In my opinion, this might just be the ultimate cooking vessel! It truly is a “jack of all trades”, yet it excels in so many! What isn’t this great for? It can handle searing heat, or low and slow, it can easily be transferred from the stove to the oven, and back again. It’s a great heat conductor with fantastic heat distribution so it can bake breads, deep fry, or keep a dish warm for serving. With a little aluminum foil and a small wire rack, you can even turn turn it into quite an effective makeshift mini-smoker! I use the 5.5QT version, which is a nice medium-to-large “all around” size that can comfortably serve 6 people. It’s wide enough to easily use a spatula for flipping (it even sears a nice burger!), yet it’s also tall enough to go all out on nice chunky stew or bake an artisanal loaf of bread. The enamel coating is also an overall upgrade over traditional cast iron. It cleans up reasonably easily, and it won’t react to highly acidic foods such as tomato sauces. While it’s not exactly a non-stick surface, this is actually an advantage because it’s great for creating that perfect fond. On top of it all, it’s beautiful to look at. My Le Creuset Dutch oven sits on my stove as a permanent fixture because I use it for just about everything - from searing steaks to you-name-it! ... show more

I have always wanted a Le Creuset Dutch oven and I’m so pleased with it! I’ve already made a delicious pot of soup. It cooks evenly, cleans easily and looks beautiful on my stove. I actually ordered this originally on the Le Creuset website but unfortunately, that piece came delivered with a cracked handle. I decided to order from Amazon. We had ordered a different brand of large Dutch oven, but ended up returning it because the lid did not fit well. It was cheaper, but that didn’t make it better. This is what we replaced the first one with, and we are so pleased with this one. This is of the highest quality. It’s amazing at how easy it is to clean. We cook so many things in it.
