work faster than this. But if you're like me and for whatever reason can't/don't want to go that route, this is a GREAT option. We had a bunch of trees taken down and are chopping them up for firewood. My husband does the first round with an axe, then I do the splitting with the Logosol, and we both have been very pleased with it so far. We wanted something that could handle fairly large logs, and this does the job. A few things to know: (1) You need a good-size, heavy log or stump to operate this splitter on. You can put it on/take it off said log/stump easily, but can't really work it without that. (2) If you've seen the videos where every piece splits with like two "drops" of the weight onto the blade, know that it can take a dozen or more drops to get through a large piece -- but it has eventually split every piece I've tried, some quite large. I especially like how I can position the blade exactly where I want it and can keep it safely out of the way while positioning the log. Also, some of the reviews I read before purchasing noted a plastic part that eventually broke, and the company must've taken that into consideration because ours came with a spare of that part, although the original one has so far held up.     • Excellent splilter, safe to use, BUY IT!!!

I'm a 58 year old man, I'm not an expert on splitting wood, but this baby is both safe and easy to use. What I like is the safety of this tool. It holds your wood upright, it makes it safe to split. I've split pieces 16" dia. (maybe bigger) with minimal problem. Minimal meaning it took several "thrusts" from the hammer part of this Smart Splitter to get it split. I've begun to combine the Smart Splitter along with a wedge and a small sledge to get my bigger pieces split. But... it is VERY SAFE to split wood this way!! I would add, wear long pants. I've had some split pieces fall and scrape my leg, no biggie, but learn from my experience. This splitter gives excellent control, allowing me to split pieces to very small parts for my fire-pit. I can keep splitting until it's down to the size I want, and all the time... it's SAFE!! I still have ALL MY FINGERS!!! My nylon washer, the part between the hammer and the main splitter, was beginning to crack. So, I emailed Bailey's (who I bought from) and they sent me a replacement nylon washer (no charge), along with the 2 steel washer and rubber spacer that goes on your main log. (look at instructions for more detail) Excellent support! I highly recommend this tool, especially if you are worried about the safety of using a wedge and sledge. This WILL NOT deflect off any angles... it can not deflect from the wood you are splitting!! SAFE!! SAFE!! SAFE!!! Did I mention it's safe? Also, it gives me a good workout. Yes, this does require effort, but the entire time it is safe. So, I get wood split to the size I want, I get a good workout, and I still have all my fingers to type this opinion!! I hope you feel as good as I do about this splitter. I enjoy it so much I've even split "extra" wood for my neighbors fire-pit. He was surprised to see a stack of split wood by his fire-pit. If I forgot to mention it, I think this is a safe tool to use... Buy it, split wood, be safe and... BURN, BABY BURN!!! If you have questions, feel free to ask me. I'll be happy to reply. But be patient... I might be out splitting more wood. Now, there was a BIG branch down a couple blocks away... FREE FIREWOOD!!! ... show more

    • Great option if you are not comfortable with a splitting wedge and maul

I have been successfully using it on pine. It is slower than a wedge/maul, but for those of us not strong enough or coordinated enough to use the maul safely it works. You have to be strategic about where to place it or you will get it stuck. But it does work on the pine as long as I work around the knots. ... show more
