  • It Is Lodge Cast Iron!
Have had a Lodge 13" cast iron pan for several years. The pan has provided excellent service and is used frequently. IMHO the best pan to cook a steak. One of the mistakes made with the care of a cast iron pan is placing it in the dishwasher. Maintenance requires a few extra steps. However the reward is the food. The downside to this order was the packaging. Two cast iron pans were ordered w/o any packing material! This caused the pans to be moving inside the box and in contact with each other. This had to be by far the worst packaging we have ever received from Amazon, and we have received several items. This is the reason for the low score. Lodge makes the best cast iron pans. If it is not a Lodge I question the authenticity of cast iron. ... show more

  • Buyer Beware
This cast iron by Lodge is not like other Lodge skillets. Im not sure what I bought was a real Lodge pan. I used for the first time tonight— began to rust right after washing... So disappointing will not by Lodge online again..

  • Cast Iron by Lodge, you can't go wrong!
We own a number of Lodge products and like this pan, they are all great. Once you season a well-made cast iron pan, you will have a great non-stick surface. This pan is truly versatile since we can use it on the cooktop, oven, and grill/smoker. In fact, you can start on the cooktop and transfer directly to the oven. You can't do this with most pans. Yes, fewer dishes to clean! ... show more

  • Love this skillet! Ordered the next size bigger!
Just received my 10.25 inch Lodge duel handle skillet! It is in perfect condition and I was so surprised to see that it came with two silicone handle covers! I love this skillet! Have been using Lodge skillets for many, many years (actually about 50 years) and they have never let me down. I am so impressed with this skillet that I just got on Amazon and ordered the12 inch model! These dual handle skillets are going to be especially good since I have some arthritis in my hands now. Of course their helper handles have been very helpful for years now. Lodge skillets are great!!! ... show more

  • Not as smooth as old cast iron I own
I have a lot of old cast iron including pots. All the old cast iron I have are smooth on the bottom inside, this one is not. I don't know if this is because they don't put a finish on them or whether they expect a build up to smooth the roughness. I like the overall pan, however, and will work on the surface myself. Used the pan for the first time and it is not non-stick even with plenty of oil. Sugars from sausages stick to the cooking surface. Lodge aparently don't do anything to finish the cooking surface. I will work on it scrubbing with wadded up aluminum foil after each use and it will smooth out with time. The Lodge dutch oven I bought is the same way, like an "orange peel" surface. They don't waste a lot of labor finishing these pans. ... show more

  • Received wrong item, but it made a nice gift
I ordered the 10-1/4" skillet, but I received the 12". This wouldn't be a problem, but I wanted it for the oven in my RV, and the 12" is just a little larger than I would like. I had planned on returning it for replacement, but saw that it was out of stock, so I debated whether I should keep it, or not. A friend mentioned wanting one for Christmas, so my decision was made for me. As to the skillet, it's a Lodge. The castings are a bit rough, if you're used to vintage cast iron, but they are very durable, and retain heat very well. Their pre-seasoning is serviceable, and you can use it as a good base to continue to season it to your liking. The handles are large enough to hold, even with oven mitts, and the sides are tall enough to hold food in while stirring, as well as make a good amount of cornbread, or a nice roast or stew. All in all, it is a solid piece, I just wish that I would've received the correct one. ... show more

  • Great pan even if it had some rust on arrival
At the end of seasoning I am changing my review from 3 stars to 5 stars. The pan itself, like all Lodge pans, is excellent. I've been reading Lodge product reviews for the better part of an hour and find a lot more like mine - some rust or chips in seasoning on arrival. Since there's no good way for Lodge to control storage, packaging, handling, or shipping, after they deliver it to a seller, there's just no way to blame Lodge. For me, I am just going to count on reseasoning any new cast iron on arrival. If I get lucky and one doesn't need it, that's great. But reseasoning is actually fun and rewarding anyway. And it has the advantage that it will trigger any cracks or flaws that some have experienced in the first few uses. ****** Original Review below: ******* I'm a fan of Lodge - even though they still won't provide a polished interior product, opening the door for a lot of new competitors who server the high-end cast-iron market. But this pan only gets 3 stars, almost got 2. There were rust spots all over the pan; it looked as though it had been out in the rain or a roof leak in a warehouse or something. I had to do a restoration process - remove the old seasoning, sand to remove all rust, and apply seasoning. That represents about an hour's touching time over an all-day start-to-finish time. I should have returned I would likely get another like it from Amazon. Of course, once restored and seasoned, it's a pretty good pan - but, as I mentioned, Lodge still won't consider offering a high-end line with polished or smoother interiors. I email them from time to time and always get polite answers that they have no intention in serving the market. That saddens me because I want Lodge to be as successful as they can be so that they're around, making quality cast iron in a Lodge-family-owned business, in the USA, for another hundred years. Failing to follow the market as high-end cooking spreads like wildfire in the US, is a bad choice on their part. ... show more

  • Great cast iron skillet!
I bought this one because the other 2 I have are larger. I really like this one because of size and cooks evenly. I like the 2 side handles for easier lifting. Overall keeping it oiled is the key to easy cooking, cleaning and long-term use. I would recommend this 10.5 size cast iron skillet for smaller meals. The price for 2 same type handles was a few dollars more than the one long handle but its worth it. ... show more
